Hey TSG, I ordered mine when you posted this video, I did not get a tracking or any info that it's being shipped. I've called the number provided in the receipt (Same one you posted) and get no responses and their mailbox is full. Do you have any additional information or contact info? Thanks
A little more technical & engineering review: I bought the SC200 and compared it side by side with a very expensive Trackman and actual (lasered) measurements on the range and I'd like to share some of the findings and (most probable) technical explanations. In short: ball speed is pretty good; the rest you should read to better understand what data you'll get. I'm focusing on the accuracy of the main displayed parameters of the SC200: swing speed, smash factor, ball speed and carry/total dist. CARRY &DISTANCE: First and not surprising, the SC200 does not measure "carry" - it measures ball speed and from then on makes an algorithmic extrapolation about the carry and total distance. So, how accurate is this calculation: Several parameters go into such an algorithm: temperature and barometric pressure, spinrate, launch angle, aerodynamic parameters about the object (the ball). YES: The SC200 does measure temperature and barometric pressure: credits to that! YES: The SC200 does measure ball speed and it is pretty good with that = spot on with the measurements you get from Trackman. NO: the SC200 certainly has no idea whether you're hitting a worn out range ball or a brand new $5 ball and consequently it cannot account for that. It would be really nice, if the makers would shed some light about the assumptions they made here for their mathematical model. UNKNOWN - but most probably NO: Whether the SC200 actually measures spinrate and launchangle - they don't say!! Certainly it doesn't display the info, but theoretically they could still measure it and feed it into the algorithm. I'm assuming it's a 'no' though as you can learn a lot from mishits: if you mishit a ball that it gets hardly in the air, it will just not fly much but rather roll a lot. The SC200 still shows a lot of carry which fits to the ball speed - it just misses the fact of the launch angle. CONCLUSION ON CARRY AND DISTANCE: if you hit it well, the data is good. SWNGSPEED, SMASH-FACTOR: Here's a significant difference to the Trackman data and here's the problem: "Swingspeed" is not the same as "club-head speed at impact". The smash-factor requires the speed at impact - not your maximum swing-speed. Technically it is difficult (at least nobody talks about it) HOW precisely one can determine the moment of impact from the doppler signal. In my observations the data seemed good if you make good contact, but if you hit the ball a little fat, then the data of the SC200 and the Trackman deviate significantly. Generally I got a higher smash factor at trackman (e.g. 1.5 (trackman) vs. 1.4 (SC200) To say it in other words: once the ball is in the air and struck reasonably well, then the SC200 calculates a good carry. But the swing-speed and the derived smash-factor show a significant variance and generally higher values than Trackman. What does that mean: The absolute value is only of relevance if you compare the value across other devices - and you probably shouldn't. The variance of the data seems acceptable if you make really good contact, but for mediocre or bad contact, just don't read anything into it. I bought it to improve rhythm and consistency. My conclusion is that it's fine and helpful and hence was a good purchase, as long as I made okay contact. Otherwise just forget the data. Lastly: my device is freezing occasionally; once per hour. Switching off and on cures the hang-up, but the session data are gone as you start a new session. Sadly enough there's no interface that would allow to apply a firmware update. PPS: these ballflight-algorithms commonly also use different parameters for different clubs. You should always select the right club and loft to get better results. If you hit the same shots and rotate selecting SW, I6, Driver on the SC200 (but also with much more expensive devices) the algorithm difference will become apparent. That's just the nature of the beast if you don't really measure the ballflight to the end. hope that helped..a little..
thanks. You know when you've hit it fat or thin, so I'd just ignore those shots anyway. What I need is consistent yardages for well-hit shots so I can gap my bag. I take it from what you've said that this is achievable using this device?
@@tobybarker6808 Hi Toby, in my opinion the device it not good for the purpose you have in mind: if you want to gap your bag, you need results that reflect your actual distances. The SC200 only measures ball-speed but requires your input about the club (you have to enter the loft; but you cannot enter any shaft data like flex or shaft length which certainly also influence what you really get from the club). It also doesn't measure the launch angle and neither the spin. Bottom line: too much of the displayed data rely on assumptions or calculations which are independent of the real ball flight and which you should get right if you want a launch monitor to fit your bag.
@@josefkohn8226 Thank you. If the data is consistent (even if wrong) it'd be possible to scale up or down to reflect real life data? In other words, say it tells me i hit 7 iron 160, and 6 iron 175....if I measure in real life the distances to be say 5 different, at least I know how to modify what it tells me, by adding or subtracting 5 of each club in the bag. does that make any sense??!?
Using one taught me to stop trying to "hit" the ball instead of "collecting" the ball during a swing that is mostly on the target side of my body. In other words, I learned to stop swinging so "hard" and focused more on a "faster release" (the swoosh happens before impact and continues to your full extension). My ball speeds suddenly went from just shy of 80 mph to around 100 mph once I got clued in. I am now at 105 most of the time. Maybe not super long, but a game changer for me. Big change as my drives put me close enough for mid irons now instead of trying to hold 3 irons coming into the green. Green sizes are designed by the par rating of holes I have found. Par 4 greens being the smallest area most often and par 5's being the largest most of the time. When you get out there close to 290 (counting the rollout) all the time, your scoring range is more manageable. Helped me drop from a 12 cap to now a 2.9. Well, that and working my short game about 90% of the time. Also, I learned to use my body pivot to power my recovery shots, and that changed the game for me personally in a huge way. I stopped hitting fat or thin shots. I had the shoulder pulling the club through the heaviest of rough and hit more exacting distances by controlling how far I rotated, and how fast I did so. My Swing Caddy helped change my game for the better. It helped in areas where I could not witness or measure on my own. And the SC stores the information when you learn how to use it fully. Takes away a lot of the guesswork. Yardages are different every day due to weather and conditions changing. But knowing the speeds you generate gives you the plan choices so you don't come up miles short, or fly the greens. My SC changed my world as far as scoring goes.
Just received my new sc300 and it is so much more accurate than my sc100, the old unit would always give me a perfect smash factor and tell me my swing speed was varying heaps, the new model tells me my clubhead speed is between 118mph and 122mph on every drive, now it's just the ball speed which varies depending on how well I hit my shot, very neat how they self calibrate for atmospheric conditions, great device and it makes every trip to the driving range a fun and at the same time a challenging experience as I want to hit the ball better.
Hi, the most accurate number is almost always going to be the ball speed. It's the easiest thing to read because it's moving faster and has a uniform symmetrical shape. The club head speed can get some errors especially if you have any channels in it like the new PING G410 plus or any of the Taylmormade M clubs. There are issues on $20k+ devices too. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Yea I figured as much, the ball speed numbers from both devices side by side are usually only 2-3mph different so that's reassuring, cant really complain though for the price, it's a lot better than just smashing balls and having no feedback. Cheers for the response and keep up the great videos, I've learned a lot from top speed golf
Hi Jamie, I haven't had a chance to play with it yet but it looks like the same thing except it gives you launch angle and spin rate too. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thanks Mr Ballard for this video. Been looking at the Swing Caddie 2. This video is making my wife a little nervous! Keep up the good work we really appreciate it.
Haha...glad you liked the video. SwingCaddie + flowers for the wife = happiness :-) Be sure to use our link so you can get a $60 off discount: www.swingcaddie.com/topspeedgolf. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
I have the Swing Caddie 100 and it works great for me. I use it to hit into a backyard net (outdoor ranges all closed near me) and I find the numbers to be close enough for me. I got mine through a deal with Revolution Golf and it was dirt cheap so I opted for the older version. I can't recommend it enough. I did look at the MEVO and I may pick one up after a few years if they get some of those bugs worked out in it. It looks promising but I think it needs more work.
I have one and love it. It typically reads low for club speed, but consistent nonetheless. The random practice function is great as lots of research has shown that skill acquisition is improved through random practice.
Hi Dean, thanks for sharing. We have found that the club head speeds are really close up against the GC Quad. I 100% agree about the random practice. Plus, it's a lot more fun than just pounding balls. Hope you're playing great! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great details comparison, Clay. I just ordered 1 set because of you. I shall test it immediately when it arrived. If it works fine, some more will come. You did great work.
Thanks for the info on this. I've been back and forth at different monitors for a budget and your review won me over. Bought one today because you can't go wrong with a little discount on good equipment. Hopefully they'll be sending some money your way soon. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the videos you publish.
Bought one couple years back and honestly great value for money. Super accurate swing speeds against Trackman, I usually only check my swingspeed. Would be perfect if it had also launch angle measurement.
Hi Tony, thanks for sharing. I agree 100%. Launch angle would be a good thing to add. Maybe in the next model :-) Hope you're playing great! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
I got one on eBay for $100. It was missing the remote but ordered for $20. They sent me the remote for another model but sent the right one as soon as I called them. Swing Caddy stood behind their product 100%. It uses Doppler radar and it is accurate. A reminder if you get one... carry extra batteries. The remote uses a watch battery. Look for one online like I did and save some money. Because it uses microwave technology, the lens doesn't have to be perfectly clean to use. With optical devices they do.
Hi Eddie, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you got a heck of a deal. I just looked on eBay and didn't see any that low. Most were about double that. Also, it's great to hear that SwingCaddie stands by their product. Hope you're playing great! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
I'd love for you to have a guy out there in the fairway who can mark where your ball actually lands and use a laser rangefinder to measure the actual distance and compare that to the two machines. (Obviously a calm/non-windy day would be required).
Hi Adam, that's a great idea. There is always going to be a margin for error when using launch monitors. None of them, even the highest end models, are 100% accurate. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, i get that. But i'd like to know just how far off they are. We talking 2-3 yards? Or 10+? And not to call you out (all Golf guys on UA-cam use Trackman, GCQuad, etc), but PGA Tour avg carry distance with a driver is 275 yards. I understand you're a good fit player, but you (and again, a lot of other UA-cam golf guys) seem to always carry it close to 300... blog.trackmangolf.com/2017-pga-lpga-tour-avg/
I just got my swing caddie 1 the differences shouldn't be to much. I hope its close enough to the swing caddie 2 beacause im looking to take my game to the next level.I really hope its close because i couldn't afford the swing caddie 2 so Igot the 1 .
Cobra same length F* Memorial Day 2019. All distance below are ball carry distances. Actual finish length was longer. Hit 5 balls at 4 1/2 feet behind and 5 at 6 feet behind on each club. No real change in speed or distance readings. Started with a 7 iron. Got consistent readings of swing speed 81-85 mph, 165-178 length, 10 balls. This matched what was actually happening. Hit 5 at 4/12 feet/5 at 6 feet. No change. Went to 9 iron. Set Caddie to I9. Same length club as 7 iron. Was actually hitting it consistently 145-155 yards. The Caddie showed me at 60-63 mph swing speed, 119-125 yards. 5+ balls Went to 6 iron. Set Caddie to I6. Same length club as 9 iron. Hitting balls about 180-190, Caddie showed 155-166 mph swing speed 77-81. 5+ balls Went to a PW. Set Caddie to PW. Hitting balls about 135-150 consistently. Caddie showed swing speed of 44-60 mph. Managed to get a 63 swinging really fast. 5+ balls. Went to 5 iron. Set Caddie to I5. Same length as all other clubs. Hitting balls about 190-200. Swing speed 70-81 mph. 5+ balls. Went to driver. Set Caddie to W1. 44” diver, Taylor Made R-15, stiff shaft. Hitting balls 240-270 or more (some landing beyond 264 yard pin but hard to tell how far at that distance). Swing Caddie showed a consistent swing speed of 95 mph and never exceeded 95 mph no matter how fast I swung the club. The distance readings did seem fairly accurate, with 10-20 yards of where the ball was landing. 15 + balls Turned Caddie off. Turned it back on and set it up 1 inch above grass and set it at exactly 6 feet from balls. Repeated process above hitting 2 balls, changing clubs, repeat. No real change in numbers but swing speed increased by 2 mph on irons but stayed at for driver. Tried leaving Caddie at 7iron setting too, since all clubs were same length. Still got vastly different distances than actual and swing speeds that varied from 44-85 mph. I swing the clubs all the same speed, more or less, so the speed readings should have been in the 75-85 speed for all the irons since they are all same length, same weight, same moi. Very inconsistent readings. Not sure what is going on but these numbers are simply not accurate. Very disappointed in the product. I did not really expect the the ball distances to be that accurate but I expected the swing speed to be very accurate after reading the reviews. Swing speed was what I was really working on. I am going to return the Swing Caddie. But thanks for your prompt reply to my first email. I will be posting my results on UA-cam reply sections on Caddie reviews, (Clay Ballard, Mark Crossfield and others) and the site where I bought the Swing Caddie so others can see what I experienced. Perhaps I got a bad Caddie. But I went to great efforts to accurately see what my speeds and distance were and they simply did not match reality.
Hi Garland, the carry distances are an estimation. They use the information that it records such as club head speed, ball speed and atmospheric conditions then plugs it into an algorithm to get you the estimated carry distance. We found in our testing that it's pretty close. If you do something at impact that is much different than what's in their algorithm then your numbers will be off. That would be things like adding loft, delofting, hitting down on the ball a lot. It's not a perfect device but it's pretty darn good for the price. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf Yes I get that, but that doesn't explain why the swing speeds are different. Since they are all same length, the swing speeds should all be the same. Since the 7iron was 81-85mph, all of them should be 81-85, understanding that fat ones changes speed of course. I was swing speeds of 70 mph on 5 iron and 44 on PW. I was swinging same speed. Something is wrong there. I am going try one more time this weekend and see. Thanks
# Garland Campbell Hello, Garland. Interesting topic here about your Single Length Clubs. Maybe the readings by your SC 200 are going wild just due to an estimated "typical" club-length-scheme in their algorithms. So, it might be helpful for you just to type in f.i. "7 iron" (if that's the relating length for all of your single length-clubs) but then to change the loft-settings accordingly to the different clubs you hit. I tend to assume much better results. Just my 2cents. Have fun Broder "Brother Lefty" / Germany

just used my SC200 for the first time! wow - it's fun, but also very humbling.... I warmed up and worked through my irons, and when I thought I was ready, I pulled out the driver. I've always thought my swing speed would at least be in the high 90's, but my average was around 86mph... my smash factor seemed to be pretty good - usually over 1.40, sometimes even 1.49, but with a swing speed of mid-80's, my carry was always around 200 yards or slightly less! I'd love to send you a video of my swing (before today) to ask your opinion if getting close to a 100mph swing speed is still possible for me (will turn 54 in 6 months)... according to the SC200, I hit my 8 iron 130 yards, so I feel there's some hope to increase my driver distance...
No problem David! Glad you liked the video. Be sure to use our link so you can get a $60 off discount: www.swingcaddie.com/topspeedgolf. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Would have made more sense to compare it against your Flightscope, both being radar based system. Your GCQuad is a closed system data and spit out idealized number not accounting for environmental factor such as wind, etc... I would think.
Hi, I agree to a certain extent. I think it's still a good comparison because this device doesn't factor in wind either. Also, Clay just got the GC Quad and he probably wanted to play with it :-) Hope you're playing great! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Clay, Thanks as always for the great videos and instruction. Does the Swing Caddie assume you are hitting standard balls? What happens with the distance readings when you hit dead range balls?
Hi, it's important to note that the distance is an estimation no matter what balls you hit. Dead range balls or limited flight balls will give lower ball speed numbers and distance estimations. It won't change the club head speed which is really the most important number you want to be concerned with. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Ade, it's going to measure your club head speed accurately but if hitting range balls, it might have lower ball speed measurements than what you would expect. Most range balls are limited flight to a certain extent so just keep this in mind. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
I own the Swing Caddie and have run into this issue. When I am swinging driver, I’m right around 115-117 mph club head speed. If I really hit it out of the middle with a range ball I’ll get to 170 mph ball speed. I knew my club head speed equated to more ball speed so I grabbed a premium ball and hit it out onto the range. Sure enough, the ball speed got to 180. You just have to keep it in mind when you practice. If you are hitting a longer club, be sure to add a few yards to the read out. In my experience, anything under 100 yards won’t matter much. You simply don’t compress the ball enough under 100 yards for there to be disparity in distance between range balls and premium balls. I love the “approach” mode. It has completely changed my game inside 100 yards.
Does anyone know if you’re using the swing caddy? Does the ground have to be perfectly flat where you’re hitting the ball where I practice? I’m a little bit on top of the hill and hitting the ball down. I’m not sure if it would work.
Hi Clay, I bought the swing caddie sc200 after you recommended it. Unfortunately the remote control doesn't work. It has no button to switch it on so I just directed it ti the main unit, but nothing happens. I tried a new battery CR 2025 3V, but there was no contact between the two units. Is there something wrong with the remote controller and if so how can I get a new one? Kind regards Stina
Hi, sorry to hear you're having trouble. I haven't had this issue or heard of anyone else having it. I would recommend contacting the manufacturer. Hope you're playing great!
Had one (2) 2 years ago and both broke so sent them both back... have they sorted this out ??? was it a bad batch ?? when it worked it was great especially target golf with wedges !!
Hi David, I had the first one they came out with for a few years and then I recently got this one. Both worked great. Sounds like you just had some bad luck. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thanks for the video. Great demo. I’m hoping the unit could help in measuring my yardage’s with each club in my bag. My golf club uses old worn golf range balls, will this affect my results? Thanks - Lee
Unfortunately yes. The swing speed will be the same, but the ball speed and overall distance will reflect the shorter range balls. It shouldn't be a lot if your range uses old balls that are real golf balls. If they are limited flight range balls, they will go much shorter.
Hi, I used to have that one and it worked well too. This one has some other features and it also reads the atmospheric conditions to make it more accurate. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Just picked one up and was unboxing it and playing around with it. It was night time so I just starting swinging a club in front of the unit. It was telling me a distance without hitting any ball. Does yours or anyone else's do that ?
No problem Tikka, glad you liked the video. Yes, this is for the SC200. I believe this is the best price. It's at least the best price they gave us to give to you. Be sure to use our link so you can get a $60 off discount: www.swingcaddie.com/topspeedgolf. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
just ordered mine! I plan to ask the school where I coach intermediate golf to get one or two of these monitors for our team..... If just ordered mine on 8/22, how soon can I expect it (I live in Hawaii)? one week?
Clay, can you elaborate as to why you prefer the Mevo? I see the SC200 being better for me on a range (I.e. no metal stickers) and the Mevo better for me hitting into a net. Your thoughts?
Hi Brad, no, it's only going to pick up your ball as long as you have it positioned properly behind your ball. Be sure to use our link so you can get a $60 off discount: www.swingcaddie.com/topspeedgolf. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Again, the reviewer will go easier on any product acquired free. As much as I respect Clay, I wouldn't blame him if he turned a blind eye to some failings; there may come a "thank you" in the post ;) Rick Sheils (not my favourite reviewer) has just done review of this device (he claims he bought his) and he found this device was giving very different numbers to the GC Quad from 170 yards upward.. I'll grant you that it's possible he might not have set one of his devices correctly? I wouldn't mind betting they often tweak settings to make it look like they are longer than they really are. Lol. Frankly, I'm a little skeptical about ALL of these devices in terms of accuracy. They might make good comparators but any data captured in a small time frame is inherently prone to big errors, regardless. I say that as a former software engineer who programmed precision measuring systems. There's always quite a lot of "fudge" going on under the bonnet in the name of "calibration". There's never a substitute for real world data from real ball flight. As for pure clubhead speed, can you not sense and hear the difference without these devices? Great devices for marketing and impressing novices but personally I'd never fit clubs or diagnose my technique with one of these. The mere presence of the device will have a negative impact at a fitting. Then there are the mats which always forgive poor bottoming out issues, and if your not indoors then just use the visual data from the ball flight, the undeniable feedback from a skid plate, and the impact location from the bruise of a ball with marker pen applied to the back of the ball!
Hi, thanks for the feedback and insights. As you can probably imagine, we get tons of things sent to us. We only share things that we like. Everything else just gathers dust in Clay's garage. These things are accurate and got within a couple mph of $20k devices. The only issue we have had with them is that they can over heat and give funny numbers. I wouldn't use this device to fit clubs. I would only use this device to train for speed. It's important to have something to measure speed when you're training it otherwise you wouldn't really know if you're improving. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Matthew, that's something that is just now being offered on the highest end models of launch monitors which aren't really affordable for the typical golfer. I would recommend using foot powder spray, impact tape or marking the golf ball with a marker so that it will rub off on the club at impact. These are all much more economical and probably more accurate too :-) Hope you're playing great! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Jimmy, I believe that it need 7-10 feet of ball flight to get the numbers. As long as you have that then there shouldn't be any difference compared to not hitting into a net. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi, we haven't tested the Mevo but I would assume it would be similar. The Mevo is also a radar based system and FlightScope makes great products. I have heard good things about the Mevo. The only thing I wouldn't expect to be too accurate with it would be the spin rates. You have to use the metallic dots on the ball to get accurate numbers and that's not something I'd like to do to every ball. Hope you're playing great! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hey Clay playing the sldr now over the M1 it looked like you've been using? Is there any use for the SC2 without going to the range? Will it read swing speed without hitting balls?
Hi Richard, I believe Clay is using the SLDR now instead of the M1 because it has a metallic face. This works much better with the GCQuad. You do have to hit balls with the SwingCaddie. If you want to measure your swing speed without hitting a ball then I would recommend using the Swing Speed Radar. It just reads swing speed. Here is the link where you can get one: www.amazon.com/Sports-Sensors-Swing-Speed-Radar/dp/B00124P7SI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523027508&sr=8-1&keywords=swing+speed+radar. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi, yeah, it works better with the GCQuad because it has a metallic face vs black face that most newer drivers have. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi David, your ball speeds might be lower on the range because many ranges use limited flight or low quality balls. The club head speed will be accurate though. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
The device uses Doppler radar, which is a comparative calculation of sorts. The Doppler measures the speed of the club head entering the contact area and the speed of the launched ball to get the smash factor. It uses the pathway at approx 6 feet to deduce the left-right launch path. So as long as you have 7 feet or more to your netting, the device still calculates the information accurately. It also tracks your information in a data set that you can download. So you can see your growth or decline over time. I started my journey with mine at a swing speed of 84 mph with my driver. (All other clubs have slower speeds due to shaft lengths being shorter in length.) Now I am more relaxed with my hands and wrist, have a bigger turn (left shoulder moves towards the ball on the takeaway), and use my right shoulder and right elbow moving towards the ball on the downswing and get over 105 mph. That right shoulder moving towards the ball means you are swinging on the proper plane instead of a flat turn with your shoulders (twisting instead of pivoting). The right elbow leading the wrist towards the ball itself means you are building lag properly. It feels more like throwing a ball sidearm. To get that, the elbow must lead the wrist and hands. I learned all of this using the Swing Caddy. Took me close to 6 months, but my handicap dropped from a 12 to a 3 within a year. And I am 64 years old.
eddiebro101 Thank you for good answer. Sounds great machine and good that you have improved 👍 I agree that golf kinematic seguense is same like sidearm throw, but i don't want to think my body parts. I want to see the ball flight in my mind.
Hi Jukka, that's going to be tough unless you have a similator. This is just going to give you club head speed and ball speed plus a estimation of the distance. It's not going to know if you hit a heavy slice or hook but it will be reflected in your ball speed numbers. You can't get a good smash factor if you're cutting across the ball. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thank you taking the time and answering to my guestion. This is good to know. Sounds still good monitor for wedge distance conrol and also that smash factor helps 👍
Hi Paul, it will work in a net as well but there is a number of feet that it needs to read before it hits the net. I just called VoiceCaddie to find out what that is and they said you want about 7 feet between the ball and the net to get the most accurate readings. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard ok my net is to close then.Hey I appreciate that info and you getting back with me.I will get further back and try that.I know the swing speed seem correct but distance was way off well shorter. Thanks Quentin
Does anybody know if these units have a speed limit, I have the swing caddie sc100 and I'm swinging around 120mph club speed, my max ball speed is 174mph though and I've seen this number plenty of times, it just seems odd I've never once hit 175mph even by fluke. Any info would be good. I'm looking at upgrading to the sc300 soon but would love to know if they have a similar limit
Yes, but I think you need 7 feet or so between the ball and the net. This is an older video. They actually don't make these anymore but you might be able to still find one. This one is better: topspeedgolf.com/prgr-2/
Yes, you just need about 7 feet of flight. Unfortunately, they don't make this device anymore but you may be able to find them somewhere. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I found it better to be at least 7 feet from the netting so the Doppler gets the smash factor reading properly. I use it at home in my net a lot actually. The readings are pretty much the same as at the range. I think the only difference is I use my ProV's instead of range balls so the numbers are slightly different.
eddiebro101 when you say 7 feet, do you mean as long as the Swing Caddie is 7 feet away from the net or I need 7 feet from where the ball lies to the net ???
Hi Rick, this is typical because most range balls are limited flight balls. This means that the ball speed and carry numbers are going to be less with range balls. Pay attention mostly to the club head speed when on the range. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Steven, this is the newer model SC200. The SC100 works well too. I had it for a long time before they came out with this new one. The biggest differences are that this one factors in some atmospheric conditions to estimate your distances and it also talks to you. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Sure, shallow your angle of attack slightly so you don't drive the clubhead under the surface too much. and swing a bit easier so you don't rotate off the shot with your feet slipping out from under you. You can also open the face slightly and play the ball slightly forward in your stance to promote a more shallow angle of attack.
Hi, hope you can get one. They work great. Be sure to use our link to get $60 off: www.swingcaddie.com/topspeedgolf. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi, I'm not really sure but my guess is that it wasn't doing very well. We do have the video available to All Access Members here: topspeedgolf.com/vault/driver-cheat-petroleum-jelly-on-driver-test/. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
For practice I find this pretty useless since it only shows speeds and practice is usually done on range balls. Much more important with path, club face angle and attack angle imo.
Hi Dee, I agree to a certain extent but this device is very useful if you're trying to increase your swing speed and it's a great practice tool to vary your training hitting at different distances. Plus, it's a more fun way to practice. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi, the GC Quad give you a lot more information. This one measures 2 things. The GC Quad measures about 20 I think which is why there is a different price point. Play well! Quenitn | TSG Instructor

Hi TSG, I just ordered one following your link. I couldn't see where to track the order... Any ideas? I can't wait to test this in my backyard
Hey TSG, I ordered mine when you posted this video, I did not get a tracking or any info that it's being shipped. I've called the number provided in the receipt (Same one you posted) and get no responses and their mailbox is full. Do you have any additional information or contact info? Thanks
Just used my Voice Caddie sc200 at the driving range........And it worked great! Thank you Mr. Ballard
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard link?
A little more technical & engineering review: I bought the SC200 and compared it side by side with a very expensive Trackman and actual (lasered) measurements on the range and I'd like to share some of the findings and (most probable) technical explanations.
In short: ball speed is pretty good; the rest you should read to better understand what data you'll get.
I'm focusing on the accuracy of the main displayed parameters of the SC200:
swing speed, smash factor, ball speed and carry/total dist.
CARRY &DISTANCE:
First and not surprising, the SC200 does not measure "carry" - it measures ball speed and from then on makes an algorithmic extrapolation about the carry and total distance.
So, how accurate is this calculation:
Several parameters go into such an algorithm: temperature and barometric pressure, spinrate, launch angle, aerodynamic parameters about the object (the ball).
UNKNOWN - but most probably NO:
Whether the SC200 actually measures spinrate and launchangle - they don't say!!
CONCLUSION ON CARRY AND DISTANCE:
if you hit it well, the data is good.
SWNGSPEED, SMASH-FACTOR:
Here's a significant difference to the Trackman data and here's the problem:
"Swingspeed" is not the same as "club-head speed at impact".
1.4 (SC200)
To say it in other words: once the ball is in the air and struck reasonably well, then the SC200 calculates a good carry.
But the swing-speed and the derived smash-factor show a significant variance and generally higher values than Trackman.
What does that mean:
The absolute value is only of relevance if you compare the value across other devices - and you probably shouldn't.
Wow, great info and cheers for sharing and taking the time to fire it up here for everyone to see.
I'll second that! Excellent review, really appreciate you taking the time.
thanks. You know when you've hit it fat or thin, so I'd just ignore those shots anyway. What I need is consistent yardages for well-hit shots so I can gap my bag. I take it from what you've said that this is achievable using this device?
@@tobybarker6808 Hi Toby,
in my opinion the device it not good for the purpose you have in mind:
if you want to gap your bag, you need results that reflect your actual distances.
Best review of this device on the web right now! Exactly what I needed to commit to buying one. Thank you!
Swing Caddie SC300 is out now. Im sure we would all enjoy a review on their new technology.
Hi Jamie, I haven't had a chance to play with it yet but it looks like the same thing except it gives you launch angle and spin rate too. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Just get a Trackman 4 or a Flightscope Mevo. 2.
Thanks Mr Ballard for this video. Been looking at the Swing Caddie 2. This video is making my wife a little nervous! Keep up the good work we really appreciate it.

So It's worth buying?
So this is worth buying?
Great details comparison, Clay.
I just ordered 1 set because of you.
I shall test it immediately when it arrived.
If it works fine, some more will come.
You did great work.
Thanks!
I picked up one of these... the practice mode is awesome already! Going to work more on the other modes next.
I bought that Swing Caddie last year. It works great.
Just ordered this and glad I was able to get a brand new one with your discount. Appreciate you a bunch

Thanks for the info on this. I've been back and forth at different monitors for a budget and your review won me over. Bought one today because you can't go wrong with a little discount on good equipment. Hopefully they'll be sending some money your way soon. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the videos you publish.

I had a Swing Caddie 2 and it was always closest on ball speed. I really liked it.
Hi, thanks for sharing. I agree, it is very accurate. Cheers! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

I just bought one because of this review.

Great hope you enjoy that
Gc quad
How do you like it?? I’m on the fence.
I just got my swing caddie 1 the differences shouldn't be to much. I hope its close enough to the swing caddie 2 beacause im looking to take my game to the next level.I really hope its close because i couldn't afford the swing caddie 2 so Igot the 1 .
Just ordered mine through your link. Thanks for the review and awesome videos!
5+ balls
Went to 6 iron. Set Caddie to I6. Same length club as 9 iron. Hitting balls about 180-190, Caddie showed 155-166 mph swing speed 77-81. 5+ balls
Went to a PW.
15 + balls
Turned Caddie off.

Great Review thanks for the info. I hope to pick up one soon.
Thanks Brad!
Can you hit it into a net in backyard and get accurate reading?
just used my SC200 for the first time! wow - it's fun, but also very humbling....
Just purchased one with coupons from Golf Galaxy. on my way to the driving range to test out.
Clay, thanks for the review, Swing caddie 2 just went to the top of my wish list.
Smash factor is not a “measurement” it is a calculation. Ball speed/swing speed = Smash @ 1:55 162/113=1.43362...
Hi Mr. Ballard! How long will this sale last? I hope to buy this soon....
Does it tell you the the ball direction if you’re hitting into a net?
Clay, keep up the great work. I'm loving my subscription to your teaching videos.
Thanks Billrok!
How does it differentiate yardages on range balls vs. regular golf ball you'd be playing. Would you add yardage?
Hi Andy, it won't. Range balls will give you lower ball speed numbers especially if they are limited flight. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Does the barometric setting change on its on?
How does it measure using range balls? Still accurate by reducing distances to suit?
Ade Senior be interested to know this, also, would it work on a floodlit range at night?
Hi Ade, it's going to measure your club head speed accurately but if hitting range balls, it might have lower ball speed measurements than what you would expect. Most range balls are limited flight to a certain extent so just keep this in mind. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard Cheers, Clay. Thanks for the instruction videos 👍
Clay, will this device give you sidespin and/or off target line info as well? So you know if your off line while using this while hitting into a net?
Nice review. Best one I have seen for it.
Thanks!
It’s not for club fitting, it’s a way to gain some consistency in your swing.
Yes, I 100% agree. This is not meant for club fitting. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thanks for the Review
No problem John!
Quick question how does it work on flop shots does it give a good reading or Can it give a reading ???????
Does it work if you are hitting off mats....and the monitor is a little lower on the concrete?....
the wedge practice mode looks like fun! I think my wife will roll her eyes when I show her this video...
Brilliant video Clay
Thanks Mark!
Glad you did this outside cause Rick shiels did the same test indoors and got horrible results.
Clay, could this be used in a basement with foam balls?
ordered one , thanks!

Had one (2) 2 years ago and both broke so sent them both back... have they sorted this out ??? was it a bad batch ?? when it worked it was great especially target golf with wedges !!

Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard maybe try again!!!
If they are limited flight range balls, they will go much shorter.
i use the SC100. love it.
Hi, I used to have that one and it worked well too. This one has some other features and it also reads the atmospheric conditions to make it more accurate. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Excellent video there. Do you have to hit a ball for it to measure accurately?
Yes, but I think the plus version they just came out with has a setting where you don't have to hit a ball. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf THanks Quentin, Ill check it out. :)
Just picked one up and was unboxing it and playing around with it. It was night time so I just starting swinging a club in front of the unit. It was telling me a distance without hitting any ball. Does yours or anyone else's do that ?
Hi clay, thanks for the vids. Appreciate it. This deal on the SC200? Is it the best price available on a new unit?

Which would you recommend?
Swing Caddie 2 vs Flightscope Mevo?
Hi Sun, I like the Mevo more but it really depends on what you're looking for. The both have their pros and cons. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay, can you elaborate as to why you prefer the Mevo? I see the SC200 being better for me on a range (I.e. no metal stickers) and the Mevo better for me hitting into a net. Your thoughts?
Have you ever done a comparison with the Ernest Sports ES14?
Hi Don, we haven't done a comparison but I did have a chance to use one and it seemed to work pretty well. Quentin | TSG Instructor
You are the only person hitting, if on a range with 20 other golfers does it pick up shots from other golfers that may cross into its view?

As much as I respect Clay, I wouldn't blame him if he turned a blind eye to some failings; there may come a "thank you" in the post ;)
Rick Sheils (not my favourite reviewer) has just done review of this device (he claims he bought his) and he found this device was giving very different numbers to the GC Quad from 170 yards upward..
Y didn't I listen to u on this months ago on this? Bout to order mine right now. Thanks delayed
No problem Joe! Hope you enjoy it. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
i really like to know where on the club i hit it too
sometimes u can see it on the club but it would b nice to see it on the monitor too
Use some powered foot spay on the club. Cheap and works great.
yea i have some
i need to start using it
Carry some athletes foot powder and spray the face. You'll see everything.
The smash factor feature will be an indicator as to how close to the center of the club you're hitting. 1.50 is a center hit.
Wondering how accurate would this unit be if hitting in to a net outdoors?
Hi Jimmy, I believe that it need 7-10 feet of ball flight to get the numbers. As long as you have that then there shouldn't be any difference compared to not hitting into a net. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Clay, how does this compare to the Flightscope Mevo?
No... it reads Doppler radar, so something has the be moving.
eddiebro101 thanks bro
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard Thanks Quentin.
SLDR driver in the bag?
Hi, yeah, it works better with the GCQuad because it has a metallic face vs black face that most newer drivers have. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Does it work well with range balls. Really enjoy your videos
Hi David, your ball speeds might be lower on the range because many ranges use limited flight or low quality balls. The club head speed will be accurate though. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Looks great and cheap launch monitor. What if you are hitting a net or what if you hit big slice or hook? Can you notice that 🤔
The device uses Doppler radar, which is a comparative calculation of sorts.
Hi, thank you so much for sharing. This is great information. Glad you are getting good use out of it. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
I got the first swing caddy and it don't work accurate in net.Have you notice that with this one? Thanks
Paul, good question. I just finished a golf cage and was wondering the same thing. Be great to know, might have to contact swing caddie to find out.
Nice clubhead speed! Didn’t look as fast on the video
Thanks Juan!
Can it be used in a net
Yes, but I think you need 7 feet or so between the ball and the net. This is an older video. They actually don't make these anymore but you might be able to still find one. This one is better: topspeedgolf.com/prgr-2/
Can you use this indoors?
Yes, you just need about 7 feet of flight. Unfortunately, they don't make this device anymore but you may be able to find them somewhere. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Does the Swing Caddie 2 work if your hitting into a net, or do you need to be on a range/course ???
Anthony Esposito
It works on a net 6 feet away
Christophe Genero That's what I was afraid of !! My winter indoor hitting area is tight !!!
I found it better to be at least 7 feet from the netting so the Doppler gets the smash factor reading properly. I use it at home in my net a lot actually. The readings are pretty much the same as at the range. I think the only difference is I use my ProV's instead of range balls so the numbers are slightly different.
eddiebro101 when you say 7 feet, do you mean as long as the Swing Caddie is 7 feet away from the net or I need 7 feet from where the ball lies to the net ???
eddiebro101 Because if it's 7 feet from Swing Caddie to net, I might be good !!! But if it's 7 feet from where ball lies to net, think I'm closer !!!
I purchased a sc100. Worked fine with good balls but wouldnt work with range balls.
Hi Rick, this is typical because most range balls are limited flight balls. This means that the ball speed and carry numbers are going to be less with range balls. Pay attention mostly to the club head speed when on the range. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
i hate to sound like an idiot.. but i didn't see or hear it mentioned; is this the SC100 or SC200?
Hi Steven, this is the newer model SC200. The SC100 works well too. I had it for a long time before they came out with this new one. The biggest differences are that this one factors in some atmospheric conditions to estimate your distances and it also talks to you. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Can you tell me maybe how to Play from wet course ,the setup Wich Clubs wet course is my weakness
Sure, shallow your angle of attack slightly so you don't drive the clubhead under the surface too much. and swing a bit easier so you don't rotate off the shot with your feet slipping out from under you. You can also open the face slightly and play the ball slightly forward in your stance to promote a more shallow angle of attack.
eddiebro101 Thank u
This was way better than Rick's shiels Review. Rick is still awesome though
Thanks!
I've been looking at the SC200 and the new model SC300. The reviews are all over the place. Good and bad. Difficult to make a decision.
We haven't had a chance to review the SC300 but the SC200 is good. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Haha...We think you'll enjoy it. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
The link didn't work!
Sorry Eric. I don't believe they make this product anymore. This is an older video.
I want one sooo bad
...and that's good! Look for them on eBay and Amazon and save some money. I got mine for $100.
Hi, hope you can get one. They work great. Be sure to use our link to get $60 off: www.swingcaddie.com/topspeedgolf. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Got to save those bucks for that Gc quad
Obvious question why did you buy the expensive one?
As opposed to the first model? The Swing Caddie 2 has some extra features. Most notably, it talks to you. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Why did you delete the petroleum jelly video?
Hi, I'm not really sure but my guess is that it wasn't doing very well. We do have the video available to All Access Members here: topspeedgolf.com/vault/driver-cheat-petroleum-jelly-on-driver-test/. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
It seems you need to be on a FLAT surface at the range it does not work on a range that drops down range.
I wish this bad boy gave spin results but thats probably asking to much for this price point
As accurate as this is, it makes me realize how overpriced the Quad is. Thanks for the video, I’m a big fan of your tutorials.
Hi, the GC Quad give you a lot more information. This one measures 2 things. The GC Quad measures about 20 I think which is why there is a different price point. Play well! Quenitn | TSG Instructor
