      Love it for the fall/winter seasons here in NYC. I prefer colors that mirror the Spring/Summer season once it gets warmer. Navy blue all year round though.

      Really could do with charcoal for my next suit, never really owned one & if I can get it in herringbone then I definitely will 😂 but won't get anything from s&m until I'm earning a bit more and gained weight so I'm happy waiting

      A Charcoal suit is the 1 suit to have if you only need a suit a few times per yr. It's arguably more versatile than the other wheelhouse colors, ( med grey, light grey, navy, or cadet blue). The herringbone creates subtle pattern which adds visual interest. The tailoring and fit is on point! Would love to see a comparison / before and after tailoring OTR 46 and how it compares to this one. I agree that 11-11.7 is mid rise and a full 12-13 is going to rectify any dreaded shirt triangle situation that most affordable OTR suits / SC seem to have.

    My guy says he wouldnt be caught dead in flat front pants.
    Similar sentiments were shared for loafers and suits ;)
    I'll give you another year before you are ordering flat front pants from spier and mackay.
    The charcoal suit looks good. I purchased one of their off the rack charcoal suits. It's sharkskin and I got it at a decent price. It's my more formal suit...well mostly for funerals heh
    I also like the jacket you're wearing. The lapels are a dead spier and mackay give away. Spier and mackay is a treasure...i hope they stay in business for years....but not so much that I want everyone else wearing what I wear haha.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 роки тому +2

      Oh hell no! You can’t compare those 2. Wearing loafers was just a matter of extending my sartorial palette, if you will. Flat front pants is something that I used to wear prior to discovering Classic Menswear and there’s no turning back for me. That’s like wearing cuffless trousers and skinny lapels and belts instead of suspenders. Those things will NEVER happen again.

    Learned a lot from you when I wanted to buy suits here in Japan at this place called Big Vision. Just picked up three 3 piece suits mid gray Loro Piana Australis , navy Loro Piana Zelander, and charcoal gray Zegna Trofeo fabric.
    They have some insane deals on MTM suits here. 2 Piece Loro Piana and Zegna fabric was on sale for ¥59k + ¥10k for the vest + another ¥10k for lining, button and other customizations.
    This is a MTM customized 3P suit in designer S150s fabrics for less than $550 each. I also grabbed a Harris Tweed sport coat and Zegna Cashmere chesterfield overcoat in camel.
    All MTM…sport coat was less than $300 and coat was less than $750. Might pick up some Yearn shoes and grab an Intro tie if/when they come back in stock and if they ship to Japan. Come to Japan and get some suits!

    Charcoal suits are great. More subtle than navy blue, and less stark than black, it is a very versatile colour, particularly if you need a multi-functional suit.
    I would start my wardrobe with a charcoal suit.
    I could not agree more, about the herringbone pattern. It adds subtle texture to the suit, which helps accentuate the quality of a fine fabric suit, as the light makes minute contrast in shading, creating an elegant aesthetic.
    That being said, the details are critical. Surgeon’s cuffs, and pick stitching are signatures of custom suit.
    That SPIER & MACKAY suit is sharp!

    A ‘Plain Front Pant’ hater? Oh, my! Don’t pleated pants amplify the mid-section. Something to avoid if you have excess. Maybe with jacket on it doesn’t matter. I enjoy your content, thank you.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 роки тому

      Thanks for your kind words, Andres. I’m a huge “plain front pants” hater and I’m not hiding that fact at all. Pleated pants do not amplify your midsection at all, au contraire it gives you even more room due to the excess fabric when you need it like when you’re sitting down for example and they stay flat when you’re standing. What amplifies someone’s midsection has more to do with the trousers rise as most men have too short of a rise and wear their pants under their belly as opposed to at their belly button. A pleated high rise trousers is the 6-packless man’s best friend. I should know since I am one.

    Vladimir! Just found you about a month ago. Bravo sir! Love your aesthetic, eye and style! I too am a HUGE Spier & Mackay fan. Discovered them over a year ago. I have several suits, sportcoats and other garments from their collections. However, here's a really wierd and annoyting thing I discovered with their tailored jackets and wondering if you have experienced this as well. Their manufacturer marks the sleeve botton locations with some kind of ink. So when you have the sleeves tailored (which of course is mandatory) you'll see these ink marks which require professional spot cleaning or cleaning the whole jacket. Now I've not seen this on every jacket I've bought from them but it's been the case for several. It's been a real pain. Spier & Mackay has taken care of the cleaning costs plus store credit for the trouble each time this has happened. They've always had awesome customer service and sales advice. They have told me that they've takked to manufacturing and this should not be an issue moving forward. However, I just bought one of their cotton khaki sportcoats and saw the same thing. I have an email out to them about this as we speak. We'll see what they say this time. So Vladimir, have you seen this with your Spier & Mackay jackets? Since you're a very high profile Spier & Mackay fan, do you think you can make some progress with the owner about this issue? That's all that good man. Be well! Happy to discuss more, could send you pics, etc. Dr. Ralph - Columbus, Ohio

      @v_r_  4 роки тому

      What’s up, Dr. Ralph? I appreciate your kind words, thank you! What you mentioned is so odd because I’ve never experienced in none of my jackets so far, but that sounds extremely annoying. @@v_r_ Right on Vladimir! Regarding my recent issue with the washed cotton, unstructured khaki sportcoat, cleaners was successful in removing the marks to basically not visible. And S&M compensated me, the most yet, for this issue. They're investigating again. Odd that it is only seen from time to time. Many thanks for you binging this issue up to Rick. Please feel free to mention "Dr. Ralph from Columbus Ohio" to tie in specific examples. He should be able to put two and two together. Will be curous to see what they tell you. S&M serves an important market and makes really nice suits in styles that, if made in Naples or Florence, cost many times more. I have a S&M suit and, owning some custom suits, noticed that the armholes are rather comparitively low. Other than that, the clothing is very nice. If you notice how Vlad's suits bunch up at the shoulder when he sits, that's from the larger arm-hole. This being said, when you approach $1,000 for a S&M, I think it's worth at least looking at/investing in an Orazio Luciano, Ring Jacket or Gennaro Formosa. Yes, it's 1.5x -2x the price, but you'll immediately feel the difference and you'll get a suit that will look better as it ages, obviating the need to buy more suits.. And the price should be weighed in light of the fact that some people buy 20 S&M suits anyway. Again, I want to emphasize that S&M makes wonderful suits and the Chinese factories that make them are as best as any in the world. But I'd like to see Vlad sort some variety and show people how they can move up a notch if so desired.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 роки тому +1

      What’s up, bro? From my experience, I’d say the Neapolitan jackets have higher armholes compared to other mass market brands. But not as high as niche brands like the ones that you’ve mentioned. Eventually, I’ll get there but right now, I’d rather spend more on my shoes while still staying under the 1k price point with my suits. Not sure for how long but I guess we shall see. I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching.

If there's one point about suits and jacket that's often overlooked, it's the size of the armholes and how a high armhole would always add to the freedom of movement and comfort of a jacket.
