Great pedal. The trick is to not play guitar licks while using this pedal. Think like a keyboard player. It takes time but the results are more than worth the work. Thanks again EH.
Thanks for this, was in search for an answer like this. I just bought the pedal and thought it sounded off when quick licks would be played on any of the settings lol.
An expression pedal to control the modulation speed would make this thing really sing and sound like a Leslie. that is the main thing a guitorganist would want, apart from a solid understanding of organ technique so this doesn't just sound like a guitar effect.
I have been an EHX pedal groupie for decades. Some are great and some.... Not. They seem to never discount an idea and that's sometimes awesome. BUT. The B series is unbelievable accurate and, for me, useable. I play a solo. Guitar, vocal with a harmonizer pedal. A drum machine but the B9 mixed low adds so much to slower heavy songs. Comfortably Numb. Turn the Page, etc. It almost takes the place of a bass. I'm really an acoustic solo singer songwriter yacht-rock player. But this pedal is awesome.... No latency!
Man, I just can't away from this pedal. Every other demo is this damn B9. I guess I need to just suck it up and get one. I have a feeling it's going to be the next classic EHX legacy I just wish they had an expression pedal input.
I run my B9 (and Mel9) into a Fender Mustang Floor amp. I use a preset with a vibratone modulation. The speed of the Leslie effect is controlled by the expression pedal on the floor amp.
I also have a Mel9 that works well with my Fender Mustang iii v2. I'm looking at both the B9 and C9 as well. I'm curious about how well the Electro-Harmonix Lester G pedal would work with the Mustang? I've seen the reviews with the Lester and the 9 series together and it was pretty good. Just wondering how well the Lester sounds with a solid state amp with the dirt turned up.
Bought one today. Beautiful sound when coupled with the other pedals. But... I have one issue, which happens to be an important one for our band: How to I get the B9 to breathe infinitely? Or a longer decay? Anybody have any ideas? my guitar is tuned to A# . .
+aidanvinum There are ways of lengthening the decay. For one thing, use an extra chorus/vibrato/tremolo/Leslie rotary after the B9, which will work better than the in-built modulation effects (I use the Leslie mode of a Digitech EX 7 Expression Factory, sounds great after the B9 and is relatively inexpensive). A compressor in front (some people put it afterwards) helps to provide the B9 with a more consistent signal. Even a booster or mild overdrive will help. Also, semi-hollow or hollow guitars tend to combine their natural feedback with the B9 sustainy organ thing in a way that can get you close to "infinite" (I had that experience once with an Epiphone Swingster, I held a doublestop till my fingers hurt and some of the B9 overtones seemed as if they would never die out! I let go after about 3 minutes). If all else fails, try an EHX Freeze pedal. It does what the name implies.
I run my B9 (and Mel9) into a Fender Mustang Floor which has a vibratone modulation pedal that can be assigned to the volume/expression pedal. I set the amp model to studio preamp so it doesn't color the tone of my deluxe reverb it feeds.
Awesome, JB! I've got an organ'ish simulator effect on my old Z00M 505 pedal, that I use to open up a show with sometimes. ...with some distortion, of course. ;-)
One thing I'd criticize is that tremolo. I know you can't do a realistic leslie but at least a more vibrato sound or closer to a leslie. Also, it would be better if you could turn off the sensitivity to be more like a real organ.
Man, that's pretty convincing, so lets say you want to start your own church, Bwaaaaaaa! John is a smooth dude but, lets face the facts ALL of the audio reviews of this parlor trick, including the official trailer sound like a hack organ player and, I am sure this is no reflection of the players themselves. I own one, save your money.
I had this pedal, and it sounds great, really amazing! But it is so hard to play it useful, it is very dynamic sensitive... Totally changes the sound if you change even so slightly attack... So - almost unusable.
I want a pedal for my organ that makes it sound like a smokin-hot PRS 11-top private-stock single-cut semi-hollow guitar!
This'd be the perfect pedal for playing stuff from The Doors!
Hi, I'm John Bohlinger and here is another guitar of mine that I own and you don't......
Just speak to Paul Reed Smith I'm sure he'll build you what you want, no problem, probably wouldn't cost you much either :-)
And you don't have a real vintage Coricidin bottle either.
I recommend putting a compression pedal before hand. It really makes the b9 pop.

When I got into guitar synths, organ & pads were the first sounds I went for. To have them in a $225 pedal is terrific.
So the pedal fucks up your tuning?
Because that's one horrendous version of Whiter Shade of Pale
Best demo of this pedal I've seen yet. Anyone used it in the studio yet??
I skipped through and stopped on about 10 different points. Talking on everyone one!
John should be the only person doing demos for PG.

Sharp and vivid footage, great! Is this a blackmagic camera? Cheers!

"So pimp man!"
Great review John!!
he's so much better as a pedal review guy than a rig rundown guy

Nice pedal. I like the sound between 7:13 and 7:59.
that pedal is a lot of fun for sure!
Fantastic review and demo.

Jim Carrey/Bruce Campbell!!! Groovy!

+aidanvinum Might be tricky, or a pain in the ass, but would a looper pedal work? Like one of those little cheap TC loopers, like $80

EHX FREEZE
+aidanvinum Add a "Sustainiac" or "Sustainor" pickup to your guitar. Works like an E-bow, will give you the infinite sustain that you're looking for.
A compressor before the B9, set to squash your guitar insanely
This with an ebow could be really cool..
great review!

FYI - it works great with a bass guitar as well.
I just know the second I buy this pedal they'll bring out one with presets, expression input and a tone control. I'm still going to buy it though.
"a way of making you suck at Whiter Shade of Pale" more like
Does this work with an acoustic electric nylon string guitar??
Awesome, JB!

That's a crazy PRS
Ace Ventura?!
YES!!!
David Cassidy
I would love to hear Green Onions played on that!
Watch the EHX official video of it.You'll hear Green Onions.
That jam at about 7 was neeeeeet!
Los awesome, need to get one for my stereo guitar rig
You don;t need to separate the signal if you're using one amp.
you talked through the entire demo. huh?
...and 2 years later you make a this guy laugh. lol
@@AdamSpadeand 2 years after that, another guy laughs. Wow. The internet is amazing.
Very late comment : i laughed !
And I'm keeping the laugh going!
Are you perhaps related to the dude?
what is the name of the song at the beginning? Thanks!!!!!!
+RUNNERBA it's the beginning of whiter shade of pale.
Holy shit, this fuckin guy is something else!

"Shut up & play the guitar!" - Frank Zappa
what prs is that???!!
hi does anyone have any good ideas on how to get a cool violin sound or cello sound though some fx???
EHX Mel9
Cool!
Kiana Shotgun =)
Where are tabs for many different songs for organ switched for guitar xdddd
Just play....don't talk.
This guy would be better suited on a soap opera
Jim Carey's stand-in. Could he co-star in Blues Brothers III?
i love anorectic guys like you

LISTEN!!! to sound is much better than speaking about sound (speak..speak.........)
Puma Rodriguez....

Use compression in the chain 1st
Lots of talking.
LMAO!!!!
Don't bother - hire a keyboard player!
lol none in my country play keyboard so i love this pedal xD
