      100 % agree. I also like the briefness of the videos. Of course it covers only a very small subset of possible topics, but for beginners this is a good way of teaching/learning I believe

    this was arguably the absolute BEST tutorial series I've watched. Fast, clear, concise, and even in a few videos ago when there was an issue with the new versions not following the tutorials same rules, bam, uploaded a fix video. Dude SERIOUSLY this was everything I was looking for. I was seriously nervous about learning unreal and put it off for years, learned in an afternoon. 10/10

    OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH 😍😍😍. I am a beginner and I wanted to make a reload anim. So I set it up and noticed that when I reloaded all the other animations stopped working. Now I found YOU explaining so well how to merge to animations. You made me so happy when you said to blend walking and reloading. This is exactly what I was looking for. Sorry for being so excessive but God damn man you made my day!!!

    Hi Virtus, I'm not sure if this could reach you, but just let you know that I'd kill for a turn based combat tutorial. As far as I know, the entire UA-cam does not have any single tutorial related to turn based RPG in UE4. Would be great if you could make a series into that, maybe just the combat system. Anyway, I love all of your tutorials so far, please keep making those! *insert some hearts here*

    great series but it would be AWESOME to see a part 2. Questions arise i.e.: how do we actually link these animations to keyboard inputs ? it is unclear to me how the character blueprint interacts with the animation blueprint. It would also be super to see more detailed state machine examples.

    this way of doing it I don't think it's the most optimal for good looks. This way is not blending the previous animation with the new one, but RESTARTING the previous animation and then blending with the new one, so there is a hitch. The proper way would be to enter to the blending based on a variable inside the Walk anim state, rather than having an extra state just for this "montage". This is the simple way but it doesn't look good, in my opinion.

    Really useful tutorials thanks, but if I could add what is hopefully some constructive advise. A quick browse over the the early tutorials just in case I missed it and I don't think I did, but you've covered just about everything except how devices such as keys, mouse & or controller interfaces to feed those values, without which a player character is pretty much useles.

    Hi, first of all thanks for this tutorial series! I really enjoy well planned tutorials that explain quickly but thoroughly :D
    I have a little question, though: I want to add facial animation to my character using the layer blend per bone node and so far it works fine, but there is a little thing that annoys me:
    As soon as I switch over to my "face" state, it restarts the base animation from frame 0 which gives the animation an ugly hickups.
    So my question is: Is there a way to keep the base animation playing? And if not, is there a way to get the current frame of the animation at the moment when the state switches so I can use it as the start position in my "face"-state?
    I'd be really glad if you could help me solve this :)

      By adding the skeletal mesh with its animation blueprint on a characterBP, and in there, you reference the skeletal mesh in the event graph , then from that reference, get the anim Instance and cast it to its animationBP, that way you can access to its animationBP variables and control it that way

      Use a Blueprint Interface. Call the Event from Character BP, set up logic, Event ReloadWeapon->Reloading(True). This is an Event-based action. TBH, this is more like a one-off, kinda a bad example. But you could just create a delay in the Anim Event Graph after Reload starts, and toggle the thing back off.

    I also have an upper body mounting error when I select the upper body in
    the video part located on the upper right side, the video does not play

    is it possible to blend/merge blend animations? i am making the transition from unity and had all the animations setup for unity's blend trees. there you can put blends inside blends inside blends... its basically blendception, i was wondering if there was something like that on unreal as well.
    for example, merging the blend for the legs with an other blend that makes the torso aim up and down

    im not entirely sure i get it. how can it know which one is the upper or lower half? also, if its layered by bone, shouldn't it just blend that joint?

      It looks at all the children of that bone, the whole upper body is a child to spine_01.
