I'm right there with you as well. If I bought a dress or something for an event it's mine to keep or I may donate it down the road but I would never keep the tags on and return it. I do know people that do that though. Never felt right about that it is dishonest to me

I won't hire an amateur to do certain home repairs, like electrical or roofing. Our neighbor was the neighborhood handyman & he did a great job with painting, carpentry, etc., for a reasonable price. But we only used professionals for more dangerous repairs.

I agree, especially the sock darning. That sewn spot is uncomfortable. I agree with everything you said. Being careful with our finances should not mean being uncomfortable, not clean, or consuming questionable or unhealthy foods. I will always find the best price for something I want. Online makes this so easy. I see the same product, with the same picture from different sellers, and I will look for the lowest price and free shipping.

You've covered a lot ground in the examples you've given. There are definitely lines that cross over into being cheap as opposed to frugal.
    Things I won't do:
    * Apply for grants that should rightly go to people who would benefit from them far more than I would, even if I would quality.
    * Plagiarize others' work to get ahead. I taught university-level tech writing and research methods for years. I have strong opinions about this.
**Condiments: I bring home all condiments that come with the meal. I use whatever is fresh, like salsa, at home. Anything sealed goes into a box to take to the "free pantry" down the road.
**Tips: Any discounts we receive, such as my husband's military discount, we use to supplement our server's tip. My father was career military, my mom a cold war widow. Believe me, military families earn those discounts,. We choose to pass those onto other working people.

Same here, our older daughter was a server at several restaurants in her younger years and she had very similar experiences to your daughter. She would always go above and beyond and that really hit her hard when either she wouldn't get a tip or it would be way less than she thought it would have been for a large group. And she had definitely her share of mean diners

Same here. I have never been to a food bank and we've really never had a need to go to one. We're able to make things last to be frugal with what we have. I would much rather leave that for the people who really need it. That is not me.❤

Yes, we would not give up any of our pets to save money. We are lifelong dog people, my husband loves our goats and I do too. And we've had chickens since our children were young. In fact we have new baby chicks for the spring season. So that's just how we live.❤😊

When our children were young and I did thrift store shopping unbeknownst to me I made the mistake of bringing home a particular bag of clothes what I didn't know was the bag had bed bugs in it. We had to pay $10,000 to get rid of all the bed bugs it was a horrible experience. It was a nightmare. They overtook our home and we had to get rid of some of our furniture at that time cuz we couldn't get them out. Exterminators come in it was just a horrible experience That cured me from thrift store , yard sales anything like that, would never go back.

My daughter and son-in-law brought me a leather couch and matching loveseat & teak coffee table that they found curb side. It went well with the area rug, I found on top of our locked dumpster at work. No critters, stains and they lasted for years. FYI. The area rug is a rare high end limited edition worth over $16k used. We still have it. Even though I will freecycle, I won’t dumpster dive.

Many years ago I do remember writing to a manufacturer or to to ask for coupons but I quickly lost interest in that. Once again I was a busy mom with young children and that was just more than I needed to do. I felt like if I just followed the sales at the stores and bought things less expensive and lost leaders, things at a discount I would do far better. Coupons always had a tendency to make me buy things I didn't need

Totally agree with your opinion on reselling. I started my own reselling business in 2020 when my company closed due to the pandemic. Now I work from home, set my own schedule and earn more than I did working for someone else, but the downside is my inventory takes up a lot of space. It's definitely not for anyone who wants to declutter.

I tend toward quality versus quantity. I purchase gluten-free items like grains organic from Azure Standard. A friend stated it's so expensive. But if comparing organic with non organic prices not comparable. Another thing a large sale at Bombas socks. I purchased quite a few pairs due to comfort. A friend stated they are so expensive. Too me buying quality means it lasts much longer. I don't go to yard sales or dumpster diving due to safety. I have always been super picky on food sanitation and food quality. I have always tipped well and people that do work for me are paid well. I don't need to go to food bank due to keeping a nicely stocked pantry. I know many people that try to get everything for free and take advantage of the situation. An example is a lady went to Lowes. They mixed several gallons of paint. She said she didn't like the color so they marked them down. She went and got them and purchased at reduced price. To me that was wrong and cheating the store.

Many years ago I tried to sell things on ebay. They were never things I bought to resell, they were things that were given to me or things around my home that I no longer needed. I never wanted to be that person that purchased things tried to fix them up and resell them I just don't have that kind of time or energy to put into something like that. After a while it wasn't profitable for me. It took too much time and energy and I barely made any money. Not for me

I’m not one to turn off lights. They’re all LED now and cost virtually nothing to run. I hate walking into someone’s house and they have one low lit light on because they’re “saving money”. No. No you’re not. Maybe .02 a day. Turn on the lights ! Especially in the winter. Now, I don’t leave them on all over my house. But if I’m back and forth between the kitchen and living room, I keep the lights on.

True. My son used to get McDonald’s every Friday and he never asked for ketchup because he doesn’t use it but if they put it in his bag, he’d bring it home to me. Some McDonald’s won’t give anything extra unless asked for it and so just give it to you. Same with extra napkins. I don’t ask for anything I don’t use right then and there but I do save extra napkins in our glove box because sometimes we’ll get no napkins with a fast food order. ( and we rarely eat that anyway ) but yes, I see what you’re saying.
