- It’s the early hours of March 18, 1945. The Ligurian Sea lies still, the impenetrable darkness of the skies cloaking the tense drama unfolding on the surface. Two German warships, torpedo boat TA24 and destroyer TA32, slice through the turbulent Mediterranean waters, their engines straining as they race toward the safety of Genoa. Behind them, an unseen predator lurks closer and closer, trailing like a shadow that refuses to fade in the dark.
The sailors glance back, hearts pounding. No sign of their sister ship. They know it’s gone; if they don’t outrun their hunter, they’ll share her fate. These two vessels are all that remain of the German 10th Flotilla. Their destruction will signal the end of Germany’s ability to conduct deep-water operations in the Mediterranean, snuffing out the last flicker of Kriegsmarine resistance.
As the coastline of Italy creeps closer, hope rises among the German crews. They might just make it. But then, without warning, a thunderous crash shakes TA24, throwing sailors to the deck. Panic spreads. They’ve been hit.
Imagine surviving through the war with these stories in your head? The Tin can Navy. We didn't get shot back on too much during Desert Storm. A few holes. Great video! Thank you. 😊
I have read many war accounts , lots with ghost writers ,,best one i remember was about a Huey pilot in 'Naaaaam ..i will remember the books name as soon as i post this,,
Chickenhawk ,,good book book book,,

i have chickens and i used to think they said "bok bok bok BKOK"
turns out they're actually saying "fk fk fk fkOFF"
Haunting.
British destroyers are the best and fought in many battles like this one which most of us have never heard of. It was nice hearing what medals the commanders got afterwards too!
3:00 Wow - I never knew there was a *second* "fake army" like the one across from Calais. Thank you.
Good Video. Not Nearly As Many Documentaries About The MTO As There Are About Other Battles. Thank You. (Comment #91)
actual war or movie footage beats AI, hands down.😀... narration is better, also. 🙏
You are aware that none of this footage is of the actual events discussed?
I can't believe that this age-old mistake is still alive. a century or so earlier, British sailors liked the white chickens they had in Livorno, Italy, and took some back to England. They couldn't pronounce or forot that it was Livorno, and it came out Leghorn.
And yet the commentary also gets it correct later in the video... AI error I assume 😞
Why, pray tell, do we have to align English common names to some perceived foreign root? Livorno was always Leghorn to the Mediterranean Fleet.
@@alecblunden8615 You mean "why should we call a place by its actual name, rather than one we made up"? Perhaps respect, honest, dignity? Should it really be up to us to decide what a place is called, above the choice of those who live there?
@lukestevens8735 please don't presume to tell me what I mean or try to talk down to me from your obviously questionable perspective. Calling Roma Rome has never been considered disrespectful, dishonest or undignified. Same thing goes for calling Firenze Florence Venezia Venice or al -Qahirah Cairo. I know you think your inflated ego and cultural cringe leads you to think you are entitled to display an over inflated vision of your own superiority complex. To me, you are simply displaying your insensitivity and dubious intelligence.
@@alecblunden8615 Have you asked the Romans what they want you to call their city? It's not up to us to decide what to call it. Ayers Rock, Turkey and Swaziland have all requested to be called what the locals call them. Why shouldn't we defer to the locals too?
Thank you.
You forgot to mention the Yugoslavian King was assassinated shortly after arrival.
Maybe because it's not relevant.
1:59 they had dune buggies for the Baha 1000 in 1945? (Or is that an early version of the Cyber Truck?
What were they mopping on those torpedoes??

Anyone who does not know the difference between "the island of Malta" and "Yalta" should go back school, stop posting WW2 history and go with cute cat videos instead......
It must be Ai, You are right. Malta. Yalta 😂🙃
Had the two destroyers the ability to use radar to direct their guns?
The Germans had radar, but not as early or as employed on smaller ships as the royal navy. The USA had radar but again later than the RN and the big difference was not the tech but the men, the training and the history. Unfortunately, the RN has been reduced to a shadow of its former self. The men, women, training endures, but the fleet itself is long gone.
The sea lies quietly while the boats slice thru the turbulent waters? Sorry, that one got me over adjectitated. 😀

The “marina” is where you park the boat…

Since when was Malta in Crimea? 😂😂
When, exactly, was the German navy "dominant?"
Ask Jelico
When the Battle of the Atlantic nearly starved Great Britain.
Never, they hid their surface fleet most of the war. On the other hand, their U-Boat force during their "happy times" might be considered dominant, one of the few things Churchill was severely concerned about! You can look up when 'exactly' those times were yourself!
Jelico “not on my watch”
@@intercommercethat’s right before captain Jonny Walker turned them into the hunted
How do you "sink" something THAT DID NOT EXIST?
Britain Navy created radar-based firing and Admiral Ching Lee learned it from them and perfected it.
Never heard of him, but then, China was never known for its navy..
@@intercommerce 🤣 not bad
@@intercommerce”Ching” was actually the nickname of American admiral Willis Lee. He was also an Olympic gold medalist in several shooting events. He commanded the battleship Washington when it shot up the Kirishima at the 2nd naval battle of Guadalcanal. It’s a pretty impressive story
Your both right. Ching Lee is the pg version of admiral Lee's nickname . His men actually called him Ching with a "k'sound on the end😅 because his short, thin physic ,black hair and facial features looked kind of Asian and back then racism was a little different than nowadays. Admiral Lee and his fiercely loyal and skilled crew aboard his flagship the USS Washington had the best gunnery in the USN which only improved with radar directed fire control upgrades
It sure is a story worth retelling. Admiral Lee seriously underestimated the number of hits on Kirishima that were made. The wreck showed about double the hits that he reported. I wonder how much more his knowledge would have contributed to the accuracy of naval gunfire if he had not died of a heart attack before the war's end.
What a ridiculous title
Another silly title.
Ridiculous. I only did O level history……it’s Yalta, the conference. Correct the video please.
That's a bonehead mistake.
While watching this, China adds to its fleet.

You are seriously suggesting that in March 1945, with Russian troops storming through Germany, that a torpedo boat and a destroyer were the "final shot at victory"? You fool!
They specifically said the Kreigsmarine and emphasised this was in the Mediterranean Theatre - thus it is relevent to that theatre of war - do you not unbderstand English or Geography?
