  • Lonnie Johnson, inventor of the Super Soaker, has made significant contributions beyond water guns.
Decades before inventing the iconic water blaster that changed summer forever, decorated scientist and former NASA engineer Lonnie Johnson had already developed a remote-control robot with swiveling parts. And he's still inventing, this time with a mission to save the planet.
Today, Johnson is invested in developing solid-state lithium batteries. These batteries offer twice the energy density of traditional lithium-ion batteries and are more efficient. Johnson’s company, Johnson Energy Storage, focuses on transforming energy storage technology. Additionally, he has invented an efficient hydrogen engine called the Johnson Thermo-Electrochemical Converter (JTEC), which has no moving parts. His ceramic battery, with three times the charge capacity of lithium-ion batteries, represents a promising advancement in energy storage that if scaled might one day lower mankind's dependency on fossil fuels.
