    It's probably organized because more people are on motorcycles.

      Because most of it are not big enough to make a headline. Some verbal exchanges filled with curses are definitely there but then, not enough.
      Local there, experience talk.

      You get used to it. Just drive slowly in 1st or 2nd gear. We have worse road conditoins in India.

    It all works smoothly because the moving public have grown up with giving way gently to all. Speed is not a factor here. Crossing the road is easy as they decide to go in front of you or behind you, depending on how close they are to you. Never walk backwards. They are not prepared for that, and never run....

    That isn't even bad. They drive like 5-10mph in the city. That's like riding a bike around at a state fair event. Most of you scared because people in America and Europe don't care about others and don't have common sense to flow with traffic. People over there do try to avoid hitting others where as in America they would try to hit you just to sue you and say you was j-walking.

      It was more dangerous with me crossing in London and cars flying round a one way (so not expecting it) than VT but the security lady had a bad peg after a week because of an accident so it does happen a lot

      Exactly, people in the west are not skilled and have no sense of traffic at all. Even when walking they are like zombies. No feel for speed and space... Vietnam traffic flows much better.

    There is nothing "organised" about it. It's all "me first" and that's all there is to it. With the resulting chaos, you cannot possibly go much faster than 40 km/h. Still, many try. In my whole life in my home country, Belgium, I've seen a dead person on the street just once. In Vietnam, i saw 11 in only 5 years, plus a great number of unconscious or badly injured people. It's no organised chaos, it's just pure, antisocial, "me first" uncompromising selfishness with disregard for their own safety or that of other road users in general. They take huge risks carrying their children on their motorbike too; not to mention exposing them to extreme pollution. It took me two years to fully adapt to it, which wasn't helped by an unreliable Hanoi motorbike rental agency that gave me dangerous and unreliable bikes. Western newcomers get accidents all the time, because their expectation pattern is completely off. My advice is to find other ways of transportation, rather than to romanticize this dangerous chaos. You don't even need busy traffic: i had an accident on a deserted 4-lane road late at night , with only 3 people driving there. As I approached, one of them took off from the right side, and turned left without looking, thereby forcing me to go left too. Then another guy was approaching from the left, breaking every rule and not even looking around. He hit me in the side, with only the 3 of us there on an otherwise deserted road. The Viets don't give a fuck about their own or your safety, so use public transportation only, and taxi's if you must. forget all the nonsense about Minsk motorbikes too: they are unreliable, smelly and polluting, and you can't find fuel for them anymore, nor can you have them repaired everywhere. It has become granddad's bike, so don't believe the romanization of travel guides. If you really must get a bike, get a Honda wave 110cc. It's more than fast enough, very durable, uses very little fuel, and is indestructible.

    • @jutjub22
      @jutjub22 5 місяців тому

      Exactly opposite, they are very tolerant and no ego in traffic, it just flows. Good sense of traffic, a lot of understanding and skill as opposed to Europe and west where two cars can make traffic jam. In Belgium there are not many bikes, if they had this many, half would be dead :). If you check accident statistics, Belgium is worse. Vietnam had about 6K death traffic accidents in 2022 and Belgium 500, with 10 times less the population and much less vehicles, especially bikes, factor of 40 or so (Vietnam has 45million+ motorbikes alone).

      @@jutjub22 sorry but that is complete nonsense, your numbers are way off and you have no idea about cycling in Belgium.
      And tolerant? If it's a complete jungle where there are no rules, then your only option is not to make a fuss when somebody breaks the rules, or else you'd be fighting 100% of the time.

    • @jutjub22

      @@karelvandeschoor6313 what nonsense, check stats, what is wrong, data is there?
      I drive in EU and also I ride in Vietnam and Thailand. Here rules are not followed blindly when drivers understand each other, that is more important. I like it. Not many complete stops, jams, waiting, it flows.

    • @karelvandeschoor6313

      @@jutjub22In Belgium, in all my life i have seen 1 person dead on the street after an accident. In Vietnam: 11 in 5 years, and that is not counting the numerous seriously injured or comatose people, plus a great many lightly injured people. Every Saturday night in Hanoi you pass by at least one accident that has just happened, and you see a lot of drunken driving and even racing. People who say the streets of Vietnam are just as safe as those of Belgium are dreaming. Not many jams? There are traffic jams each and every day, i even had to move away from HCMC because i was getting chronic bronchitis from breathing exhaust gasses in traffic jams. If you say there are not many traffic jams you're talking nonsense.
