Yes they share the same platform, engine and transmission, which is why i said it just like I'd say a ghost is a rebadged 7 series because it shares the same platform

      To be fair the Countach sucks when it comes to speed. Zero traction, takes a while to get the engine up to speed (in modern days that is), takes corners like a truck and overall they are really unsafe at high speeds. Not to mention the hp loss it suffered from over the past 40+ years. So yes, the Countach really isn't that fast anymore unless we count the QV or the 25th Anniversary.

    real good point you talk about
    We've gotten used to powerful cars, and it's the same with fitness. A well-built body from 30 years ago that looked amazing in movies back then now seems ordinary because there's a large number of people who go to the gym and look great.
    And with cars, besides power, there's another issue...comfort. Sports cars have become so well soundproofed that you don't even feel like you have over 500 horsepower under the hood. In the '70s Porsches and Jaguars you mentioned, you could hear every component of the car. Now, in an M5 or AMG GT, it's perfect, you even get seat massages. So sporty, right? XDD

      Very true, most cars even with more power really dont seem as fast anymore

    • @PraiseTheRoof
      @PraiseTheRoof 11 днів тому +5

      I don't think the reason movie starts from back in the day seems ordinary now is because more people work out, as much as it's almost every Hollywood actor now using some form of steroids, although the end result is much the same effect. A great example of this is to compare Pierce Brosnan's and Daniel Craig's iterations of James Bond.
      In much the same vain, cars have been taking on steroids for quite a lot of years, to the point where anything with less than 300bhp is often considered 'regular traffic'.
      The hyper-individualism that's so rampant in society today, where everyone thinks they have to be "the star of their own movie" in turn also leads us to try and emulate what we see on the big screen, be that increasingly fast and expensive cars or unnaturally obtainable bodies.

    I remember just 10 years ago, if you had over 200hp on a normal car. It would be considered as a fast car. Then came the hybrids, VW GTE Golf with over 220hp is actually NUTS when most normal golfs had under 140hp. I had an Audi TT 2016 a couple years ago. I loved it, 230hp stock on a light car like that was a dream to drive. It was fast at the time, but with a 0-100 km/h time at just 6 seconds is pretty lackluster nowadays. Especially with electric cars. My Tesla model Y has OVER 400HP. It's completely insane that this many HP is accessible for most people now. BUT, the power is boring. There is no life to the power it so i stopped caring about it. But the point stands, when a normal family SUV had between 180-220hp not long ago and now it's more then doubled... I love the development but it's pretty crazy when most high powered cars earlier were mostly for enthusiasts and people who KNEW how to drive it.

    Companies have managed to sell HP and 0-60 numbers as either the fun factor or prestige factor in modern cars.
    You cant really sell "this car is 20% more fun to drive then the previous one" and sadly many people fall for it.
    The only upside: it leads to funny situations where a "performance SUV" gets toasted by a 2 decade old hot hatch on a few turns.

  • @zephr147
    @zephr147 10 днів тому +5

    I think the biggest part of this power creep is that the car industry was always set on making new iterations of every model, like VW with the golf and when people upgrade to a newer model they expect every part of the newer model to be better, including the power of it. So over time with more and more newer models coming out, the power just crept up further and further even if not necessary. If the car industry would be more focused on releasing a completely new car every time, I dont think this would be a thing now, considering they can just call it something else and thereby not have people looking at it as an upgrade but as something entirely new.

    Imagine what would happen if you inadvertedly press down on the gas pedal more than you should while parking one of these hp monsters in a parking lot or while cruising around in a urban area with a lot of traffic or simply driving up a steep ramp on a building, and your vehicle safety system fails to adjust your command in that instance…

    • @marcolattuada5125
      @marcolattuada5125 11 днів тому +3

      Well, unless you are driving a 650 hp ev or you’re VERY slow, nothing, ice engine response is not instantaneous, especially in turbocharged engines which represent most of the vehicles, at least in Europe, so if you accidentally press the gas pedal more than you should for a split second the turbine will start spinning faster but you will not receive the power boost unless you’re so slow that you don’t even realize what you’re doing and you keep the foot on the gas. Also, the pedal response is not linear, it looks more like an exponential curve so pressing the pedal a bit more will not make a big difference. In order to get a significant power boost, you have to press the pedal a lot and for a bit longer than just an accidental “stomp”.
      I personally daily drive a 340 hp car and it’s impossible to end up in a crash starting from a situation like the one you describe

    I have a BMW E46 330 Ci. Its 3 liter 6 cylinder engine produces 230 HP, which is enough for any situation. Even better, if you'll try to drag race the car, you wanna have good tires, cause to my surprise even such "small" amount of power can easily make the rear lose traction and now you're making a slow start with burnout. My father owns a VW Golf Sportsvan with 1.4 TSI petrol engine, which produces around 125-150 HP (not quite sure the exact modification of the engine). Again, its performance is absolutely adequate for any situation on the road. The only performance issue it has, its 7 speed robotic gearbox - it can be very slow in normal mode. In sports mode it works good.
    I have a feeling that if governments would come up with actually good eco-standards and manufactures wouldn't start the war of who makes the largest SUV, maybe car emissions wouldn't become such huge problem. By "good eco-standards", I mean the ones that encourage car companies to build normal sized lighter vehicles. One of the reasons why all of them produce SUVs today, is because its actually easier to pass emission testing for a bigger car then for a small one, which is just crazy.

I never felt slow on the road. I still own my first car a 1.2 eco flex opel corsa d from 2011 with only 84 hp and I still think it is good enough if you shift it correctly although the car structure gets turbulent when it gets past the 120km/h speeds and the car is not very economical in its petrol consumption hence why I bought the diesel Mercedes

    People often ignore how much have tyre and suspension (and brake) tech advanced and how much it has meant for cornering and accelerarion, even for top speed. We don't even have to go that far back; the Veyron's tyres would last just a few minutes going 400 kph, and now we have a Chiron comfy at 489 kph, just some years later.
    And of course, electronics. Today you can make a 2 ton toaster go faster 0-60 than the fastest supercars of the 90's, and that's mad.
    People don't understand that they don't need a million hp to go to work and get the groceries. A 100hp (and less) will get you anywhere and it's even more than enough to get yourself killed. Modern driving aids have turned the general public numb and ignorant to what a fast car means. This way we have things happen like with the F40's and Carrera GT's, 'not that powerful' by today's standards, but way more difficult and delicate to drive than a 1500hp Bugatti because they lack a few electrinic aids.

    Back when technology wasn’t so advanced, you can feel every bit of the old sports cars’ personality and charisma. Moreover, back then supercar makers focused more on top speed rather than acceleration. 400HP back then always meant 186MPH+ ( 300KM/H+ )
    Nowadays, many sports cars have assists, comfort, short gear ratio, which makes mastering and taming them no longer a challenge, as well as the loss of characters.
    And it all started with the GTR R35 2007
