Another Round of Intense Florida Lightning Storms (8/9/2018)

Very close lightning strike @ 1:16!
Late afternoon on Thursday, August 9, 2018, the Florida East Coast sea breeze sat just west of Melbourne, waiting for an outflow boundary to collide with it. When it did, strong thunderstorms developed right over the Florida Institute of Technology, bringing close lightning strikes, heavy rain, and strong winds. I then followed the storm south on my way to Sebastian and stopped at a gas station to admire the rainbow accompanied by vivid lightning over the lagoon. At home, the thunderstorm lasted well into the evening with huge "anvil crawlers" and "spider lightning" engulfing the sky. (Note: The first one shown hits the ground behind the camera, a classic example of a powerful positive CG under the anvil.)
