Tbh I don’t think he became that different, he just seemed more mellowed out & spacey as the show went on, which I think was supposed to signify his mental health & addiction spiraling due to the issues w his mom & figuring out his sexuality . Although, the change from his s3 self to s4 self is astonishing when you take into account how desolate he was in the beginning of s3 to finally being his true self in s4!!
