I was a Temple student when remains were exhumed from Monument Cemetery. As noted, the cemetery was in deplorable condition since the last burials were in the late 1920s and there was no more space for burials. The cemetery, owned by the Monument Cemetery Company, had no income thus no maintenance. Paul F. Barnes was named receiver for the company and was directed by the Court of Common Pleas to initiate the sale and develop procedures for exhumation of remains and reburial. The Company had mailing addresses for only 748 lot holders. They were contacted but only 422 replied. Not all gravestones were used for rip rap. I remember watching workers with sledge hammers breaking up the marble headstones.

No words to express the dishonor the city has/ had for our forefathers. Why bother to take children on trips to enhance their knowledge about history. Who needs history anymore? Great video Capt.,

Hey Captain, that railroad bridge just south of the Betsy Ross Bridge is the Delair Bridge which is operated by Conrail and New Jersey Transit, I'm a Engineer for NJT on that line and have been for 24 years, love your channel and would love to see you on my train one day to AC or 30th St. Philadelphia

This kind of thing that makes me lose my mind! Here in Tampa, the same shenanigans are going on. But only certain groups of people have been effected. This is disgusting behavior by elected officials who should pay for their crimes.

I had no idea about this! Im sad about those poor souls who have no markers. That is a disgrace that all of those headstones were just thrown beside the river at Betsy Ross bridge. Just terrible!

yo Captain, love your channel and this is some great content. so I'm gonna ask you for something, as you might be the only person who can get the answer.
what happened to the statue of liberty that Philadelphia had outside of city hall? about 100 years ago. you can find photos on Google, but no info on why we had it, or where it went.

Seems very disrespectful to me. I live in South Jersey now but grew up at Adam's Ave and the Boulevard. I wish they would have put some kind of marker or memorial where the bodies were moved to.
