- Hockenheim Record! Here’s the run down of the event containing onboard video and overtakes plus insights from Max and Thomas.
Achieving the closed wheel record whilst validating the 75% power and 75% downforce mode is a great milestone as we move towards production.
Owners of the Spéirling PURE will be able to choose from setting’s either side of this: from GT3 right through to F1 mode- to match pace and run time to suit their desires.
Thanks to Dörr Group for hosting us at their annual track day. It was a privilege to take part.

Nice lap, but this music in the video is so annoying. Can you put down a video with the full lap and all the cameras without any voice over so we can enjoy and feel what it is ?
I second this. They should takes some notes from Rimac.
I agree. It should be the norm that a record lap or similar should be uploaded without any cuts between different camera angles. Also no music and just the raw sound.
And the music is way too loud compared to the voice.
Why do we need music at all, if I want music i can easily put my own as background....i want to hear the car (yes there's no engine but all the other noises are great)

@@Luilucid4733I.D.R did a 6’05 with a top speed of 170. Pretty sure this would destroy it.
@@RadialSeeker113If the I.D.R can manage a full lap with it’s 45KwH battery pack then im pretty sure this with it’s 60KwH battery can too.
Impressive car and lap, poor choice of "music" and mixing levels. We'd rather hear the car (even if electric) than loud incidental music.
Amazing rig! BUT, please turn music off when it's on track! C'mon man ..... McM sound is wild and wooly, that's all ya need.

So the lap was only done with 75% power/downforce? What could it have done in 100% mode it probably wouldnt be enough to close the gap to f1 though but I wonder how it would compare around street circuits especially monaco this thing would be insane around monaco
With 100% power/downforce, I think a 1:20 is possible, which would put it around on par with the slowest of the 2014 F1 cars.
Background music is bit loud against the narration
It'll run for 25 mins at gt3 pace, how long till the batteries flat at that pace 10 minutes?

Well.... It was only 4 seconds slower than the 2014 Marussia F1 car with only 75% power/downforce. So.... A bit of a stretch, but probably not full on lie.
What is the time compare to f1?
Giving the best shot to this car, Max Chilton, the very same driver that this lap, did in 2014 a lap of 1:20.489. Granted, 2014 F1 cars are the slowest to ever lap Hockenheimring, and he did it with a Marussia, the worst F1 car of 2014. The lap record in Hockenheimring was set in 2018 by Sebastian Vettel with a 1:11.212
How about a McMurtry Nascar lap time?
the laptime sure is impressive but proves once and for all to all the usual imbeciles out there who thought the McMurty could rival F1 times that it simply, doesnt. And not by a long shot. And dont misunderstand me, that is perfectly ok. Its the logical thing. But the annoying ignorants out there can now stop talking nonsense.

@@Rezcuz sure it will. But I believe there is a reason why they didnt use 100%. Maybe it is very difficult to drive at 100% and ends up losing time. Even at 100% though it wont get much closer to an actual F1 lap time.
Love this car, and the tech behind it, but as a commercial proposition I do feel it really should have been a 2 seater. Many of the people who can afford a £1m toy will be extrovert multi-millionaires, and they will rule it out simply for not being able to show off to (and scare) their friends. Maybe a two seater in the future? Can be LMP width so would not affect design too much.
Imagine how quick it could go with a F1 driver who can hit apexes.

Thx, I was wondering. I am an American F1 fan, but not a purist. I don’t like the fact that it’s not competitive. As an aerospace engineer, I appreciate the technology, but it’s really a design competition on the ever changing rules specification. Money greatly influences the prize. I’ve been saying for years that fan cars would beat the current crop. This McMurtry record was only done with 75% vacuum and power. It would be interesting to see how it could do at full power. It would be nice if Monaco could be a great track again with smaller F1 cars. They’ve gotten huge so that they can make enough downforce.

@@askeladden450 As mentioned on the last part of the video, the lap record run was at only 75% Downforce & Power. They have not used the F1/Qualifying mode yet. With the F1 mode, I don't think that it will be able to beat F1 lap time, but it won't be far.
@@justinvfernando yup, although its main limitation was the bumps and kerbs. I would say it will be close to lmp1 times, but still around 7-8s behind the f1.

I am excited to see practical and security applications for the fancar technology! Imagine a fan as an emergency system that supports the ESP in situations of loss of grip or traction, sucking the car to the ground and bringing it back safe to the required trajectory.

I would like how the car would drive with VERY low fan power eg. 5% or 10%. Would be very interesting to note the mininum point at which the effects are noticable, and what that feels like at the breakaway / dropoff point (even if it's 1% power).

I know it's already called the Speirling, but I feel it should be called the Silverfish, the way that it's moving flat across the ground at crazy speeds. And also, just like the Silverfish is a primitive insect, the Speirling is an early example of a type of cars which are going to be absolutely dominating. Either way, love it to bits!

What happens with a fan car if you have an off into gravel? Couple tons of suction combined with a loose gravel track run off area sounds potentially dangerous and expensive to repair.
I’m always happy to see a British Billionaire succeed with an electric car where another British billionaire failed so miserably. Slightly disappointed to see that this is marketed as a “Willy-waving” toy to beat your friends in their expensive toys - devalues the achievement but I guess you have to sell them to someone.
The way it just coasted past that Pagani in Turn 2 was ridiculous.
