@Amalgamaite the two previous temples stood 600 feet to the south of the dome of the rock mosque. Dr Ernest Martin discusses this in his book "The Temples That Jerusalem Forgot." Bob Cornuke also expounds upon this topic and "piggy backs" on Martin's book in his own book called "Temple." Both are excellent reads and solve this mystery with accurate information on the topic. Believe me, you won't be disappointed reading either one.
