Nicely built, but performance is disappointing. Seems like it needs a couple more revisions to fix those continuity, resistance and NCV. And yeah, it's kind of embarrassing to point out, but the tip IS a bit shorter than average. It might be difficult to, erm, penetrate the outlet properly to, erm, get a reading. 😳
Even though this one isn't a good example, I do like this form factor for ncv testers partly because most of these give you a battery indicator to show how it is working. Important for a ncv tester, anything else is a bonus.
Thorough review as always. Something about pen multimeters doesn't appeal to me. I like my clickity clackity rotary switch. I do keep a Klein NCV tester in my bag at work. It has a built-in Infrared thermometer. For NCV testing pens are great. If this doesn't do that well I think most people will pass on it.
I also bough this pen type multimeter. It's the cheapo Aneng A3002. Modified it by adding a red led alert on ncv live test. It is very usefull for electrical works like when checking and repairing electrical network at our house. Small n easily put it inside our toolbag. True rms ( mostly only use Volt, ncv n live test, other functions r bonus). Rarely bring good "electronic" multimeter anymore for common electrical work. Good Toy for only us$5 :D, better than A3004 u've reviewed. Keep on testing! keep buying cheap accurate meters as long as we know safety limitation of our meters!
I love pen based ergonomics, not so much for putting in pocket, but when checking circuit, do not require to switch your head to see multimeter screen every time. And when not on our desk, do not need any surface to put multimeter, just two hands. When I first find out, I thought why this has not went mainstream and still thinks sometimes. I use RELIFE DT-01 on daily basis.
Thanks for the review. I ordered one out of curiosity... Have not received it yet tho... Maybe should have skipped this one... Aneng has similar size/feature pen multimeters too. Would appreciate it if you could review them.
Slow continuity is indeed a bummer, but sadly that's a common thing in many mustimeters I've tested. The other thing you don't mention is a lack of a diode tester. Useful when checking for shorted semiconductors. But for a pocket size portable tool it's nice enough, has a little light to check fuses, backlit display and takes AAA batteries, which are easier to find than 9V. There's also an option to also turn off the auto off feature, which really annoys me as the time is too short!
Great job with the review, quite a niche market for these things though with the limited functionality for electronics and not really the safety ratings for electrical.

Hehe..yes and they say SIZE isn't everything! That short tip definitely affects performance 😃

I agree, I really like the ergonomics on this meter. Not to big or small and a perfect sized display ..
perfect for a shirt pocket...if only the ncv worked better!
@@ericbaker1200 So true! 👍

So true..that lackluster NCV ruined the day !

Great points my friend! I'll have to check out the Anengs again. Keep On Testing 👍
VALT = short for Voltage Alert?.. Nice review! 👍
Now that makes sense 🤔👍

That DT-01 gas a great tip something this BSIDE is definitely lacking. I agree, these can really be great test instruments if designed well.

Let us know what you think when it arrives! Aneng PMs on the way 👍

Good points Carlos..the lack of diode range is especially problematic as this would have given the Z1 a definite boost in usability!
Another good review of a multimeter!
Thx Krasimir! 👍
Hi Darren. Hope you review BSIDE Z5 after fourth update.
Fingers crossed 🤞
What's deference in Bside z1 or z2 pen tester
agree Darren, nice display, unfortunately not with the performance...

Roger that 👍 Functionality wise this BSIDE just misses the mark.
Nice, thanks video.
Thanks 👍
VALT means FALL in Dutch according to google translate.
Oh my! 😃 Well better than FAIL I suppose !

Hi Dexter. 😄 Roger that !
Like most of these pen meters its not ready for prime time, only marginally functional - money's better spent elsewhere, display was the best feature.
Yep...no NCV err VALT , no can do!
first .. hehe
