@@weedbass1263 On what basis? Gastelum obviously has better striking, but Usman has much better wrestling. They share a common opponent in Tyron Woodley, and Kelvin got outstruck by Tyron in a close fight while Kamaru utterly dominated Tyron in a completely one-sided display of cage-wrestling superiority. Usman has much better cardio/conditioning than Gastelum as well.
You can tell there is a respect between KG and Izzy after that 5 round war!
Was a great fight, could see from the first round both fighters respected their capabilities, every move was calculated and never felt rushed.
I'm a Izzy fan but it was a shame KG rocked him in the back end of the 4th as Kelvin looked tired and didn't go for the KO, which I don't think most people noticed when they said he should of kept throwing instead of clinching as I'm sure KG knew fair well that if he went all out he would of completely gassed and potentially be at risk for a countered. I also think the ref shouldn't of let the 5th go all the way as Kelvin could of got seriously hurt when the guy is only 27 and still has a long and bright future ahead of him.
Other than that it was a fantastic fight between both a great Striker and Kickboxer
@sOMBRE Demeurer To say that Whittaker "isn't at the level of Kelvin or Israel" is flat out ignorant. *Styles make fights*. Whittaker has the style to pick Gastelum apart from the outside and neutralize his forward pressure just like Darren Till did, but fighting from the outside against a longer, master kickboxing technician in Adesanya is impossible so Robert was screwed in that matchup. Gastelum on the other hand excels at pressuring forward and boxing on the inside, which is the specific style that was needed to give Adesanya trouble. In summary: Gastelum troubles Adesanya, Adesanya beats Whittaker, and Whittaker beats Gastelum. It's rock/paper/scissors except with Adesanya winning everytime (with varying degrees of difficulty).

Been consistently underrated throughout his whole career. He's one of the best boxers in MMA, some of the fastest hands in MMA, and a great wrestler, great heart, great chin. Kelvin can definitely be the champ.
Agreed. Weight was a big problem for him at WW, but that aside, I thought he beat Woodley a few years ago and got robbed by the judges. No excuses at Middleweight though. Hope he can stay sharp and earn his title shot back

tubeaddict871 I think the strategy going in was to look for an early knockout early because Israel speeds up rounds go. Essentially it was very poorly executed since the punches were being over committed and open to the counter. The best way to strike with Israel is to punch in a perpendicular motions slowly and gradually up the tempo (set ups) in a surprise speed once the gap has been closed and he expects the same velocity as the set ups.
In Whittaker’s case, the counter uppercuts were coming for him along with the check hooks and that was inevitable due to his strategy.
He shouldve just wrestled with him. Isreal hasnt faced a world class wrestler yet

Rob got dropped twice and got saved by the bell in the first round and didn’t get up the second time😂
He dropped 3 out of those 5 times in the last round tho - Gotta take into account the exhaustion. The other two times, Izzy dropped him properly - once catching him, and the other time Kelvin tripped and got caught. Kelvin's durability is absolutely insane, and his striking is severely underrated (he dropped Izzy twice as well), and had a toe to toe striking match with the best striker in the UFC, coming all the way down to the 5th round for a decision. As for Rob, idk what to say. His fights with Romero probably did shatter his chin.

@@Arif-kw5rw Rob has gotten caught and rocked bad against Brunson, Jacare, and Yoel. It wasn't his chin that did anything because all those hits were glancing blows with power. It was his survival ability that allowed him to eek by and not get finished like Ferguson. Problem is Izzy is too precise and caught him perfect and therefore flattened him. Rob never had an impressive chin he had great survivability.

The thing though is that he hurt Izzy way worse than what Rob has done in his fight, and also didn't get finished until almost getting finished in the last minute of the last round. Big difference - KG didnt need Head movement to get through, his chin held on, whereas Robs didnt

Who is to say Izzy wouldn't make different adjustments for KG, and that KG wouldn't make adjustments for Izzy if they ever were to fight again - depending on the adjustments, the fight can go either way, depends on who adjusts better which imo will be Izzy either way

So Kelvin was able to do work and hurt Izzy who's significantly longer and uses his reach way better than Rob and yet Rob's going to beat him because of those attributes.
