TIP: With the clay mitts they are strong so don’t use them as you would a normal wash mitt. Keep it light and gentle on the surface with minimal pressure and just let it do the work.
Careful when moving your hand across the paint. I like to use a credit card and gently move along the surface. No pressure, Yvan lacroix taught me this A good lubricant will go a long way
Nah a rubber or nitrile glove won't scratch it while it's wet and I'm pretty sure he probably already washed it so it's just the embedded contamination under the glove
I used a clay bar on my manfriend’s car today, he has NEVER had it done. It was brown afterwards. Like brown and black. But the paint surface? Silent and smooth. But he had somewhere to go before I got done with the polish and wax, and I’m like losing my mind about it right now because it DID take time! And I’m like…. No! Wherever you have to be is not more important that me reaching perfection right now! What about your clear coat?!?! And he’s like….. 🤷🏾♀️. I can’t.
The convenience is really nice if a car isn't that bad or if you don't have to get it perfect but if your trying to deliver best results then yea definitely actual clay is gonna be your best bet
I was able to get rid of what I think was overspray from the shop when I had my bumper and wheels touched up. At least the ones on the windshield and some windows. I used a clay towel with lube. The ones on the paint seem to not wanna go away. How long is too long when trying to remove these rough things?
Clay mitt is excellent for semi neglected vehicles. Typically cars in garages that don’t see a lot of sunlight , low mileage cars that just don’t get washed often. Clay mitts are perfect for those. For heavily neglected vehicles that sit in direct sunlight and never see a drop of water or soap. Clay bar is always going to do the better job at removing all the deeply rooted contamination that a clay mitt simply won’t get
@@Stifodnefacts. THEN you polish, then wax. OR, if I’m not mistaken, polish, sealant, then wax. Like putting shea butter and any other moisturizer on after exfoliating
I bought my first clay bar the other day, hot sunny weather is preventing me from my first attempt on my wife’s 6 year old car, the paints ok, it’s only ever been hand washed by me. My friend, who has a 1 year old car, that cars paint is like sandpaper as it’s parked under a large tree.

Great tip man , I've seen people knew to working on paint scratch up the entire vehicle because they thought they had to scrub it out

Should you rinse the clay mitt every so often in a bucket of water?
The clay towels and standard clay definitely work far superior to the mitts in my experience but it's nice because it's almost impossible to drop.

You always use the clay mitt or clay bar too? Also must you use a specific spray or just water from car shampoo?
what product did you use for the lubrication spray
You can use quick detailers or any clay lubricant spray
i usually use diluted car shampoo
@@poleskerumahsemarangive seen detailers foam down the car and use the foam as a lubricant would u recommend this method
@@weed6763 yes you can, second step after the contact wash, foam it again and clay it
Wish I had done this
Is using a clay bar the same as cutting and polishing a car?, Is it just a preference?
No, claying the car is usually the last step BEFORE you cut/polish or just polish the car. Claying removes embedded material in the clear coat.

Do you do this before or after the car wash
After.
Any advice on paint that is peeling from sun damage
New paint job. Your clear coat is basically gone. You cannot fix it. Going yo have to repaint and reapply clear coat

Make sure when working with claybar outdoors, to work panel by panel, you dont want any of that clay water to dry on the car
@@juannoficial Thanks for the tip, it’s much appreciated 👍
The clay is listed on that link
Cool, helpful
Good info
Clay is cool.... But I've done the work myself with out it just fine. Just have to invest in yourself and the right product. 😊
I tried clay today for the first time and feel like it was a waste of time lol. Id rather just cut n buff to be honest.
Forgot to mention that you might want to wash your car first then clay bar
