The longest journey's world building will be remembered by me. Helped me widen my imagination more than any other game and April Ryan is incredible, a truly memorable character.
Best part of the game:
April: I can pull a rabbit out of a hat!
Klacks: I can pull a hat out of a rabbit. What's your point?
Grim Fandango 🤣
The Best PC point'n'click adventure of all time. Period. With Stark and Arcadia, you have to think about "dimensions", not planets or universes.
I'm glad I stumbled across this video, I love this game and to find someone able to talk for near-on an hour non-stop with interesting observations throughout is just the best thing I could ask for when it comes to their experience with The Longest Journey. Especially 18 years after its release.
It kept breaking my heart when you mentioned 'maybe it's expanded upon in the sequel' at several points though. I played Dreamfall and it was the most crushing, depressing, disappointing, pointless experiences in my life and relentlessly so. It felt so near and yet so, so far away from a true continuation of The Longest Journey and a spit in the face of anyone who was invested in the returning characters (i.e. everyone who played the the first game). You may think it's hyperbole, but the other bad times in my life I've either had no control over, or had a lesson to be learned. Playing Dreamfall was something I did to myself, I hyped the game up and fell all the further for it. I just hope you weathered it better than I did.
As for The Longest Journey, I love the game to bits. To have someone explain why they enjoyed it in a way I'm too biased to do makes me feel good. I shouldn't seek validation like that, but I can't deny the feeling exists. I'm glad that someone else felt the magic of The Longest Journey, got lost in the inner workings of the worlds, and followed the growth of April Ryan from her enigmatic childhood, to the start as a struggling art student, to the unsung saviour of worlds.
I really can't think of anything further to add, I'm too enthralled by the game to put into words how I feel, or to have the objectivity to go through it all with a fine-tooth comb and a eye for scrutiny. I'll have to keep an eye on your channel for the future.
I love The Longest Journey and I feel so similar about this review. I'm super glad I ran into this, it was thoroughly entertaining and every point resonated with me. Impressive stuff!
@@minimme make a longest journey video, coward
Yesss!! I waited for this!!!
Nice noticing westhouse. Wait and see :)
I'm glad that you enjoy the setting. It's one of the series' strengths. I wonder how you feel about Dreamfall's gameplay approach. It's quite different than the first game, and I love it for it, but not everybody is a fan of how the second game plays. I'm also looking forward to your opinions on the story developments.
I love the background.
That being said, With saying that you "enjoy everything but the gameplay"
That's pretty much how I feel about every TellTale game.
I remember that rubber ducky puzzle, almost as bad as the "High Charity" level from halo 2 on legendary.
Oh god what a nightmare it was, impossible to have thought of how to do it without a walkthrough
I think every single person how played TLJ without a guide remember the rubber ducky puzzle. Is like I was right now seeing it from above floating in that dirty channel.
Syberia 1 and 2 were good point and click adventure games too, have not played the 3rd one yet
I remember enjoying the 3rd one as well but it's been awhile, so who knows.
6:07 Grim Fandango. :)
Edit. Too late I already commented.
Thanks for the shoutout. Glad you enjoyed the game. Can't want for the next installment(s)!
Hm, are you the same Gwydo from the Primus Campaign? And if so, are you named after Ghido the Sage from Final Fantasy V?
You seem like a character in the game
He said he would get 7k comments about a name of a video game, 5 years later he has a total of 41, now 42 comments
Could not have hit that like button hard enough
best video I've ever seen on youtube. lmaoooo Love It!!
I can't stop laughing about the "don't comment about Grim Fandango" thing. Lore is a comedy genius sometimes.
I thought of that same Cracked article when you started talking about a rubber ducky in a game. I do sometimes enjoy the comedy from Cracked's "golden era" (roughly 2012-2015); their older stuff I'm not familiar with, and the last couple of years before they collapsed were starting to lose their edge.
23:30 already happened. Already is. Not all of your cupcake examples but magic and aliens do exist and always have.
I find it funny how the tagged game in the "description" is World of Warcraft.
You are thinking of Grim Fan... oh you looked it up, never mind.
Spoiler: That Lady Alvane (the narrator) and April Ryan are the same person at different ages is an assumption based on the final cut-scene connection with Crow (they're not the same person). A spoiler-free explanation: consider that it's likely a talking, intelligent bird (Crow) would be drawn to important characters, or "Waves," as they're termed within the story.
No matter how hard I try, I can't play this game for more than an hour without getting distracted. The ambiance is probably the best part but I just got force myself to play it.
I might have to lock myself in a room without internet at some point and get through it, because I know that I want to, it's why I've racked up a few steam hours on it without getting anywhere due to the amount of times I've tried to play it.
It's THAT game!
I have just started playing this again first time in years!!! trying to play all of them again before dreamfall chapters which i have not played yet, the 2nd one isn't really point and click.
This is a very intresing think pice, good work.
Hey! I recently discovered your channel and I am enjoying it a lot!
I just wanted to ask, why dont you make yourself bigger in the video? Your facial expressions add a lot to your commentary, and the rest of the screen doesnt really add anything of value. Just my 2 cents! Cheers!
How about doing a rumination of Grim Fandango ?
It's Grim Fandango
Also your notes have thankfully improved. Since many of your takes by the time you made this video were already proven wrong/explained in the next 2 games to be otherwise.
You could use more imagination.
What's the game in the background here? Very pretty.
Looks like Witcher 3 but not certain.
I liked your rumination a lil less liniar, since you ask
Its grim fandango
It hurts so much looking back at The Longest Journey and how good it was and look now at Dreamfall chapters and how they completely butchered and violated the lore with there multicultural, political ideologies, and down right sjw propaganda!
I mean I haven't played dreamfall chapters yet but you do realise that TLJ was a thoroughly progressive work as well you know.
"I AM GAAAY!!!"
Do the far right ever try to explain what they mean and expand on their vague buzzwords!? Or is it because they can't?
You do remember April's landlords were a gay couple, right? Or is this comment just scattershot word salad?
