For the people that are questioning his accent in this video...it's real. Being from another country myself and growing up in America, when I'm in my native country or around my native people, my other accent naturally comes out more. He's not faking anything...it's completely natural. It's the same basic thing as speaking in 2 different languages, there are 2 different accents. I don't understand why this is a difficult concept to grasp.
CurlyLocks that's not it I just saw a interview with him for Hot 97 and he does sound differently. I get that if he is speaks different languages then he will sound different. But he is speaking English in both interviews . He don't sound like this in the other video. He is just adapted to his environment. That's all.
people questioning his accent must not be use to being around or being raised in multiple cultures or places. Accents can come and go based on where you are and who you are with, it's a subconscious thing. I'm a New Yorker with West Indian roots. When I'm away from New York my accent is not as strong and has a slight southern twang, because a lot of my friends in college are from the south. When I'm in New York or talking to a New Yorker my original accent comes out. If I am with my West Indian family or speaking get with other West Indians I have a slight accent. It happens and isn't inauthentic. I see it as my brain adjusting to my environment and the culture I'm interacting with at the time.
i thought I was the only one this happens to. in nigeria among nigerians a thicker naija accent comes out. in america i will adjust for better communication. i hate how nigerians think everythink is faking. when youve lived and schooled in different places, there is no how you won't have a mix of all those accents. i like that his naija accent came out sef. if he had been speaking akata, naija people will still say he's forming so abeg
Donaldson Izekor No, you're the one with a little mind. And you're stupid and ignorant generalizing like that because I am, like Jidenna a first generation American. I am from Los Angeles, but I currently live in The Bronx. So try again, dumbass!
Donaldson Izekor Are YOU American? And what makes you think you can determine whether someone is American from a few sentences? Get a life. And do some research so you don't end up looking stupid again.😕
I need the accent disputes to stop. I have a Liberian American friend who sounds more American than me when we're in public, but the SECOND she crosses the threshold of her parent's home its like she was from Liberia herself. I even develop an accent when I'm around her family for more than 4 hours...please chill. Mad y'all don't even have an accent to fake if you wanted to...smh just let him be great.
Certain things are not news worthy bro, I once saw a post showing ushers dick and everybody laughing cause his dick is darker than his body, and I'm like WTF a black man has a black dick, whats so funny. Daniel Ngongang
Tamara S. African Americans have no choice but to be confident, given what we've been through we qualify as one of the most if not THE most confident people on the planet.
African American is the one her or his parents are Africans if both your parents were born in America and u were also born in America u ain't a African
Kudos to the interviewer. He asked great relevant questions. It's always good to see a good interview on youtube which unfortunately is full of amateurish and borderline star-struck interviewers who always forget their jobs.
Jidenna and siblings brought his father's body back to Igboland Nigeria and gave him a befitting cultural funeral. I respect my young brother 💯 God bless you, nwannem ❤️
My roommate back in college is Igbo. She was/is brilliant. I did well in school, but SHE had straight A's in chemistry. She was such a nice girl, too. And she was rich as Croesus and would jet to Paris and London to shop. Her father was in contracting and oil. And she was so beautiful she was voted the most beautiful international student at the University of Houston. The First runner-up was Miss Sweden. And the 2nd runner-up was Miss Japan. My roommate's brother was/is a doctor and her fiance (now husband) is a surgeon.
I love how when you're around your people your accent comes out! My husband's Haitian, born and raised in Brooklyn. he doesn't have a Haitian accent unless he's speaking with his family. I'm southern raised, so as soon as I get around my family it just comes right back with no effort. I have to translate for my husband, lol!!

I relate to this. Im a Nigerian thats been a citizen of England for 13 years now. When im with my people or with family, my Nigerian accent naturally comes out. But out in public, i have a british accent
I love how his accent changes, its beautiful when he taps into his Nigerian accent. My accent changes all the time, some people say I have a British accent and some say I have a mixture with Tanzanian. All I know is, when I am with my family, the accent I was born into is stronger coz I go into Swahili. I love both accents but if I was to pick one, I would pick my Tanzanian half, I just love it. Always be proud of your origin.
When you have grown up in different countries, it's normal to have a mixed accent and it's usually not something you think about at the time. It just changes depending on where you are or who you're around. For those ignorant people who think his accent is fake, actually travel somewhere and stop commenting on things you don't have the capacity to understand.

Ebony Travel how is it being fake?? Its adapting to your surroundings. I’m from The Bahamas and speak bahamian creole english. I HAVE to code switch most of the times just so people can understand what I’m saying. Other times, I be talking to people and my dialect comes out without even realizing it. When I’m around people who have similar cultures like other hispanics or west indians, my creole comes out even more. Thats not being fake at all.
Ebony Travel Nope. This is everyday life for multilingual people as well as people who have experienced more than one culture. My spoken English may not be connected to a specific area(except maybe Australia a little bit), but my Swedish and Finnish definitely change depending on where I am and who I'm talking to. It's not something you're conscious of. It just happens.
Jay Pratt I agree. I'm fully Nigerian but I school in Europe. I came speaking with my regular accent but I'd often been told to repeat myself so now I have to make sure U enunciate properly when I talk to non Nigerians

Bi/Multilingual people understand his change of accent. It happens to me too. And you are unaware until someone brings it up. it's normal.
Mmala Mokone yep. Code-switching, happens naturally

His accent coming out and everything! Geesh! 😍😍😍
Donaldson Izekor everyone has an accent. Every damn body.
Donaldson Izekor you can have an accent if you speak your language regularly with parents, friends, in your community, etc.
Donaldson Izekor you don't make sense. I am American. With an American accent. I am using this example so you can get it.
Donaldson Izekor No, you're the one with a little mind. And you're stupid and ignorant generalizing like that because I am, like Jidenna a first generation American. I am from Los Angeles, but I currently live in The Bronx. So try again, dumbass!

I'm so proud of this guy and I love that he's always wearing African clothes.
I love how he showed the similarities between Africans & African Americans, it shows that we’re more alike than different which is beautiful❤️
There aren't many similarities and we are more different than alike.

I adore his humility. He respects his clan and root deeply and that is charitably stunning.

Great questions, yeah. I noticed that. But then, his body language and mannerisms whenever Jidenna was responding seemed weird and tacky.
He was trying to be humble as much as he could as he was speaking. It is normal here.
Dialect adaptation (&adaptation of any sort) is an amazing skill to have. These are traits of brilliance, applaudise young man 👏 👏 👏 👏
very cool, he's very proud of his roots.
Jidenna and siblings brought his father's body back to Igboland Nigeria and gave him a befitting cultural funeral. I respect my young brother 💯 God bless you, nwannem ❤️
