I was 18 years old when I watched in TV , the Great Olimpic Games in 1984 and also this great Lionel Richie performance of this great Finish Ceremony 😊. Great MEMORIES
This was more awesome than people know, I was at the usc Olympic village watching this on a big screen and Lionel Ritchie was on a stage, lowered down by an army helicopter, I also saw the rehearsal and we had to hold on to poles and light standards so as not to be blown away. This was the most amazing time in Los Angeles, people were united and peaceful ❤
I remember watching the closing ceremonies. Thank you for making it possible to rewatch. It was the last Olympics I was able to watch with my dad who died early in 1985
I'm convinced this was the exact moment in time ALL AMERICANS...ALL RACES AND CREEDS were united and proud to be American. I wish we could have done a better job following this. My dad taught me to be loving of all people and I hope to do the same with my kids. But I have a tear in my eye that my generation didn't do a better job in the 90's and 2000's. Maybe we can start doing a better job RIGHT NOW and the LA Olympics in 2028 should be a true celebration for generations to come.
I was living in LA during this and the atmosphere in LA was incredible. It was a great time to live there. After the Olympics were done the city started taking down the street decorations which upset a lot of people, so they left them up. It was like they were holding on to mementos of a love affair. Eventually they became too tattered and were taken down.
I remember watching these games. I remember watching the 1960 Rome Olympics in back and white with my parents. These were the last summer Olympics I would watch with my dad. Good memories memories
Thanks for posting this! I remember watching this like it was yesterday - an older girl gave me my first kiss with tongue right after this song that night lol I was 9, she was 12!
Lionel Riche Fkn ROCKS and Rolls...All Night Long ! Would wear that RED DRESS after midnight ! World's Greatest Living Dancing Millennial Poet Loves YA !
I didn’t remember the length of time. I do remember it was long but not thinking so at the time. It was a World Party! Who wants such a thing to end? Not me. This is what the Olympics meant to me. I doubt anyone was in their seat. Everyone was dancing. I remember happiness. I’m glad I found this as a reminder of an Olympics in the tradition of why it was formed. And then Auld Lang Syne. And…peace. I hope as history seems to repeat itself, that times like these can be repeated too.

1984 was the best year of the 1980s. For those of you who didn’t grow up in the 80s, it was everything you imagine it to be. Man…I miss those days
40 years ago and I remember this like it was yesterday. I moved to Los Angeles the following year, and lived in Santa monica for 30 years!
Great! I was 14years and in USA for the summer holidays from Cairo... Simply awesome.
i can feel the energy through the screen, 40 years later. Amazing
Awesome! Thanks for recording this. I remember this as a boy. Great times back then.

I still remember my dad recorded this closing ceremony via VCR. The dancer was upside down doing breakdance. It was phenomenal back then
Wow!!! Que recordação incrível! Esse encerramento foi sensacional! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is 1984. Imagine what they can produce for 2024. We want a huge party! 💙
This comment aged well
Great singer; great 80’s...
Dear humanity, we have to fight to get those days back to our lives! This what happened in Paris cannot be our future man 😢 let’s stand up!!!
Thanks for adding the bonus show at the end.

I love the Breakdancing in the chorography. Now Breakdancing will be a sport in the Paris Olympics 2024
Right...
And now it won't because of that kangaroo lady
I was in this thing!! Just turned 9 years old the week before. I was on one of the platforms doing windmills. Got sooo dizzy. Lol
It’s crazy how we all use to get along for the most part and hope for a better future together. This has the be the peak of 20th century culture.
I agree. Absolutely.

And to think this was the last time a Summer Olympics was originally broadcast on a network not owned by NBC.
Can wait for LA 2028 Olympics.

Am i the only one trying to find Cuba Gooding Jr. out there break dancing? Lol
I was 14 years old. The medal ceremony for the mens marathon preceded the closing ceremony. Great memories.
Los Angeles 84 was the first time an Olympic Committee had spent big money on opening and closing ceremonies.
Itsjemmabobd you are spot on with your comment and LA set the benchmark for future Olympic Opening and Closing ceremonies.
Can't wait for LA 2028
Great job charboy you really came thru on on this one
Now is the 40th anniversary of the Los Angeles Olympic Games

I remember too when I watched this on TV, but no one kissed me that night, you was a lucky kid
Todo el esplendor del Break Dance.
Who was the Soviet Union's equivalent to Lionel Richie? Oh wait, they didn't have one. Probably why they didn't last past 1991.
May God make it possible to give Lionel Richie strength,I would love to see the legend reliving this 1984 moments.😊
Lionel Richie: All night long!

stage like wizard of oz vibes. goosebumps
Lionel Richie is a true legend.
Lionel was a musical genius, but a sub-par stage performer.
As I recall, Lionel Ritchie and All Night Long went on for over an hour, not the 15 minutes that had been planned.

Great comment
imagine Raygun dancing here lol
At the very beginning before Dr. Huxtable wasn't known as Doctor rapey.
39 years later Lionel sings again the song for King Charles's coronation.
