@@patriciaweitzel I’m trying to slow down and get good bow control. After all it is not a rush to get through the book! I have been in number 7 for a while since I need to make that legato sound good! I hope to sound like you in a couple of years!
Hi Patricia, I love the way your bass sings. I am practising this score: Can I ask if it is necessary to slow the metronome in the cantabile section? I play with a carbon fibre bow, but the sounds is very scratchy? Do you recommend using wooden bows instead of carbon fibre ones?
Hi Alfonso! In my opinion it's not absolutely necessary to slow down the metronome marking, but I think the slower tempo is more suitable to convey the cantabile character. Regarding bows, wooden ones used to be absolutely superior but carbon fiber bows have come a long way. There are many variables in this case, but perhaps consider checking the condition of your bow hair and rosin and most importantly, how your bow is engaging with the string. A good balance between bow weight, speed, and placement can do wonders!
Tennessee all state didn't have excerpts like these when I was auditioning... I'm a sophomore performance major on double bass and this excerpt might find use in my practice routine 😌
I am still on number 7. I started playing just about 3 months ago and I can’t wait to get to these more melodic etudes.
You are progressing so fast! Sounds like you will be playing this one sooner than later.
