you do realize it's only sequence breaking to the player if they're aware of what the sequences is in the first place... kinda hard to know the sequence on your first playthrough brother
@@beyaown is it really that hard to figure you are probably not required to do some extremely precise bomb jump or whatever also i'm specifically talking about him LEAVING areas early here which is like. even more "why would you think you're required to leave right now"
@@wannabecinnabon You're talking about someone who has presumably played other Metroid romhacks. Not all romhacks have a straight forward progression/sequence and DO require IBJ CWJ etc. Plus it's an exploration game, he explored albeit apparently not how YOU would have.
it's what I love about RomHack authors, they're highly knowledgeable of the game theyre using and it's mechanics, they have to be in order to make a rom hack after all but this inevitably leads to some cheeky blockades, that even speedrun tech cant let you break just yet, it's so funny
Blasphemous is really good, but it's definitely an outlier compared to other metroidvanias. It feels more like a 2D Dark Souls/Salt and Sanctuary type game.
Would you consider Metroid to be a horror series? Castlevania games are horror _themed_ but most of the time it feels like a stylised gothic anime game with shonen special attacks, Metroid games look like alien shooting games but the quiet volume of the OST + emphasis on the silence and only hearing Samus's movements feels scarier to traverse than it does Dracula's Castle
Well Fusion definitely is (and one of the reasons it's my personal favorite). There are definitely horror vibes in games like Metroid 2, Super, and Dread as well.
Haha portrait of ruin defined down to a T, it legit even has its own anime opening. But I think that's kind of the point, in castlevania you are playing someone who is used to demons and vampires, so I really don't think it is horror from the Belmont perspective. Samus on the other hand is facing the unknown of space, sure she is experienced, but there is no rulebook on how to deal with every alien like the belmonts who have encyclopedic knowledge of every eldritch horror and slightly supernatural being that decides to grace their presence
uhm, no. lol. its literally the same exact deal with the themes of horror being present but not being the foreground of gameplay. it can be boiled down to a "space castlevania" in a lot of ways, including how its mainly action and sci-fi oriented with horror elements sprinkled throughout. also the Zero Mission OST is one of the most enjoyable GBA OSTs with how many groovy tracks there are that play while youre exploring, its not entirely ambience centered in its music. the only Metroid games you can really consider leaning towards horror are Fusion and the Metroid Prime games. in Fusion youre being stalked constantly by a doppelganger, and in the Prime games theres a constant, lingering sense of foreboding doom, especially in areas like the Phazon Mines and Dark Aether. thats kind of it, though. youre never inherently terrified, just uneasy while playing some Metroid games, however most are simply castlevania in space lol
The problem with Axiom Verge's combat is that it focuses far too broadly when only a few weapons are actually top tier. That, and you can't get certain weapons in certain runs, due to how the glitch spaces work.
This hack and super duper metroid are some of my favorite metroid games. Exploring and doing goofy sequence breaks just feels so good in these, mostly because i dont know the map, so finding cool stuff makes me feel awesome.
This hack is based on Metroid: Project ZM. The map design and features such as the quick item acquisition is from that one. It also has some Speed Booster QOL
You have no idea how much I've been waiting for this mod o release, it was so hyped up by the remaining Zero Mission community outside of speed runners and from your video I can see that it was worth the wait and hype. 😭
dude no need to apologize for taking time, I'm just as stubborn xD like once you're dedicated to a difficult task, it's in your very soul not to give up until you achive it; only deciding to give up at the expense of other's mental health not your own xD
And its just a better game. I greatly dislike that bit at the end where they take your powers? I dont know why so many people love that. Breaks the pace, turns the game into a stealth mission which up until that point was never the case, many cheap deaths and disappointing payoff. I swear, I was having fun until that point and after that it just soured my whole experience.
Metroid Fusion is one of my favourite games ever, but how does it have better mechanics than Zero Mission? If we're talking about movement, ZM has tighter controls (or a less floaty jump, at least), single-wall jumping and infinite bomb jumping, and I guess ballsparks exist if one cares about that, while Fusion nerfed movement tech to keep progression linear. Fusion does offer a more versatile jump intestad of ZM's fixed arc, though.
Yeah I'm gonna have to disagree, I don't know what exactly you mean by "better mechanics than Zero Mission" when ZM has infinite bomb jumps, ball spark, same wall jumping (on top of just generally better feeling movement). This is very much a hot take
I just went and tried out this hack for myself. Everything was phenomenal... until Serris appeared. That's where I just flat-out quit. I'd rather bang my head against a fucking concrete wall than to fight this boss w/o those hang points that Fusion gives you, both activities would hurt just the same either way. You just have to get good reads and suffer, that's all there is to it; any semblance of any sort of "simple trick" to the fight is purely cope. I'm not surprised you got it in two tries considering you're literally a speedrunner and whatnot, but I don't have the patience for that bullshit. The difficulty spike here is so fucking severe it makes Diggernaut look like a goddamn infant.
I did actually find a nice trick to it. I accidentally found a spot where Serris's AI will just keep doing the slow jump over you over and over again, allowing you to get free hits with no damage taken.
I don't know why, but i can't seem to turn off the turbo on the beam fire button or map up to the up arrow on my d pad of my xbox controller. Kinda annoying tbh.
I am new to metroid romhacks, is there a reason why there isn't any hack with different bosses from the OG games ? Are they locked in the code or something like that ?
In addition to parts of Norfair & Ridley, there's a section in Chozodia that also constitutes a "lava underwater section" but you're intended to encounter it just after you get the Fully Powered Suit, so that the lava has no effect on you.
I don't know why but I'm stuck in power grip room and whatever I do I can't get out. Sand suck me quicker then I can jump with normal high. For now I can't play the hack 😢
Yeah m fusion is better than zero mission. Zero mission is a great game and an amazing remake, but it is held back the fact that it’s a remake of Metroid 1.
Not really a hot take. Fusion has better mechanics overall, but I personally really hate the nerfed wall jump in Fusion. Fusion is designed around it so it's fine, but it's my biggest gripe with how Fusion feels.
@@davidgrimaldo2861 lmao what? you gotta do 5 wall jumps to reach the same kinda height in ZM as you could with just one in super lol, nevermind the fact that you can only walljump in ZM when you reach at a certain height with the wall...its just an objective fact that walljumping in super is a much more important and powerful mobility tool. playing super metroid gba edition and trying to do any of the walljump sequence breaks from super is the easiest way to demonstrate this, the walljump really is incredibly limited in ZM.

Because you’re able to end the game anytime by jumping in it. It’s called runaway ending.
