the city feels much more alive in this version, and not just because of all the NPCs doing background stuff, but even something so simple as windows on buildings, walls are not as empty as in final version, Metropolis doesn't feel like the "not a natural formation" tunnel from first Halo, it's a real virtual city
I think this city is missing nature (trees, palm trees etc) and water and natural materials like pebbles, ground and other stuff. The final Halo 2 release fixed it, but it looks so bland a weird considering a lot of buildings don't even have windows on them or the windows look weird. The only thing that looks like a town is Outskirts. But yes, if they added some natural elements into the e3 demo, maybe some parks, then it would have been perfect. Also idk what happened to the final Halo 2's lighting, this recovered e3 demo is ported into the final Halo 2 engine but still has way better shadows and lights so the engine itself is capable of more than what they did with the bland and gray city in the final release.
@canyongoat2096 of course Outskirt would still have to be kept, but this map feels like a better alternative to the final part of Metropolis. retail Metropolis has a nice park area after the tunnel, which I could see replacing some of the more boring streets here, or maybe appearing after this demo ends
@@blueshit199 Yes definitely, Metropolis seems rushed, almost no building has windows on them, and it has hardly any details. And it just looks weirdly gray, I'm not a fan of it but at least they added the trees. Also the Metropolis city area is ridiculously small, while there are way too many boring tunnels in the final Halo 2 city levels. Also they should have kept this skybox/lighting with the nice sunset and the lights that are turned on in the streets properly. Also this e3 city reminds me a lot of the Halo 3 ODST city in style, and it even has these locked sectors/walls like in Halo 3 ODST it's pretty cool. And idk why they featured the Shadows so few times, the e3 demo had a lot of Shadows.

Very cool. Thank you for posting this. Seeing it really makes one again wonder what Halo 2 could have been like with the other third they had to cut. It was bitter sweet. It sucks there is no more real content for Halo ce-3. His videos used to be awesome. Now it is just pretty much mod stuff which is fine if you play on a computer. I was always wondering what the logic was behind building New Mombasa as this tower city structure
I always thought it was just a wonky skybox and its actually just a normal city just stretched upwards to make it look bigger
