the thing with the ambiguous moc/spicy white men is crazy, especially since if they casted any of these characters on a tv show or movie adaptation the "ambiguous" man would just be a pale white guy with black hair.
Also ambiguous enough that certain fans will become rabidly racist if by some miracle a MOC _is_ cast. Truly, the best of both worlds! (although, lbr, fans don't need ambiguity to be racist about casting) 🙃
She has such a warm laugh. The vibes are amazing. And what a scary but fun sounding challenge...I might have to try a smaller version of it next month!!
I was thinking of your thirty books in thirty days challenge when I decided to do half that (15 books in thirty days) to teach 100 books read this month, so happy to see you attempt this again. I’ve been curious about I Who Have Never Known Men but you definitely sold me on it!
I love the whole “I have a live show tomorrow for this book I haven’t even started yet” thing. I remember you saying you left reading books for your goodread challenge videos to the last possible moments as well and, as a chronic procrastinator, it makes me feel very validated 😂.
I may need to copy your idea of the two “buckets” for counting number of books read in a year. I feel like I’ve been holding myself from rereading multiple times in a year because I don’t know how to track it 😅 but as a comfort rereader there’s things I gravitate to over and over!
That is funny because I also read I Who have Never Known Men last month and I tried and stalled on The Deep Sky. I did find the duel timeline adding a bit of friction to my reading experience. But ultimately I think I have a problem of suspending disbelief with near-future SF. I did read The Practice, the Horizon and the Chain by Sofia Samatar which I absolutely loved and I thought was a really interesting double bill with I Who have Never Known Men.
@@kristenhaynes4343 I not one to usually rave about prose style. I'm very much a genre girlie. But her prose had such clarity and economy, I feel in love with it.
So glad you enjoyed Deep Sky! I read the author's sophomore release The Stardust Grail earlier this year and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Definitely a favorite!
Nobody will fault you, if you decide, that When the Moon Hatched counted for 2 books! The pain alone should qualify. 😂 Edit: I was wondering, when the "Arab sheikh" and/or "Italian Mafia Boss" would enter the realm of romantasy! 🙅🏾♀️🙅🏾♀️🙅🏾♀️
I haven't committed to reading I Have Never Known Men yet, but again its now popped up in my timeline again. You have me even more intrigued. I didn't watch the Mummy video, but I'm on it right now. 😛
I also feel like I started to see it mentioned more recently and bit the bullet. It is the kind of book that is an experience so love it or hate it, I feel confident recommending it just for that.
I absolutely hate the racial ambiguity trend in SJM-coded romantasy books. It always feels so gross and scammy, especially when the character is described in other prejudicial ways. Most of the time it adds to the fetishization of brown men without any meaningful racial commentary or inclusion
Exactly this! Seeing white women argue online about how brown the ambiguous brown man from their terrible romantasy actually is is my villain origin story.

You are right and you should say it.
I cannot explain how much I appreciate that you post the trigger warnings for each book along with it. Thanks for everything!

Mari? Her laugh is THE BEST. Instant mood boost. ❤
The Deep Sky sounds intriguing, Im adding it to my TBR.
It was one of my favourite books last year. Amazing.
So happy to hear that you loved I who have never known men. It is my favorite book of all time and I think about this book honestly every single day.
It's one I can definitely see myself rereading and becoming a favorite of all time. I also haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

Good luck on your reading challenge! I love that we are both trying to reach that 100!!

I try to fight my procrastination, and it's like my brain just doesn't know how to start things early. Stress deadlines ONLY.

I second "The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain"!! Such an intriguing read!!

yeah, not sure what happened! It sounded normal when I was editing, but who knows what I did.

I want to read that one soon, and I feel like I'll be following Kitasei's career from here!

So happy you liked I Who Have Never Known Men! It's my favorite book that I read this year
I was waiting for these vlogs! Watched before work with my boyfriend and he's hooked 😂
lmao that's the cutest thing. Tell him I'm reading away and will see him soon 😂
I really enjoyed “The stardust grail,” so I’ll have to check out “The deep sky”
I'm glad to hear that people also enjoyed The Stardust Grail because I want to get to that one, too!
I love your vlogs. You convinced me to place a request for I Who Have Never Known Men on Libby
Yessss, I hope that you get a good reading experience out of it.

I love the toy and miniature museum in Kansas City it's so amazing. Check it out if you haven't before!
I haven't, but it's now on my list!
I thought the mummy video was hilarious 😂
I appreciate you!! I was drying when I saw my subscribers going DOWN.
audio is really quiet. just me?
Someone else mentioned it too! Not sure what happened
