      Everybody who dont know the English Caribbean think that all the politicians and people will be ready to lash out at the UK and the Queen. I sure that's why they interviewed here.
      Anytime she talks about major issues, especially when dealing with the UK and the Crown she is always so well balanced in what she says. And this is considering how hot headed Caribbean people and politicians can sometimes be.

    The interviewer was trying to get her to criticise the Royal Family, but Mottley expertly avoided doing that and instead praised the Royals and criticised the French! Bring up France's turbulent constitutional history, implying she didn't support former colonial powers (including France) having veto power at the UN and suggesting France should also pay reparations for its colonial history.

    Madam Mottley is very wise to remind France and the audience that slave trade wasn’t only a British practice, and that we should acknowledge the correct parties mainly politicians, merchants, lobbyists etc who made decisions and who used the monarch’s impotence in political affairs to enrich themselves for centuries and now they help feed the notion that the monarchy had direct power and control over their policies.

    • @FBISHOJI

      Slavery was a human practice even before Europeans

    • @tk-6967
      @tk-6967 2 роки тому +3

      In fact the British had to force the French, Spanish and most countries that practiced slavery in the EU to stop slave trading. They also stopped Brazil and some parts of the Middle East.

    • @tk-6967
      @tk-6967 Рік тому

      @Femme Fatale Wdym? What is OK? Are you gonna deny Britain credit for ending slavery because some Britons owned slaves? Yeah, the Mau Mau crisis and other British atrocities are bad, but are you going to suggest that that somehow means that East Africa would have preferred Arab slavery and that the Indian subcontinent would have preferred Mughal rule? It appears that the concept of relativity is an alien idea to political extremists on both sides.

    I love the way that, as a patriotic Brit, Queen Elizabeth's passing has given the PM of Barbados and other Commonwealth leaders the chance to be heard on the world stage. I also love Mia Mottley's intelligence and composure. On the matter of reparations, a part of me is sympathetic, but what about those African leaders who sold the slaves in the first place? It seems to open a can of worms which can never be resolved and would cause increasing rancour - like a new scramble for Africa, but for money. I'm sure the Chinese will be happy to exploit this.

    • @alexhinds5715
      @alexhinds5715 2 роки тому +8

      PM Mia Mottley has spoken on many high profile issues and is a leader on climate change efforts within the UN. She’s doesn’t need the Queen’s passing as a reason to be interviewed.
      Yes, African leaders should of course acknowledge and make amends for Trans-Atlantic slavery, some counties such as Ghana have done so. However, the point is that European imperial countries were the ones to profit and benefit from slavery (not only the initial trafficking of people, but the regime and institution that kept people and families in bondage for multiple generations whilst profiting from their labour and exports).

    • @jimmyhillschin9987
      @jimmyhillschin9987 2 роки тому +4

      Hi Alex. I think your first point is wishful thinking. Smaller countries really struggle to get their priorities heard let alone recognised on the world stage. That is why they must band together -hence countries like Rwanda and Gabon wanting to join the Commonwealth.
      On your second point you seem to suggest that African countries have dealt with any question of complicity in the slave trade - and that no one in Africa benefited from it. This is historically inaccurate. The Trans-Atlantic slave trade was an outrage to any idea of humanity. However the very idea of human rights came out of Europe and was implemented first by Britain in banning the slave trade, then the existence of slavery. African leaders of the time resisted this strenuously. Ironically, it was British imperial power that prevailed in eliminating it, at least insofar as it has been eliminated, because of brute force.
      The ironies of history are unending. Best wishes to you Alex.
