Mike Nasiatka has built one of the gnarliest homebrew track creations we've ever seen, much less driven. Though he'd never built a car before, he began with two cars: a crashed 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T drag car, and a second-generation Pontiac Fiero GT. By shoving the complete Eclipse drivetrain in the back of the Fiero, Mike has created an absolutely terrifying monster of a car. The engine runs a 68MM Precision Turbo and on 35 PSI makes 700 horsepower, but, thankfully, Mike agreed to dial it back to 20 PSI for my drive, with only 500 horsepower at the wheels. Hang on, because this is some ride.

I would love to see the owner drive this at full boost.
He'd probably die
+Bill Freedman he has and does
i meant driving at full boost. sorry
Mike has run it on the street at full boost, but it just breaks traction and wants to walk all over the road... when it's a little more finished he's thinking about getting slicks for the back and trying to drag it too... engine and trans were originally built for the dragstrip, hence the big ass turbo, so unlike a stock DSM fwd trans he can launch it. I'd LOVE to see this on kill with slicks pulling the front end off the ground
Yes please!
Hey guys thanks for all the interest and love for the build!
mike nasiatka just piked up a fiero and wanting to swap with one of these engines or an srt4 engine would this fit easily without cutting the engine bay apart
I LOVE YOU MIKE!!!! LOL
@@ethankime3368 Look up "Project Pontibishi" on Facebook. If you go back enough you can see just about the entire build. Guy done it himself in his garage without a lift and a wife with 2 kids.. MAD respect. And it's only getting better with time
Is this your fiero?
Good onya Mike, only us crazy bike guys build cool shit like this
This is probably the best/funniest One Take I've ever seen. Just the purity of how Matt is acting like a kid driving (a fast car) for the first time driving. It's exciting, yet scary, but the more you drive it and get used to it, the more fun it becomes. Laughing and swearing from the sheer fright that is this amazing deathtrap. You gotta love it. We've all experienced that giddy-ness at some point in our lives when we drive something truly exciting. This one was fun.
Unfortunately some "experts" on the internet will act like they're better drivers by saying "yOu'Re NoT eVeN pUsHiNg It ToO mUcH"
Am I the only one admiring those nice weld beads on the steering wheel?
Mike is an excellent fabricator. This car may look rough but the welding work on the cage is ace.
He didn't fabricate the steering wheel www.speedwaymotors.com/15-Inch-Pro-Grip-Aluminum-Steering-Wheel-Dish,7415.html
"I was terrified to get in this car, now that I'm in here... I'm still terrified" XD
Hell no just a other day out in the woods!
4000...5000....
..fuck me!......that needs to be my new tach!!!!
lmao best shit ever
+
+DieselDan09
god dam good idea! haha
HaHaHaHa.. so funny.
You should see Corbin Goodwyn's old 302 RX-7. I seem to recall his rev counter went 5000...6000...6666...LOL - along with any number of other crappy but hilarious touches that made it the most awesome piece of shit ever.
Should have gotten an interview with the builder, I would have liked to have seen that
First question: Are you actually insane?
Yeah really that would be a good starter haha
yeah the spin around the track was Meh.. talk to the builder. and have him take the camera for a ride.. No offense.. but he just did not know how to drive that car. When to get on gas, when to get on brakes, when to down or upshift. I am sure the owner could kill that track with the car.
hey guys i have a build page on facebook calle Project Pontibishi check it out and ask any questions you have!
+Torpedomtb the owner had literally never driven the car on a track before. But continue assuming things.
Don't you just love sketchy as fuck racecars?
Race cars are anything but sketchy as fuck.
Race cars are built so they are easy to drive.
Making the driver comfortable is a large part of what wins races.
There are plenty of race cars that were notorious for being a handful.
Have you every driven a proper racecar? And no I'm not talking about some spec miata shit. Racecars are not easy to drive.
BallinBucket lol yes actually, in fact, i daily drive an elise. Race cars are built to be stable, predictable and easy to drive.
Obviously, a formula car will be more of a handful than most cars, but it is still built to be easy to drive ... considering what it can do.
GT spec cars are easy to drive, period.
This isn't the 60s-90s anymore. Driver comfort is a top priority, and a large part of the formula for success.
Not ALL race cars are easy to drive. Especially older ones with no Power Steering, Power Brakes, Traction Control and/or Stability Control. Especially in a RWD car, never mind the AWD ones.
To the builder: Bravo, sir.
I need a cigarette after watching this.
The driver sounds exactly like PENN JILLETTE
I'd like to see Randy Pobst take this car on.
for real
thats what i was thinking mid video
If you look at the thumbnail closely, you'll see a big fat smile on Matt's face. Great video dude!
all comments you made this video should be on new TST shirts.
"I need liquor"
Best endorsement of a car ever hahahah
Hey Matt thanks for risking ur well being for our entertainment we all appreciate your dedication and hard work with that said next time you get an opportunity to drive this death fiero go full boost man
That was the funniest and fun race lap I have ever witnessed and it was in a cool fiero. It was like watching a guy hang on a roller-coaster for dear life because the straps weren't operational. This is a bangin channel.
Jesus christ...that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, I can't imagine driving it, Wicked car.
could only imagine this thing at 700 hp lol probably too much to do anything with it
+PeePee2000 Overdose can result in explosive diarrhea 😂
its capable of more than 700. i think when it was in thr talon it made more before thr new turbo and injectors.
It'd probably be game over on life. But if you gotta go.....go with a smile!
no boost no boost no boost no boost no boost no boost no boost no boost no boost BAM YOU ARE DEATH !!!
+A Sleeping Giant nah, it's just a race car
Its rare to see Matt react like this to driving a car, this video was a blast to watch.
nice recovery at 7:44. That had to have been a butt puckering moment. lol
Hollly fucking shit, that was scary.
whats the worse that could happen? spins out... its all good man, all fun
+Pablo Nunez Ive learned never to say whats the worse that could happen lol.
Haha I've put it in the grass a few times, but there are definently walls and roll overs that are possibilities
Yeah i agree that was a pretty good learning experience. If you watch him when he starts to lose control he actually takes your hand off the wheel rather than over correct at some points
Lol, "I'm just tryin' to have a laugh and not die!"
Can't tell if hands are shaking or steering wheel is vibrating. Probably both. Fantastic car, awesome video.
That kind of turbo lag is the result of a drag engine in a track car, the turbo was meant to be spun up and kept there, not the up and down of track racing. It definitely needs a better turbo setup to make it less sketchy with a better power curve.
This might be the coolest car you've done a One Take of. What a monster!
I dont know about anyone else but videos like this with cars like that are way better than videos with supercars like the McLaren 570s video.
"These guys are all taking their track day very seriously, I'm just trying to have a laugh and not die." Poor guy hahahaha
"We're in Michigan"
"YEEEEAEH!¡!"
Hahaha
This is why your channel is so great. Everything from a modded Chevy Cruze, McLaren press cars, and THIS. Variety is truly the spice of life!
Man oh man! These videos are getting better and better! Great format!
4G63 still sounds amazing. I wish Ford could figure out how to get their engines to sound the same way.
Best one take EVER! I really kept checking out the video timing hoping it wont end. OMG that was mad.
I'm SO happy this is finally out... I'm actually the one that sent the pics and link to the build to The Smoking Tire page seeing of he had any interest in driving it. Luckily Matt said he would be at Gridlife and Mike was already planning on taking the car. Car is absolutely insane, so glad I found this build back months ago and started following.
Watching Farah a bit off-put and sort of dealing with this car makes this the best one-take in a long time. Thanks for risking your life in that car.
one of the best one takes to date
"Fat man finding his way on a racetrack in a deathtrap."
YES!! I've been waiting for this ever since your article on thedrive
This was by far the most entertaining video you have put out to date Matt lol
This is why i will never own a v8. this beast is seriously fast, sounds raw as fuck, and nothing feels like big turbo pushing you back in your seat. satan created this beast....
I think Matt likes driving nutty cars
that was amazing Matt!! one of my favorite videos!
This is officially the best track car ever.
Looks real easy to drive ;)
yes and my stock honda civic is surely faster
ye ye speed is overrated, fear of death is were it's at! Haha
+ye ye i hope that sarcasm....god i hope
kiltedsaint well ok maybe my stock honda civic is only faster on an icy track but if I tune it like madmax and put harpoon launchers on it I will win against this car in a "race".
ye ye hate to burst your bubble, but his harpoon launchers only added 6hp. I thought they a
Dded like 45 too, but english class tought me that not all herpies are created pickle
With shfter that long, G-foreces can throw shifter out of gear.
That's what she said
Never thought about that
I wonder if a refrigerator on wheels like that can pull enough g's to throw the shifter out.
Well the shaft was quite loose. Usually you see shit like this in rat rods, which this car technically seems to be.
+Raitzi I've seen cleaner cars called ratrods so I'd give it the title. it's a purely function based ratrod. don't need details that you see in a lot of ratrods if you are zooming at warp speed around a track.
thank you Matt for doing this review. it's car built like this that makes me watch your channel these are the kind of built that's much appreciated
That was the best car video I've seen in a long long time! Great job. Let the insanity persist!
Matt aka best car review guy on youtube ))
Well... Chris Harris, Farrah is very close / on par..
+Bunka Fas and mister regular
Matt also still uploads stuff. Chris's stuff is gold when it comes out but Matt sufficiently feeds a hunger for vids.
Matt, Chris Harris, and Steve Sutcliffe are the best.
Comment by the coolest Supra owner on UA-cam ;)
that was one of the dopest things i've ever seen!
Matt, I"m speechless .....I enjoyed that video as much as you enjoyed that Fiero!!!! Hammer down Brother!!!
Dear Mike,
I waited months for this video and its all i wanted and more.
Now hes felt what a true DSM owner can build with their cars.
"Fuck, it's all over the track" - your bodily fluids, that is.
never wanted to see the owner of the car rip in it himself until I saw this..
The owner had never driven it at all before I had my go.
+TheSmokingTire o wow...
+TheSmokingTire did he tell you that before or after he handed you the keys lol. pushed it to the limit epic laps.
So you were the guinea pig to his sketchy ass creation? He's a smart man.
Test dummy, he's a smart man. lol
Matt this is a gem of a one take.
Thanks Matt for driving this and recording it. This the closest a person can get to riding the zipper ride at the exhibition grounds on 4 wheels. On the edge doesn't do just description justice for this car. Matt you da man.
looks like a car from the movie "death race"
That was detuned? Lmao
the steering is just beautiful..
Badass!!! Vid Matt! One of the best ever!
Half DSM, half Fiero.... If it broke with you behind the wheel, believe me, it was NOT you.... LOL
I'd love to see someone utilize the 700 or so hp that thing allegedly has... O__O
Been waiting forever for this!
Great audio and video quality, extremely entertaining, this video painted a smile on my face. One of my favorite one takes. Good work Matt and lots of respect for your ballsy driving
good old pontubishi.
you can look it up on facebook
Skip to 0:36 to watch video
and skip back to 0:00 to allow more content like this
There have been years of content like this before ads.
Watch any old video, there hasn't been any paid intro. Not sure how he made money, but it sure wasn't from an ad at the start.
+Bob Marley we didn't make money. That's the point. We lost money for years while we built an audience. Now, in order to be sustainable, we have to promote things to monetize that audience we invested all that time and money building. Just because something exists, like ad free content, doesn't make it a good idea or sustainable. This is the way forward.
+Bob Marley he says right there we lost money for years while we built an audience
This is my favorite vid yet, was awesome seeing you scared shitless haha. Keep it up and grats on 600k.
Hell yea Matt, nice recovery on those turns that thing is insane! This video had me at 4G63, RIP my 90' GSX.
This is what the f*k I'm talking about! more building, less buying!
Did this guy fabricate the steering wheel? The wields look awesome...
Yeah he did
Yes! It also looks like it would be super slippery with no gloves.
www.speedwaymotors.com/15-Inch-Pro-Grip-Aluminum-Steering-Wheel-Dish,7415.html
not a home made steering wheel we have the same one in our stockcar actually has lots of grip with no gloves
whoops, maybe not.
This was my favourite video you have ever done,I loved your reaction to this thing
best review from you in awhile love it
It's a DSM driving in reverse
Nothing is reversed. Front wheels spin the same direction as the back wheels ...
eclipse front assembly is miunted backwards in rear and rear is mounted in front
MrBooshScadoosh More like custom subframe ...
Exhaust side of the motor still faces forward. Definitely not reversed.
One of the Fiero's biggest design strengths, along with the MR2's, is it used a FWD drive system moved to the rear wheels giving you an RMR drive train with barely any additional work.
The Fiero used GM's old FF setup that put the engine on the cars center line. The Engine was mounted directly in front of the transmission, similar to a motorcycle, connected with a chain. a 5 inch wide 3/4 inch think chain that can handle over 1000hp and 1000lb-ft as long as you keep the oil up and changed fairly regularly.
This also allowed the Fiero to be modded easily with anything up to Corvette engines. The Best engine would be Pontiac's 3800 Series Supercharged OHV V6. That engine is/was the absolute best fit for that car. An Engine, along with a re-branded version of Olbsmobile's Quad-4 i4 engine, Pontiac most certainly would have used if the Fiero had not been murdered by GM HQ, to protect the Corvette. That's a long discussion by itself. Needless to say the 1990s would have seen GM have two serious sports cars, and the Fiero would have put a serious squeeze on the NSX, while forcing Chevy to up their Corvette game. The C5 was introduced in 1995.
The DSM/Eclipse setup, is like other FF cars, the engine is set to the side making it hard to mount anything largely than fairly small engines. But most companies, making FF small and compact cars, today could literally slap together an RMR smallish, "lite", sports car with surprising ease.
"I'm just trying to have a laugh and not die".
Hands down one of your best vids Matt.... damn good show. Also props for keeping it on the track.
Matt deserves a like for putting his life on the line for making this great video
wait that car is from Indiana !? wtf I gotta find this guy !
Voodoo Nights same here lol I didn't know people in indiana built stuff like this. #BornHoosier
James The Human
Mike naistat actually commented above you he owns it
Matt what do you think about motorcycles?
I enjoy them. But I'm not skilled enough to do proper reviews, so I leave that to the pros.
Did it have an LSD?
one of the best test drives of this series!!!! hell yes!!
Damn Matt - one of the most entertaining videos you've ever made!
Did the car break at all? Is it ok?
It just blew off an Intercooler hose. It was fine
Shame ;)
sounded like it did. Did sounded the same as when mine popped off at 32 psi on my gen coupe
D-no P: hoses don't blow off because of hp, they pop off because of pressure. 35 psi is about 15~20 psi more than what your average factory turbo engine will make.
I would assume that it be pushing about 40 psi at most at 700hp. Any more, then they would have to lower compression below 8.5:1 . For them to detune it, they might have lowered psi to 35 and retarded the time a bit.
XD, i know jack shit about anything, and even i kinda reckognized it as some hose popping off... :D
Ia there any logic behind that shifter? It seems like a SUPER long throw.
Length of the shifter is not the length of the throw, but I'd imagine it is that long to shorten the distance your hand would have to travel back to the wheel.
yeah buddy
Both the pivot and the shifter length will effect throw...
I'd buy your logic if every-other gear wasn't further away from the wheel (2nd, 4th).
Maxwelhse No, and no. Your hand is higher than normal because of the shifter, therefore your hand is closer to the wheel. "By your logic" gtfo...
yeah buddy
Up and down are only two directions...
Whatever... Until someone that knows what they're talking about comes along I guess I won't get my answer.
yeah buddy
You're cute little "gtfo" is where the assholishness started. One day when you grow up you'll understand.
Probably one of the best episodes you have done on a (One Take) as your reactions make it super fun and funny to watch. Good stuff!!
coming from the pontibishi group we've been foaming waiting for this video. thanks matt for taking Mike's fiero around. its nice thats he's getting recognition.
of course there are always haters with slower cars. like an elise.
I don't understand why someone would spend so much time, money, and effort on a car just to give it Corvette C4 brakes and Meagan Racing coilovers. Here's 700hp, but lemme skimp on the important shit. Also, is that an optical illusion, or does the steering column really have that much flex in it?
He already had a complete 700 HP drivetrain out of his crashed drag car. The rest of it was built on a very tight budget using whatever was available.
TheSmokingTire I appreciate you taking time out of your day to reply. While I can appreciate using what's available and working on a tight budget, phrases you used like "scary stuff" and "I don't trust the brakes" wouldn't be used to describe that car had he just waited for his budget to allow better things. The article I read about that car had said he built the car over a span of 6 years, at that point, what's a few more months or another year? Sorry, I'm not trying to be a dick, but just trying to use this as a platform to preach against compromises.
Also Matt, I appreciate you risking your life to make us these videos. You couldn't pay me to get in that Fiero as it sits. You got balls man. 700hp capable and it's on C4 brakes and HP+ pads? You have fun with that. I'll be cheering you on from behind the concrete barriers =P
C4 weighs 1000 pounds more than this car. I dont see why there would be any issues with the brakes. It might be a cheap solution but doesnt mean its a bad solution.
Im sure if youd like to pay to upgrade his brakes and coilovers he would be more than happy to do it.
I am going to say you had never built a project car before in your life you have to understand that money for these parts just doesn't appear randomly in your pocket and not everyone can save up enough money to max out every last detail on a car. That's why there are people like this that show us its possible to do something like this on a tight budget. You should at least show some respect that he decided to up the brakes to C4 instead of leaving them stock like most people would.
no boost until 4-5k? crazy horsepower cars are fun but if it's not even useful then like, what's the point besides benchracing?
He pulled the whole drivetrain directly out of his drag car, hence the giant turbo. I advised Mike that the car would be real world faster with a smaller turbo
TheSmokingTire ohhh that makes sense if it's out of a drag car. with a smaller turbo that car seems like it'd be a fantastic autocrosser with all the suspension bits and it being MR layout.
One of the best episodes in awhile!
I love these One Takes, but this was one of the best because you're having a hell of a time in a crazy car
Give it to "The $tig". Lets see some real lap times. Or that other guy who drives like a Madman around the Laguna. (You know who I'm talking about)!
Can someone explain the shifter? How does it work? Is it sequential?
Just a regular 5-speed
it's just a long stick shift.
It's a normal h pattern..
It seems like just the 5spd from the Eagle Talon that the trans and 4g63 motor are from. looks like it just has a long-ass shifter arm on it. Look up Project Pontibishi on facebook
i dont think so. I think hes mostly just shifting between 3rd and 4th
This is my favorite One Take by far!
Welp...that was the most exciting one take I've seen thus far. Great job, to both Matt and Mike
It is the most Non Fiero, Fiero I have ever seen. Coulda done those mods to a dune buggy.
I want to see Chris Harris lap this car.
That was really scary to even watch! You are a brave man! Thanks for sharing.
The 4G is a cool swap. What a crazy build! Love it.
my stock fiero is slightly safer and a lot slower. Love the fiero, and finally in 2017 i think they are more beloved than the mr2.
CSLFiero same same. Mine was an 88 I snagged for 500$ with only 103,000 miles. Not bad for a first car. It's a bitch to work on though
I have an 87 with 17,000 on a rebuilt 4 cylinder. I fucking love it.
I hate engine code nerds. WTF is a 4G63B?
It's the engine used in the DSM cars, Talon Eclipse, and then the Evo
Lol. 4G63 is one of the most well known engine codes. If you don't know that, I'm surprised you're watching the video.
I'm sorry you're too dumb to use google
you are in the wrong place then little guy.
you are in the wrong place then little guy.
great video and congrats on 600k!
I really missed these type of videos. Love the home built madness.
Thats an amazing video! The spontaneous WOOOAH's! had me in stitches!
Matt, this is by far my most favorite video now. Your reactions and comments were hilarious. You handled that nut job of a race car well! Love the content.
I seriously enjoyed this video, that looks so fun to drive and terrifying at the same time.
i sensed the fear & excitement matt had driving this thing. it was awesome & thanks for the vid!!
