      This is how I study the Bible - with Pastor Paul. I started a Genesis to Revelation reading (my first) in August of 2019. I found Pastor Paul by the Grace of God by the time I got to 1 Samuel. I am now in Romans and PP (and the Holy Spirit) has taught me all along the way! I am extremely thankful because I would never attain this level of understanding on my own. Thanks be to God!!!

      Yes agree.
      Part of the issue is using only topic based teaching in churches opens up the risk of the speaker pushing a biased agenda, and cherrry picking verses to support this.
      This potential bias I think is partly minimised by a whole book by book, verse by verse teaching approach such as used by Paul and Skip Heitzig. But we need more like them!😊

    My greatest comfort in spite of all confusions are God's Attributes. I can never put God into a box where I THINK He fits in coz He will never fit in, HE IS MORE THAN THIS.
    Thank you, Pastor Paul, you gave me comfort in this preaching. God bless you!

      @@djohnson3093 What is this negative notion of Calvinism? Calvinism view on predestination is in line with reformed theology. You will hear the same teaching of Romans 9/predestination from Lutherans for example. Maybe you are confusing hyper calvinism with historical calvinism.

    • @SeanWinters
      @SeanWinters 2 роки тому +4

      @@ricoparadiso Romans 9 is used by hypercalvinists, and hypercalvinist sympathizers, to justify absolute predestination (humanity has no choice where they go, it's already been decided for us, we're robots etc.) But it's very clear that this scripture is just talking about how God can save gentiles just as much as Jews because it's up to him, it's not up to the Jews to decide who gets saved.

  • @Ephesians-rz7zp
    @Ephesians-rz7zp 2 роки тому +4

    I’m reformed and I really respect the way this pastor broke this down. I understand that it is hard to grasp Romans 9 for most people because we naturally want to be in control, but free will is only the freedom to act according to our own nature and the Bible teaches we are born with a sinful nature as children of wrath, so it is necessary for God to choose us and give us a new nature by being born again in Christ. Just as God cannot sin because it is not in his nature, we cannot do what is pleasing to God because of our nature.
    14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
    1 Corinthians 2:14 | ESV
    30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
    1 Corinthians 1:30 | ESV
    Because of HIM you are in Christ Jesus. Not because of our sinful will but because God removes our heart of stone and gives us a new spirit that causes us to have faith and worship our savior Jesus Christ.
    27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
    Ezekiel 36:27 | ESV

      Actually, Pastor Paul does not teach or believe a classic reformed theological position and believes that God's sovereign choice is coupled with the act of our free will.

    Pastor Paul, thank you for tackling these very difficult scriptures. I don’t get it all either and that’s ok. I get that I am saved by Gods wonderful grace and that the Holy Spirit lives in me and helps me moment by moment. When I make what I’m reading in the Bible too difficult I become of no use to anyone. Simple seems best as well as leaving the things I don’t understand in Gods capable hands.

  • @faithinwhatChristdidonthecross

    Thank you so much for this teaching. I have been struggling with understanding how God has chosen a people and as you were teaching. in verse 30 we can also say that the faith that we have to believe is a gift from God … so that would mean he has given us this gift and if he doesn’t, we can’t believe… I am just trying to make sense of this predestination, knowing I might not fully understand it and that’s OK. I can trust God.

    The heart of God must harmonize with His sovereignty.
    When one understands that God's choice of Jacob over Esau is not about God's choice to save one person over another but rather God's choice in the election of a nation (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) then the heart of God is in perfect harmony with His sovereignty.

    God is as if he watches a movie of us. In the movie he knows what our choice is but during the filming of the movie we made our own choice and that choice cannot be changed once the movie is done. God knows our choice because God is able to view the movie that has not been filmed yet.

    My mother always said "because I said so". As a kid I thought "No, really. What's the real answer?" But as an adult I see that there isn't a need for a more descriptive answer. Besides the kid will challenge it anyway. "It won't spoil my dinner, I promise."

    • @MeederTom
      @MeederTom 4 місяці тому

      Same. I hated that answer as a kid and now as a parent, I realize that giving any kind of answer will just make the debate or argument go on and on. Because the child will never be happy with the answer. So simply saying this is just the way it is.I am the parent and it’s whatever I’ve decided. Is the best way. Since God is a father, he just might see it the same way!

    we humble ourselves= Luke 18:13-14 Philippians 2:3 James 4:6-10,
    we work our salvation with fear and tremble= Philippians 2:12,
    we speak like our brother Job = Job 40:3-5, 42:1-6,
    we confess as Apostle Peter that we Love Him and we follow Him even if don't like the way of our death = John 21:15-19
    we cry out loudly in difficult moments = Mathew 14:29-31
