Yay for being off your bp meds! It's great you advocated for your health and figured out what was causing it. It's kinda crazy you were on meds for so long being as healthy as you are without it being looked into further. Glad you are feeling better!

Wow where have I been? Sounds like a huge surgery! So glad you are recovering nicely! You look great! It's nice to document the whole thing. I did this with my tonsillectomy and it has helped hundreds of people. I still get comments with people saying how thankful they are that I recorded the journey and gave them things to look forward to. So this is great. Sorry you had to have surgery! XO

Oh :/ im sry to hear.. 2 months ago i had an ultrasound for something else just a check up, and surprisingly he found a 1.9cm hemangioma in my spleen. Size of spleen is normal and no symptoms at all never knew i had one.. The doc also said he has a 3cm one on his liver though.. He told me not to worry ( although i am ) and come back for a check up in 6 months..
Also after that went to a gi professor and also advised not to wry and go for a check up after a year! Hope it wont grow and stay the same :/ how are you doing without a spleen?

I may have to have my spleen removed soon because of a 8cm mass on it. It's also very swollen. Meeting with surgeon in another week to see what will happen. They think it was a non traumatic splenic rupture that stopped bleeding. Anyway they are taking the conservative approach right now (spent 3 days in hospital) now on 45 day watch and wait to see if it goes down or if I need surgery. So scary! He said he can only do it partial laproscopic and he would have to use his hand to remove it because of its size. I hate the idea of having surgery I don't do well in hospitals.

I had my spleen out in 1995 and if anyone gets unwell around me I get it. I seem to be trying to get rid of infections all of the time.

    Thanks for your video...
I had an open Splenectomy due to a severely enlarged spleen. I'm currently waiting for the pathology report to see if it is some type of lymphoma that was causing that inflammation.
I completely understand about the feeling you have of your organs moving around. my spleen was literally the size of a football when it's only supposed to be the size of your fist so I have a lot of extra room in my abdominal cavity and every time I try to lay down and roll over to either side I literally can feel everything adjusting... All kinds of sounds and feelings that are quite freaky. I can't wait until I'm a few more weeks into the recovery because this is much worse than I thought I would be.

Bobby Reilly hang in there! Your recovery is likely much worse than mine, as mine was laparoscopic. It’s been almost 6 years. My first year was the worst. I was sick A LOT

Its too late to ask but i am currently recovering from splenectomy and mine spleen was also the size of football. Though i want to question that your left chest hurts a little during recovering and you feel air in the area and urge to fart. I hope u will help me with your experience

Thanks for the vids. I will probably be having my spleen out due to a large cyst, and have a hernia repaired also at the same time. I have some of the other problems you had like high blood pressure, probably due to the cyst and what I eat. If there is any kind of prep that I should do, now that you had yours, I'd be interested in that also.

I just was NOT prepared for how uncomfortable (or in pain) I would be post surgery! I have two kids, so having help at home for childcare, cooking, and cleaning was a must for me. I had a horrible time being able to eat again. It tooks over 2 weeks to be able to eat normal solid foods again. It woudl hurt my stomach so badly to eat something like a salad. I had soup, applesauce, and yogurt on hand. I tried to take the narcotic pain medicine at night and just take IB profren during the day, the narcotics in combination with not eating regulary, hurt my stomach more. Two weeks before surgery I got 3 vaccines, HIB, Meningoccal, and Pneumococcai. Your care provider can adise you on what you might need. Since making this video I have gotten strep throat, which is a somewhat dangerous one for asplenics, so I had to go get a throat culture and get on antibiotic quickly, and it as rough, more rough then I remember strep being before being asplenic, but I'm ok. I also take a lot of supplements to support immunity now, lysine, vitamin D, zinc, fish oil, magnesium and a multivitamin, again your doc can make recommendations for your particular case. My bps dropped very low one week after surgery and I had to go off my bp meds, and eventually had to go back on one of them. Good luck!

I will be considering all of this. I also read that toxicplasmosis (sp) from cats litter can also cause some spleen damage. I didn't know I had the cyst till I had a CAT-Scan for the hernia. This cyst is large and is compressing some organs like the spleen of which it is growing out of. It is fused to the spleen and it is squashing the spleen and I guess it's somewhat damaged and it would be difficult to just remove the cyst (Perhaps they cant do physically that much laproscopically, in a circular path where it connects). Some compression on my stomach which causes heart-burn. I may have been living with this cyst for many, many years. I think the cyst caused the hernia to get worse due to all the internal pressure since water is not compressible. When I cough from the flu(s) it made things like the hernia worse, and I have to try to hold a pillow on my stomach area when i cough. There will be "space" left over in me also. I think they will drain the cyst first through the hernia area, and then try to remove the cyst and spleen through that area also and then fix the hernia then, otherwise I will need two different operations and not one operation. I have been reviewing similar spleen problems/operations. Next week I will be told about the drugs and stuff to get, and I'm hoping things get moving along faster. The hospital is about 100+ miles in NYC. Thanks for the help.

Jlk6532 I had my operation April 23, 2014, in NYC. I had my spleen, large cyst removed, and hernia repair. They took the spleen and cyst, after draining, out through the hernia in my stomach area. Was on the (weak) morphine drip every 8 to 10 min, that I could turn on, and then I was given about 30 Oxycotone, 5mg type, to take home. I have to to back to NYC to get the stiches out. Thanks for you help in this area.

My spleen will be removed the next month due to chronic ITP(immuno thrombocytopenia purpura) my platelet count has been low since 3 years, so the doctors suggested to go for splenectomy... I’m just getting really scared now... can u or anyone say how the health differs from before and after the splenectomy
