I would roll just to see BBR using Laser2 to dice a bunch of celery. On the other hand it would hurt my heart a bit to see such beautiful tool not being used for exactly what it's built for. Alas I'm also the type that wants to throttle folks for using the back of an adjustable wrench head as a hammer.
Hi Buckin. Watching from Northern Ireland. Perhaps if you remove some wood from the very back of the handle, that would allow the handle to move back in the eye, therefore closing the gaping at the back and reducing the amount of wood you need to remove from the front / thin part. I hope I haven't overstepped. Love your videos and all the flashey editing.
I will never forget my grandfather putting a handle in an axe. I was about 10, so it was about 1955. We needed the axe so we could cut a couple of fallen trees on our farm farm road to the fishing pond. All he did was take his Barlow out of his pocket and started to cut down the end of the handle. He would make a few cuts, put the head on, pound it on a nearby stump and start over. I don’t think it took him but about 15 minutes to get the head on the handle. He did not have any fancy wedges for the handle. He just pounded a couple of roofing nails in the end of the handle and away we went with our fishing poles on our shoulders
Buckin your level of excitement after getting the wedge in is absolutely amazing. I definitely enjoy being part of the buckin army, thank you for the awesome content and words of kindness
Buckin, thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge and experience with all of us. There's a guy that builds hot rods and Ford Flathead engines down here in Northern California. His name is Vern Tardel. He is a Bonneville Salt Flats world record holder for Blown Flatheads. 2004-2006. He is the SME (subject matter expert) on Traditional style hot rods and Flathead engines, like you are with axes and felling timber. He knows his stuff, a guru like you, if you will. He says the exact same thing that you are conveying in this video. He actually writes books with pictures on how to split wishbones and port out Flathead engines to make them run optimum. He shows all his tricks of the trade. And he says the same thing you do. "I don't want to hide my knowledge, I want to share and teach those who are interested in this craft, to make a better product and teach the next generation. To carry on a time honored tradition of working with your hands." Beautiful axe and a great tutorial on how to hang an axe. Thank you so much for this gift.
I feel in love with axes as a teenager, but then life pulled me in a different direction... you've helped me rekindle that love Billy. Thank you brother. Love ya!
I watch these videos cause I like axes and wood chopping but I keep coming back cause Buckin has a very infectious and positive personality. It’s good to see more of this in times like these. Keep up the good work buddy I’ll be watching!!
I’ve used axes my whole life and love them and have replaced handles many times but I watch this video and can say I’m a hack. Love the way you work them and your pride in them!
Thank you Buckin for the kind words not just this time but any other time you are a great human being and I always enjoy watching your videos your awesome and I hope you continue to BE KIND always
Buckin Billy-Ray don't advertise & sell Ax's...he sells himself. We buy into him, his message, his craft and therefore when deciding where to get a new axe, it's not a decision, it's what we know, we trust. Keeping secrets doesn't allow you to show YOU, your craftsmanship, your well tuned workshop etc. I agree 100% with BBR on this.
Thank you for all that you do and putting a smile to my face on every video. Not just sometimes but everytime. Ill be hanging a new(to me) craftsman head when handles come in and Im pumped to hang my first axe thanks to you.
Thank you Buckin Billy. Your here in a time and a place where your message is heard and most important. Greatly needed. Your that awesome Bucking Billy Ray
Killinger makes a pretty darn nice handle that’s for sure! I remember burning a handle when it was cold out and grabbing it...took a few seconds for my hand to tell my brain that it was holding a bit of heat😂 love to you and the family❤️
best subscription of 2020. and its not even close. I love you Buckin Billy Ray. I love the community that's gravitated toward you. Im putting a trip to Vancouver Island to chop down a dead Arbutus(or live! with your axes and my strength, it'd be light work.) giant with you, on my bucket list! you're the best!!
Thanks for sharin' Buckin! Beautiful ax, makes me want to do some hafting and creating. Got a new spokeshave I haven't used yet, maybe tomorrow! Love ya brother and love all who come together here, as well as those who don't. 🙂 Be kind everyone, enjoy your day.
216k holy shaklankinsmackwackin congratulations Buckin. Thank you for your time my friend. And thank to everyone who has taken the time to watch this video. Love it brother. Hahahahaha yeah. 🌲❤🌲✊
I love the flail chop. No wood is safe withing your reach. Just sand in one spot and start swinging! I have to admit (I always admit my flaws) that your take on why guys hesitate to do things, is fear 100%. I only do not do things out of fear. I don't hang that axe b/c I don't want to waste the handle I looked so hard to find. I don't sharpen that knife I like so much b/c I don't want to make the edge worse or ruin the shine. I don't take my truck into the bush b/c I don't want to ruin the paint job. You get the idea. That being said, I wanted to share a couple ideas I have on hanging axes; I always file the eye on both ends b/c I believe the eye should be an hourglass shape, I always glue the wedge, and I don't use steel wedges unless I'm trying to salvage a loose head temporarily.
Buck'in you crazy buggar !!! just loving the energy ... as always. After a long day of doing, whatever you do, nothing like turning on a little buckin magic
Buckin' hello, love you and your videos brother. I am not a pro like you but my rookie tip would be to take a pencil and rub the lead on the inside of the eye, then when you put it on the handle the lead will rub off where you need to take off more wood. This is just a more visible way to see what is going on, for me.
Man bub you’ve got yourself a little piece of my heaven with all them axes hangin!!! Looks great!! Great vid BUCKIN , and I also very very very appreciate the shout out on Sunday LIVE!!! Made my day really did sir! I kept replaying it like a little kid😜😜!! Hehehe....YOUR THE MAN!!!!
I just love watching your content, it's something about a man who is so enthusiastic about his work that is just great to see. You are an extra inspiration for me as an 18 year to keep doing the things I love instead of the things that are expected of me.
Hey Buckin, Thank you for the kindness that you put into the world and you led me to become an axe man and join the Marines. I was hoping to send you an axe that I made before I go to basic but I got moved forward on my ship day. Thank you for all that you do and I will send you one of my axes when I'm done with basic.
I've never owned or used a draw knife or spokeshafe on an axe, in fact I dont think I've ever operated either. I always used the blade from my block plane, using it as a scraper to remove wood. Matter of fact I need to rekindle my axe soon so thanks for the advice Buckin, and little buckin keep on keeping your old man smilein
Thanks for sharing your craft and not being secretive! They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but you're far more entertaining to watch than a knockoff anyway.
I am imagining somewhere out back he has a Pet Cemetary type graveyard for all his shirt sleeves... Thanks for starting my morning off with a smile. Your enthusiasm is contagious!
Hey buckin and buckin army. I would like to say Thank u buckin for the inspiration u r . thanks to you I hafted my first axe today thank you so much bud and keep up the great work. Thanks again and be kind

Buckin and a fresh cup of coffee in the morning. Always gets me looking for something to do in the woods. Got me all excited when I realized I got four new trees that need dropped and bucked. Videos done being watched, the coffee cups empty so time to cut and buck. Take care Buckin Army and welcome to new subscribers. Keep up the kindness and let love win.
You are such a showman that people are likely watching who don't even own an axe. And I thought that my having 2 mauls, 5 axes, and 3 tomahawks that I had too many. Looks like I will have to go and look for a few more else you would think of me as a piker. I also use an old spokeshave for all of my trimming down (sometimes a lot) and also find that not only the entry may have a burr on the axe, but there will be little spikes sticking out inside the axe hole that need filing down. The heads are all different so each needs to be assessed and treated depending on what you find.
Many thanks for allowing us into your life. Your enthusiasm is so infectious sets me up for the rest of the day. Lots of love and light to you and your community. Stay healthy

Thanks for another fantastic video!!
There's a squirell in the window at 30:10 ish if anyone was wondering!
You will find one just like it standing by my back door. It is a 4# True Temper I bought about 1970 from Smith Hardware in Decatur, GA. It has lots of battle scars on it a new 31.5” hickory handle I put in it about five years ago and a leather sheath I also made for it. I do not hang a axe with a proud handle but they are solidly hung and are sharp. All of my True Temper axes also are repainted with their original red color and paint scheme.
Hey Buckin'! Thanks for the content in these times. Your kindness is contagious! Question: Who makes these axe handles you use? Could you publish a list of good hickory axe handle producers? Thanks for all the kindness!
My flint edge is set up the same way skinny handle I have the thinner profile it works well it’s my go to chops wood and iv cleared smaller downed trees on the trail
