It's gracious of her to ultimately say, "Let them do their thing and we'll do ours," knowing that the higher ups totally lifted their concept. Obviously the actors had nothing to do with it. This was a job they auditioned for and landed. But it would be nice if at some point any one of them said something to the effect of, "Look, we had no idea at the time, but we need to acknowledge who paved the way for Friends." It would cost them nothing to give props.
The fact the “Friends” actors didn’t know Kim and Erika were on “Living Single” is VERY telling. “Living Single” NEVER got the accolades and publicity “Friends” got. Kim seemed to take it in stride so that’s a good thing.
@@jeffkoons001 according to an interview with TC Carson, both shows were shot next door to each other on the same lot at Warner Brothers. So i know the “Friends” had to know bout “Living Single”.
@CrownWreathCreative I’ll be very honest, I NEVER EVER saw the similarities between “Living Single” and “Friends”. The bottom line is what u said if “Living Single” brought a HUGE following, they would’ve pushed it more. In the black community “Living Single” was a hit. “Friends” was a damn empire. I c “Friends” EVERYWHERE. It’s one of the most successful syndicated shows of all time. Now unfortunately with the passing of Mathew Perry, the publicity from that will make “Friends” even more popular.
@CrownWreathCreative The Jamie Foxx Show didn't have more of a following than Living Single. In fact, the former premiered during the latter's fourth season and didn't peak until the latter went off of the air. I just know you're a Black man who never bothered to watch Living Single with what you wrote 😂
Question: Why are white people so terrified of being called racists? Like they always tiptoe around the subject and try their most desperate to come up with an almost "believable" excuse just to shake off that well-deserved discomfort? 🤔
I had a white coworker Who refused to see any black TV shows or movies. Even if the movie was number one in the theaters like the best man she did not go. She only knew the black actors like Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett. You don’t learn anything if your mind is closed.

@@tevezcarlos412 Disagree. I am giving friends a chance for the first time and I am on season 1 episode 17 and I am still waiting to laugh. I laughed once within 17 episodes when Phoebe said a line to someone, but her character is a fucking idiot. Friends creators dumb down their characters for a laugh, where as Living Single creators smarten their characters and has a adult content to the narratives for a laugh. I do like the narrative about Ross becoming a father and having a baby mother who is gay on Friends, that's interesting and some of his reactions are funny. The execution would have been better and funnier and mature if put on Living single because the writers would have made the characters intelligent about dealing with the situation making it funny.
that should be on Family Feud..... The cast of Friends Vs The Cast of Living Single
Even the intro for living single is better than friends.. living single hands down the better show period

Hey, Jon Thomas. I couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching!
Best, David
Also, back then any actors would take any roles they can just to land a role on tv or film.

What is it telling about? They were working long hours on a sitcom, not watching Living Single.

Nothing phenomenal about Friends to me. Compared to Living Single, the characters were boring.
see the thing is, Living Single & Friends were both produced by Warner Bros. Television and were set in New York City

hugs, sister! waved many times when i was on the ho stroll in a stone wash mini on sunset. thanks for the gyro. god bless!
Hell I didn’t even know about Friends until after syndication so…lol
They are very similar. The biggest difference being Living Single was actually *good*
Both shows are good, but I watched more episodes of Living Single, than I did Friends.
If the show were on NBC it might’ve been a different story.
How ?
Well, know if Kim bumps into Jennifer or Courteney, she'll won't recognize them either!! lol

Oh wow that's crazy
What a lame excuses. It felt like a segregation issue.
@jimmyferris your co-worker is definitely a klansman, closeted...
The story of Friends reminds me how of Elvis Presly.
That is sad...she was like ..who s this Black person... security!!!!
Let's be honest this is something that happened a lot with hit TV shows. The difference is Living Single was never acknowledged properly.
It's alright, Kim. We know who you are.
Friends is literally the cheap watered down version of living single
Living single did it better with less seasons 🤷🏻♂️
Baby boomers weren't born in the 70s. If you’re going to be an ageist then use the right terminology. Gen-X tube.
