You don't need 250k for astrophotography, but it would be nice. Check out my avitar of carina nebula. Taken with my trusty lil Sky Watcher ED 80 ($1500) scope from my backyard in Darwin.
Way too much work for me. Taking 50 light 50 dark and 50 bias shots. Camera makers should be designing a camera that can take a ten or whatever exposure and thats no 150 exposures is needed.
