"Uncut Gems" is really good, but "Good Time" is a masterpiece.
Juan I agree
I think it's vice versa, they are about to grow with every movie
Agreed. Such amazing cinematography. Such amazing story plots. I dont know why they havent won an oscar yet
@Parker Cherry I respectfully disagree. I find Uncut Gems much better paced, with he anxiety factor very deliberate in execution. The movies main character was much more fleshed out and realized in comparison to Connie. Not that Connie was underdeveloped, I just felt Ratner had much more reasons for why he did the things he did.
You're right, the anxiety of it is for sure alienating a large portion of the audience, but it's so potent, powerful, real and present within their universe. When a film makes me feel scared for someone else, the writing is for sure on point.
I agree. Also Pattinson’s NYC accent was better than Sandler’s. I know Sandler is from NY but he hammed it up way too much. The only other non American actor that can do a great NY accent is Colin Farrell in Pride and Glory. Sometimes I can’t believe how bad Tom Holland’s NYC accent is but maybe I’m just particular bc I’m from there.
Such an incredible film. After seeing it I really felt like that's how people must've felt when Taxi Driver had just come out. It's game changing.
After seeing this, I immediately thought it was more similar to Taxi Driver than any other film. Honestly, I enjoyed it more than Taxi Driver as well.
Me too.
Fine movie, idk about all that though. 1st half is great, 2nd loses quite a bit of steam.
I think the only real comparison between Taxi Driver and Good Time is that it's New York at night. They're both extremely gritty films, but in completely different ways. If you have to compare it to a Scorsese film the aptest comparison would be Mean Streets. Taxi Driver deals way more with generational themes like PTSD, the boom of the porn industry, rampant urban crime, and virtue. Mean Streets is less excessively nihilistic and more focused on smalltime crooks making stupid mistakes. I watched Good Time and Mean Streets through the same lens: the main character's actions will catch up with him. No matter how many people Connie lies to, beats up, abuses or charms, his actions inevitably catch up with him. The same with Johnny Boy: he spends the movie being basically "in charge" of every situation he finds himself in, until the penultimate scene where the universe has basically decided that it's time for him to pay.
anyway you probably havent seen mean streets fuck you
"Good Time" >>>> "Taxi Driver"
and with less obscenity/toxicity
Ben did a great job acting in this movie as well. Especially in the first scene of the movie
Such a underrated acting, very well play

Yes. His character broke my heart, especially that first scene. I actually cried. Powerful flick
@@mycatrocks93 same ive never cried so early in a movie
Ben Sadie's acting in this film is phenomenal for a guy who is mostly a director. He matches Pattinson (a world class actor) beat for beat in the film. I hope these guys just continue to wow with their films for years to come
When I started watching the film, I stopped it and googled who was playing Rob's brother. Don't get why more people arent talking more about his great performance.

So true
Rob just sitting there quietly rocking makes him look insane
I noticed that and also that his eyes seem dilated. Hope he's okay.
He's....................... Batman
No pay attention.. its social interactions happening Rob dosent want to engage the angsty energy of the sadie brother to the left of him. This is my opinion but I think the brother to the left is somewhat of unsure Robert on how to think of him socially.
@@haloed-hero go way, please
The body language of the anxious.
I unironically find benny so attractive and endearing. Hes so so so talented! I love him ! So glad he was in oppenheimer
This movie was simply incredible. These guys are going to be a powerhouse name as they release more movies in the future. Uncut gems is already hitting a home run. LOVE when these on point directors crop up and DELIVER us incredible films in a time where cinema has deteriorated
SO do i it's AMAZING isn't it when they DELIVER i just LOVE it SO much

Benny had me in real, heart-rending tears with the role he played. I desperately needed to find a place to say that, so here it is. These guys are phenomenal.

@@Celine12347 Sounds like fun. Thanks!
W. I’m a fan. I will not be surprised if Benny Safdie ends it up with Academy’s best screenplay, best director and even a best supporting actor in his career. In my eyes they’re legends in the making, but Ben has that acting factor to go along with his talent behind the cameras.
Literally a perfect movie with perfect performances and a perfect screenplay. Even stuff like the dude taking the painkillers more than once. Like, in so many movies things happen - like someone taking painkillers - and then that's it. It's never shown or mentioned again. There were so many small, nice touches like that which elevated the film above the great movie it would've been has there not been such attention to detail.

Rob Pattinson seems like a fun guy to work on a project with.
Man I want to just sit down in a pub with this trio and talk film all day.
That would be amazing.
I wish I could do that with a lot of actors and musicians.
Top marks to the interviewer, great questions and led the flow of the discussion. Don't know his name, hard to actually find out but deserves a mention
Ian O'Rourke totally agree, interviews like these are hard to come by honestly
Thats weird i felt the opposite... The tone from the Bros are high but when he asked questions they're all became quite... Rather than talk in their terms he changed the topics like completely which spoiled the enthusiast...
I think that's good for an interview though, not good for a conversation but with interviews you want to cover a wide variety of topics in a short amount of time and I think he did it well; asking the Safdies questions on the origins of the movie, switching to Rob for his character's creation then back to Ben for his character
Such an amazing and visceral film, definitely my favorite of the year so far.
All the character development sure paid off, Rob is incredible in this breathtaking film.
Rob is awesome omg
Nothing can make me quite as anxious as watching a Safdie Brothers film. Both Good Time and Uncut Gems had my heart racing the whole time.
0:55 "Greater than a superhero movie. Greater than CG. It's showing you something money CAN'T buy" Exactly! They made a movie 10x more gripping than a bullshit Avengers movie without having to rely on 10 big name actors and without a $200,000,000 budget.
I think with the experience they built from the last movie to this was brilliant. They came very close to how manic situations like that can be. Would love to see where they go from this. Rob is also very talented in this role. I would really love to see him continue with such challenging characters. Bravo well done!
Turns out where they went from this was Uncut Gems, by far the highlight of their career imo. Seen it?
Totally agree it feels like every movie they do teaches them how to do the next one

One of my favorite parts of Safdie films is how they’ll bring in such carefully written/played characters and then forget about them for most if not the rest of the movie, just so real
I fucking loved this movie so much, both Rob and Benny were flawless. The aesthetic nights, the colours and the grainy visuals are so crazy good.
Such a brilliant film! Just watched it on Netflix. Masterpiece ❤️
These guys owe alot to Rob Pattinson. No Rob means no Good Time which means no Uncut Gems. Crazy how just a pic from the Heaven Knows what motivated him call them up. They must've thought it was a miracle or destiny or some shit.. or that he was crazy lol
Love you Robert so much. Keep up the great work baby.
I just love Robert Pattinson ❤♥💕
Geez i love this movie, watched it for the 3rd time last night.
Phenomenal performance from both of these gentlemen. I was blown away! Wish I watched it when it first came out!!!
I was getting confused why one of the brothers was talking about acting in it - it took me a while to realize that was him! I didn't recognize him 🤣
It was the unibrow lol
Excellent movie, Rob is fantastic in this piece
this guys are awesome so much passion about their art!
These guys are so committed to their craft it's fucking inspiring
The movie was so damn good!
That was a good movie 👍🏾
brilliant.

id also be shy to show my chin next to that bat-chin over there
Fantastic film and I had no idea it was Pattinson in the movie until I saw the credits , he was brilliant
Omg I never knew they directed too! Incredible talent. Rob was transfixing and completely lost himself in the character
the guy who played robs special needs brother is great actor.
@@user-mb9nm7bq5e yes totally agree
I love that they kind of borrowed the same process that Mike Leigh uses when planning his movies and working with his actors in that they actually plotted out the characters from birth up until you see them in the movie
The safdie’s are the new Tarantino
This is a fucking incredible interview.
I want them to reunite for another movie 🥺
Rob ❤😍😍😍😍😍😱😘
I didn't understand y Rob runs away with bottle.but I loved the way he was trying to get his brother out.robert love from India
i was thinking the same thing but i guess its nothing mind bending, he just totally lost it at that point
It was filled with the liquid LSD they were trying to sell.
yes that i know lol, but the guy said he'll buy it for 15k, maybe connie knew he will try to steal it from him?
i think he realised from the whispering and the long pause he was going to end up getting robbed or killed if he stayed
stan1ey thank you
so incredibly distracted by how uncomfortable those stools look,,,
Why did Benny say that Nick would not have liked his brother embracing him in the elevator?
I love it
i wish this was robs first movie i ever saw
Robert my actor preferite ❤️
But what about their second one?

Robert is so modest. He seats behind those two crazy-energized brothers-directors. They talk all the time and needs to learn how to slave they egos. Ask Rob.
They’re talented, interesting film makers who are receiving well-deserved mainstream recognition. Let them enjoy themselves. Robert has clearly been through the motions with that whole media world and nothing about it phases him anymore... it’s simply part of the job for him.
It’s their movie so they are really the people to ask
The director makes the film. He/She is the forerunner. They can talk as much as they want.

I might be in a minority here, I absolutely love their films good time and uncut gems are pretty fucking great but I don't like their score in either films. I get what it's supposed to be but come on it can be better. It's the only thing I don't like about their films
"Good Time" should be called panic as genre.
Gonzalo Saavedra I feel like uncut gems is very similar in that regard
@@kiara800 indeed, although "Good Time" had that anxiety from one night goal to all cost
Agreed. It reminded me of a grind house film. Maybe we can call it panic grind?

It would be kind of insane if Robert Pattinson got awards for his performance in this film. Even Benny.
Amazing how a movie can be so amazingly detailed but still fulfill the mission of making the audience question. I have never watched a movie that left me with so many questions but also made me feel so complete at the same time. These movies create a greater conversation about literally anything and everything.

This is basically GTA on acid and it's an absolute delight!
The way they talk about the character development and the amount of detail that they put in the story before the audience even gets a glimpse of the characters just goes to show the effort that the directors went through to make the story look natural. The movie gives the illusion that this is happening right in New York right now. All the respect to the directors I hope I can enjoy another masterpiece by you guys after uncut gems. I can’t wait!

fantastic film and a fantastic interview, thanks
I have the biggest crush on benny
I'm interested in reading what Connie's backstory is
Oh wow, when I watched the film I had no idea one of the directors played Nick. His performance was amazing.
I wonder if they portrayed intellectual disabilities authentically and accurately
12:31 i wonder why benny laughed at The Rover
Ive been so traumatized with Robert Patterson performance in Twilight i swore him off as a terrible actor. 1st film ive seen with him and i was impressed. Benny's performance really impressed me too! Had to look for an interview of him cause i needed to see how he really spoke!
BATMAN
Movie is interesting. Like a light version of the movie “Requiem for a Dream”. (2000). Very tough film . Who feels that there is something similar between those 2 movies?
I'd say it was more like 'After Hours'
Does have the same anxiety and energy to it.
Benny killed it in this movie!
