Hey man, from here in London in the UK I totally agree with what you're saying- off to the hills as soon as we've defeated the Virus! Thanks for making this video, I'm using my OnePlus 7 Pro to film a meteor shower from my garden and I've never filmed or tried to photograph any kind of night sky before. I've found your video really helpful! Thanks!

And the best part is, the Intervalometer app can be paired with other apps to get crazy results, in fact I found out how to take HDR timelapses, like with proper exposure bracketing.
I can literally make another video if you want to see how.

    Sir, you are a saint.
I've been downloading timelapse apps like crazy just to come to realize they all lack the quality of the built in camera2 api. And since I have no patience to unlock it via root access (maybe in the future though) this app is precisely the thing I need in my life.

      See here's the problem.
I have iPhones but as of now I haven't been able to find an app like the Intervalometer on the App Store.
And that's why you'll see most of my timelapse videos restricted to Androids.
But yes, iPhone + Filmic Pro = Amazing Video
& the newer Twelves will come with Dolby Vision HDR recording capability, which honestly is a huge deal.
I use Blackmagic cameras for videos on my channel & I have the ability to create Dolby Vision content, but UA-cam only has HDR10 & HDR support for now. But now that Apple has tied up with Dolby natively, expect HDR content to just explode.

I've tried this method on many phones, including some really cheap ones.
And yes, the phones do get a bit hot, but if you give enough space between subsequent captures, that should ideally solve the issue.
I'm usually capturing 1 image in 1 minute, so the phone is idle for 20-30 seconds, helps maintaining the temperature.

Try taking a 10 second exposure every 30 seconds or something. That ways you get 2 photos every minute + your phone gets breathing space between consequent captures.

      Hi JT
So honestly speaking, I've had mixed results with the screen locked.
When I use an App called 'Open Camera' to take HDR Timelapses, it does support continuous capture on screen locked as well.
But the native camera App didn't work.
So I think your camera App has to support that feature.
To be honest, I've left my OnePlus 7 & my LG G8 on for almost 5-6 hours to capture timelapses with no visible sign of any burn-in. I think modern Screens have far better stamina than older LCDs. Because screen retention was sometimes an issue with my LG V20.
Start with an hour. I'm sure that'll not prop any issues.
