    JRPG's for LIFE
Nice Collab for the first one :). Keep up the good work, a nice list for all creators. Never played Fire Emblem (always wanted to) but on Nintendo, and not a Nin fan lol. Legend series, will be trying again later lol, Suikoden 2 is an awesome pick for a few creators (want to know watch the video peeps hehe) Story, Art, World, Emotion grabbing, hooks, and teaching of no black and white, but a grey area too. Gameplay. Top-notch game and the goat of most JRPG's. Also, the other picks were good too :).
They need to hurry up with the HD remakes
G2 needs a remake also. Let's be honest HAHA
    JRPG's for LIFE
Mine was Shining Force 2: Sega system. First time playing it the stack of characters, and gameplay. Story of darkness. knowing you can't save everyone. Learning lesson of faith in others and understand, hooked me in that game.

    - Xenogears: I bought the OST and listened to it to death before I got the game. Actually playing it was an intimate experience, combining everything I love about storytelling, with subject matter that was bold, complex, and ambitious. Xenogears did for me with gaming what Evangelion did for me with anime.
    - Shadow Hearts 2: SH1's ending left me sad and angry; SH2's ending emotionally devastated me, and left no room for a sequel. Not that it needed it. There were no loose ends. A perfectly crafted game.
    - Persona 4: Persona 2 might be my favorite of the series, but Persona 4 had this peculiar strength of character that made me painfully nostalgic for its' setting and cast. I really felt like there could be a sleepy town like Inaba nestled in the mountains with people like Kanji and Yukiko waiting for me.
    - Final Fantasy 7: This games' release was an event in a way that will be difficult for younger gamers to understand. It might not have aged as gracefully as people would like, but it offers too clever and inimitable of an experience to deserve anything less than full marks.
    - Chrono Trigger: No one can possibly add to its' legacy, and I won't even try. The heart and scope of this game is so grand that words are ineffective. A passion project headed by three of the most talented auteurs Japan has ever produced, it was the gaming equivalent of The Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Pink Floyd getting together for a dream album. If you don't understand by now, you likely never will.

For me it started while watching my cousin play a game on the PS1, where you could choose your party members and the action battles, with the amazing graphics and background art.
This was of course Star Ocean 2: The Second Story.
This game is a masterpiece and Matoi Sakuraba's Magnum Opus.
I still hold JRPGs to this game's standard, with so many of them found wanting.
    ........
But this isn't the end of this story.
There was another game that made me truly fall in love with the genre and the sheer potential it holds, and I have yet to play a single game of ANY genre that matches it.
    Suikoden 2
Found it at a used game shop and read on the back and saw on the back 'Over 108 Player Characters.' and young me was sold.
My love of JRPGs was cemented that day.
I still have yet to play a game that matches Suikoden 2.
    JRPGs FOR LIFE!

This is pretty easy for me. See, I'm a little older. My first JRPGs were Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy on the NES, plus the Final Fantasy Legend games on Gameboy, and Final Fantasy Adventure. I liked them all. It was Final Fantasy 2 (the US version, aka Final Fantasy 4 easy type) that really, REALLY kicked off my love of JRPGs. I hadn't even hit puberty yet, but the love story between Cecil and Rosa resonated with me. This is 1992 video game storytelling to an 11 year old, so yeah, it was only super romantic given the context. It was a SNES launch title, and I actually got the game as a birthday present BEFORE getting my SNES. My dad had said that if my siblings and I could save up $100 from allowances and/or odd jobs (whatever way kids aged 10 and below make money), he'd buy us the system and a game. We hit that mark just after my birthday, so we got the system, Super Mario World from my dad (he was smart and got the system with two controllers and Mario, rather than the barebones system with one controller), and FF2 for my birthday. It was MAGICAL. I'll never forget it.

When we talk about most impactful, the time period for a JRPG making the biggest impact typically would have to come sometime in the 90's (though, there are certainly some exceptions, Persona 5, looking at you) and when you think of JRPGs of that time period, it's very tough to not just say FF7.
But, I won't. I love love love FF7 as well as Suikoden 2. But the game that absolutely touched me the deepest has to be Xenogears. So it's 1998 and I'm just about to enter high school, so we're looking at very formative years. Xenogears drops and my god. It was so much more my speed than a lot of games at the time. From a young age I had been into mature themes (not like violence and sexy, but actual mature themes) such as psychology, diving deeper into human motivations and feelings. Xenogears explores the human experience better than any game before it, and many games since. The characters were not blanketly good or evil, they just were. They are complex creatures that can befriend you and betray you, all for equally complex reasons (simultaneous shoutout and F U to everybody's friend Hammer). Xenogears was thoughtful, Xenogears was sad it was everything that appealed to me at the time.
That's not to say anything of how incredible the combat was. I would never tire of Fei's martial arts, or Bart's whip animations. The game is pure perfection. I even forgive the incomplete disc 2, because it gives the game such a distinct feel and personality. I know as an adult it was a cost cutting measure due to a dwindling budget, but as a kid it made the end of the game very dreamlike and ethereal.

I personally will never get into the FE games (don't like strategy games), but I know that one of my fav content creators, Josh Scorcher, has said that if it wasn't for Awakening, he would have never met his wife (who's now a content creator too) and they now have twins (who are a year now), so yeah, I bet he would say this game impacted him in one of the best ways possible lol.
Omg, Grandia 2 was my first ever JRPG. I had just entered adulthood when the game came out (18), but I wouldn't know about the game until like 2002 when my brother got the Dreamcast and got this game. I only watched him play a few times (totally lost on the story of course lol), but it was enough to get me to try it. Still my 2nd fav game of all time. And yeah this game turned me into a better person. It taught me that there are 2 sides to everything. No all light is good and not all dark is evil. Plus it has one of my fav video game soundtracks. I did find out all of the music with singling, the lyrics are Portuguese, which sound lovely. Oh, I think Milenia is one of the most broken chars in JRPGs too, probably a good thing she didn't show up all of the times because at some point because of one of her special moves, she makes bosses a cakewalk lol. No shame in doing that. But yeah I love all of the playable chars. I love the English Voice cast.

Honestly my first rpg that didnt just strike me as boring was final fantasy 4(2 in usa on snes) my friend swore it was impossible he was literally underleveled at the last save point with minimal supplies left i borrowed it and finished it from that save without knowing i COULD leave and grind etc but managed to finish and seeing that challenge decided to get my own copy.
Years later fast forward to ps1 discovered the suikoden franchise i enjoyed 1 immensely once figuring out the basics then when i played 3 it blew my mind seeing how much they did with 1 story showing it from 5 different perspectives including the big bad guys at the end showing how at any given time you can see the "good" guys or the "bad" guys as the opposite just from a different point of view

I’ve played a lot of Japanese rpgs since childhood, from final fantasy , mana, fire emblem, grandia and etc. one of my favorite series that was my all time favorite and had a spiritual successor release was the Suikoden franchise, especially Suikoden 2. It had an incredible story story with a fantastic maniacal villain along with an incredible world that just kept evolving as franchise went on. It was really worth getting the best ending through the recruitment of all the stars

I honestly have no real impactful stories involving my games. Just that my first one that got me into the genre was Breath of Fire back on the SNES. Guess I've always been drawn toward the fantasy genre. And with a lack of D&D in my general community, JRPGs filled the void quite easily.
I am happy to see there's people still doing what they can to keep the JRPG line of games alive and kickin'. Great video!

JRPGSs for life! Suikoden 2 for me. I loved how grounded the story was. Some JRPGs that are too metaphysical and mystical kind of lose me, but I loved how Suikoden 2 is just a fun, simple story about universal human emotions and conflict.

Love the colabs. For me, Lunar TSS had the biggest impact. I know there's some famous villains mentioned, but The Magic Emperor takes the top spot for me. It's not just that what he does is a betrayal of everything he should stand for, but the personal impact and cost to the hero that makes this one stand out. No game since has done this as well, or driven me quite as hard to see the villain's demise. I know the remakes are far more popular and accessible, as improved as they are, they really change the role of the villain, and don't have anywhere near the same impact as the original on the Sega CD.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. It's the sequel to Path of Radiance, which had Nephenee, who's this really timid, shy girl who's implied to like women. Then comes along Heather, who's explicitly a lesbian and she ends up with Nephenee.
Heather was just everything I've always wanted in a girlfriend. In my eyes, she brought out the best in Nephenee. And I always wished I could have someone like Heather to my Nephenee.

Lufia 2 is the best. It deals with real world themes, relevant today. Finding love, marry, have kid, die with your spouse, love of siblings guy... brotherly love, guy derek. Atrea giving up eyesight.
The game had puzzles, tools, cool combat. Lots side games, and lets not forget endless replay with endless dungeon. It is a must play.
Funny thing about it, the game meant so much to one gamer he spent so far making lufia v for free out of his love for the ip. 1/2 of game is playable now.
