I agree that they took it too far with Pen power / feminist because they dehumanized Colin - he needed to keep his vulnerability and insecurity and yes some jealousy but he would have e been honest about his conflict in loving her and feeling betrayed. I also think wedding night sex could have helped Colin get past his anger - I imagine him crying during and after and laying it out. I love you and I don’t know how to move on. I wish you would have told me yourself. Pen should have said “I do too”
I think it would have been great if after the chat under the weeping willow (which essentially was a Pen rejection - she said keep distance) I wanted to see Colin struggle with wanting to be closer. I think he would have read her letters taken the letter to his bedroom, fantasized over her, realizing their deep bond, flashbacks! Some kind of falling in love beyond what they showed which was basically Pens lips close up lust and jealousy of Debling. We know Colin cares but having all this time of Pens longing and then giving up, we needed to see Colin discovering what was there in some way.
Introverts everywhere like Francesca/John because we connected with their love. But that ending left a bad taste in my mouth.
And I really think they weren't expecting people to like them so much and I agree that ending...

Agree with a quicker LW resolution but re watch Colin’s words - he is upset with the lies hanging over them. Can’t fault that. Pen admits guilt for writing things in the past but doesn’t face his upset with the lies in the present and the lies make him want to separate Pen from LW (lies and jealousy of her success) he wants to protect her and his entire family and it’s not wrong for him to feel LW must be in the past. He could have accepted it sooner and dealt with the issues together. 100% they did Colin dirty in the writing.

Yes I agree, but the show with the writing did not make it clear at all that he was concerned about Penelope getting hurt, and that that was part of his deal. Also, I’m on team. He should’ve got in that carriage that would’ve made it a whole lot better and knowing they shot scenes of him doing that and the screener saw it only makes it worse!

I kept on waiting for Colin to redeem himself and show/prove his love. I was flabbergasted after Colin went to Cressida and ended up making things worse. And after that at some point i thought they were pushing the 'feminism' a little too much. I have nothing against that but we are looking for romance here.
I had wondered why Colin was not by her side when she was being revealed as Lady Whistledown. That made me a bit sad too.
The confession of Colin at the end was great but I felt it could have been sprinkled in between their angry phase. Because I find it hard to bridge the gap from the angry Colin who's sleeping on the couch to that final confession. Just from reading previous letters.
I agree they could have let Colin do more and could have written him better. And let the other romantic moments from the book show on screen. I weep fro Colin. He is so misunderstood from how he is portrayed on the show.
How could they possibly think Colin on the couch is what we want? I'll never understand it
Thank you so much for your take on this season. So many years looking forward to seeing one of my favorite books adapted and am truly bummed by how disappointing it was.

One issue I have is they really spent too much time on the Lord Debling of it all! if you rewatch part one look at all the time that they spent with Lord Debling that could have been spent with Penelope and Colin! I just think there was a better way to have him realize his feelings for her!
Just the pacing all over the place is bad. They could have used Debling a lot more effectively

❤great talk! Truly disappointed in season 3. So, so many things needed to be better, but also apparently character building scenes were cut, and a few intimate scenes were as well. So, with the change petition ongoing will see if they ever release it! With her wedding dress, I think what they were trying to do is emphasize she is a simple clothing Bridgerton and no longer loud feathertons. You hit on soo Soo many points of disappointment in this season it is helping to hear your thoughts about it.

Benedict was never with a man before Paul...S1 has him meeting someone who is gay and walking in on him and his lover having sex, and there's an overall plot there regarding being with someone in secret, etc. Just wanted to point this out to you, as you mentioned he was with a man in S1, but he never was.

I guess I need to rewatch season 1 because I thought the main conflict with them started well after the wedding
I just watched it. It was a million times more swoonworthy. I am yours Daphne. I have always been yours. No sleeping on the sofa on the wedding night for them
