I hate dull knives. Some people use dull ones so much they are not used to how it should be.

Words of wisdom. I think I agree with every one of the topics you've presented here. I gift a knife (normally a folding knife) to everyone for their birthday, when I attend the party. I've been doing this for years now. Some of the people I've done this for, tell me that it's their first folding knife, and some of these folks aren't spring chickens, if you get my drift. I really enjoy videos with this type of content. Thanks for sharing this with everyone, G.

I was sitting here thinking, somewhere between $200 to $300 the law of diminishing return kicks in and you are into pocket jewelry territory and out of knife quality territory when you pretty much said the exact same thing. 😂
Also I 100% agree that there is no such thing as the perfect grind. They all excel in different areas. I remember when people were convinced that every fixed blade had to be 1/2” thick minimum for “batoning”. 🙄 I’m so glad we’re over that nonsense for the most part. 😃🤜🏼

Thanks for doing this video! I wish more people realize that all these myths are false. And I wish more people realized they should never go anywhere without a knife. I don’t carry a knife for self-defense. I’m not trained with edge weapons, so I’d probably have an easier time with my bare hands. But literally every day situations arise where a knife either saves me a little bit of time or allows me to do something that I wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise. I’m trying to get my wife to keep a knife in her purse, but she just doesn’t believe me that this is the case lol

Definitely enjoyed this. Wouldn’t mind seeing a spin-off like “Knife Mythbusters” kind of thing. For instance when people say. This edge or blade shape does this better. This knife is better for this. This steel is better than this steel in this area. etc.
Would be cool to have definitive evidence.

Another add on to the dull knife poblem; a dull knife can also fatigue the user through harder grip, and harder pushing. Additionally, the material being cut can be ruined by exerting too much pressure on a dull knife.
The myth that there is such a thing as "Reverse Tanto". This was a marketing term from Benchmade in 2000 with the release of the 940. It was used to take advantage of Cold Steel popularizing the Tanto shape and success. Find a knife shape poster or mat prior to the year 2000 with the name "Reverse Tanto" on it. You cannot. The correct shape name is Kiritsuke, also from Japan. Folks who have not been around very long do not know the history well enough, or ability to think through the illogicality of this "Reverse Tanto" nomenclature.
Pull through sharpeners work great, or a certain kind of pull through is the best, this is all myth.
The idea that some steels are garbage or no good (relative to another kind of steel). If we hold true that knives are tools, then a tool for personal protection only needs a sharp edge for doing the Devil's business. Personally I would go for toughness in this situation and one sharp edge should last a lifetime.
