@@hengzhou4566 I think you misunderstood. I am aware there is Pride/Patriotism in having the id card. But when you are talking about shopping on TaoBao, surely there is no "Pain" incurred? There may be difficulty, inconvenience and extra form filling, etc., etc., but no "Pain".
as a foreigner (without this card) everything I do is harder and takes longer, at least double the time if I'm lucky, maybe more if I'm not. I am constantly having to switch visas as most are only good for about one year. this costs a lot of time and money, whereas the five-star card I can get is good for 10 years. I can't buy imported goods from taobao. I have needed special items from my home country and have just had to go without them (until I met my husband and he helped!). I can't directly board trains by just swiping my passport like Chinese people can do with their IDs, I have to wait in very long lines so I always have to factor in more time before the train departs. I have been turned away from staying in hotels because they aren't sure how to process foreigners' passports (it's never due to discrimination, and always has to do with the paperwork side of things). This has been especially difficult when traveling in remote areas. One time I was turned away from multiple places in one day due to being in a place that rarely saw foreigners pass through. The place that finally took me was the most expensive in the area. RIP my bank account. Functions on apps are limited for me regarding payments (think transfers, sending money abroad). Some things I try to pay for while out and about (or online sometimes) require a mainland ID and there's no other way to pay. and hopefully you don't need to get a new passport number while in China because that means everything you've ever registered for needs to be changed. and you have to go in person to do it all (ask me how I know lol). and there's way more. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk!
@@beeroseinchina Thank you for taking the time to elaborate and quote incidences/examples. Yes, I can see the extra steps foreigners have to take, especially travelling in rural areas. But I am surprised that even "foreigners" married to locals do not have special visas like a "dependent" visa and still have to apply for the yearly visas. But now, to encourage more foreign tourists, I see China is more relaxed in its procedures for visa applications. Used to have to submit pages of forms. China is also more accepting of international credit cards (eg., the International Alipay ) and the use of cash ... but these are probably in the major tourist cities. Good luck in getting your 身份证. "Good things come to those who wait."
@@beeroseinchina In fact, not much luck is needed; if you submit all the required materials, you will most likely get it. The idea that getting a green card is difficult is actually a misconception. Because of this misconception, many eligible people don't even bother to apply, which contributes to the ultra-low acceptance rate. I am speaking from real experience. 😁
@@charliewang2906 you are absolutely right. I will make sure I prepare everything with love and care and should have good news to share with everyone in 2025 🎉 thanks for the confidence boost! I have been dreaming about getting it for many years!

Congratulations! I like the 2pac song at the end, we as Australians just got 15days visa free travel to China, so will be traveling again to China very soon.
thanks for the info!! I am totally new to buying baby/toddler shoes 🤣 glad we are getting a reasonable price! plus, the ones we got are so cute, comfy, and breathable! as long as my son is happy haha. thanks for watching!!! ✨️✨️✨️
I’m an American married to a lady from Guangzhou. She has this ID card and a Chinese passport. We’ve been married for just two years and are much older than you and your husband so unfortunately we have no kids together. This winter we will travel to China which will be my first time there. I can’t wait to go as it will be my first time meeting my Chinese family. I want to get one of these ID cards for myself but I’m sure it will take some time. I’m seriously thinking about moving there and having a life there too. Should I visit the Chinese consulate here in the US to apply for a marriage related travel visa and possibly this ID card? Thanks for the videos and congrats on getting the ID for your cute boy.
What do you and your husband do for money and how do you balance work and life commitments (earning/costs, time, stress, etc.)? I think many of these videos are excellent, but we also really need a video on such fundamental aspects, just like the cost of living video you did!
There was some train police officers once caught a woman having a baby in her arm, in a train across southwestern China few years ago, they found her extremely calm and playing with her phone all the time without paying much attention to the baby, so they checked and found out that woman was a kid trafficker, I think the new law is being there for one, to prevent this kind of crime.
Soo nice, cannot get for our kids, our kids didn't fully qualify to be both Swedish and Chinese so no travel document, and no ability for them to choose later, maybe ok but also a problem 😅
Congratulations you two. Our former finance minister Peter Costello once encouraged Australian to have 3:) He famously had a slogan to encourage Australians to "have one for mum, one for dad and one for the country".
I do not understand. What is the PAIN you had to suffer without the id?? Surely this is an exaggeration?
这叫认同感。你没有生活在这样一个伟大的国家,所以你不懂的。
I don’t understand you either, peace

Congrats. What a lovely family!
China has the world's largest populations and relatively limited resources, so there are strict restrictions on immigration.
China is doing selected immigration, not,I repeat not as EU have done, causing the rise of extreem right...
Now the second largest in terms of populaiton
Wow, finally, Congrats!!
Congratulations!!!😊
i have just got my Q visa, and waiting for my Permanent residence permit,,,good luck ..Peace and JaYoe
congrats on your Q visa, and good luck getting your five-star card as well! 加油 to us both! hahha

Yes, if there is a way to earn USD with remote work while living in China, you can live very comfortably
很多中国人怀着美国梦,你一个美国人怀着中国梦这也太可爱了。祝你们一家人在中国生活永远幸福快乐!

Every time you buy stuff in the mall (especially kid's stuff, like toys, clothes, etc), you get ripped off. But that's part of the experience 😅
totally agree with you!!! that's why I find what I like in the mall, and then buy it online hahaha
