I feel like Neeb was intimidated playing against Serral. That wasn't representative of their relative skill. Neeb made some really bad top-level decisions, and his scouting was really bad for a pro.
Serral is just on a whole 'nother level then everyone else on the WCS right now. The other pros really have to step up their game if they want to be able to even take a map from him :O But I'm hyped, I'm sure that, given enough time, they will catch up to him and we are going to see even better Starcraft then ever before! :D
I dont think any pro gamers will ever catch up to Serral he has eidetic memory and he's also blessed with infantile amnesia The best memory abilities of all, for this type of game!
Game 1 Serral showed he was better than Neeb in an even, straight up game. Just cleanly outplayed him. Game 2 Serral showed he could throw in a crushing mix up to stop anyone from cutting corners. And then there's game 3. Game 3 Serral was arguably BEHIND after the early game, and showed he could still monster punch Neeb to the moon, to quote Artosis. Huge drop in the main with lurkers to draw Neeb's army away from the 4th while teching to broods. Burrowing Lurkers under the broods and keeping broods near obstacles to stop a blink under, all while going up to SEVEN bases, 4k/2k bank and 90 larva and not letting Neeb take a 4th. Even if Serral's entire army died at that point he still would have won. I'm absolutely speechless, Serral made Neeb look like a total scrub. It's hard to even pick a specific mistake that Neeb made, Serral is just a god.
It’s really annoying when you’re searching thru the yt to find a good match and yet. When i see serral i already know the ending... common!! That’s just unfair :(
They said... One time... The Caster/Announcers said that many players are extremely stressed when facing Serral. Most of them expect to face utter defeat. That is why casters give respect to those who fight him toe to toe and still make a good fight. For Serral is one tough boi, and everyone knows that. Short answer: Yes.
People make a joke that no matter how godly your performance is, as long as Serral stills alive in the tournament, they have no chance to win. Most players say something like this during the interview or back-stage.
how is the game not broken if 2 of the 3 races need a wall early in the game just to survive the zerg? while the zerg can easily go 3 bases and have the feeling of being safe because of the joke queens and zergling speed
@Dieter Gaudlitz Zerg is broken. If Serral was *forced* to play terran from now on I expect he'd still be a big name but I doubt he would be in the finals of every tournament like it has been for 2 years now. I'd expect him to show up in every round of 16 but after the outcome would no longer be certain.
Because the economies work differently. Basically, zerg need to be 1 base up to to equal, partly cuz the low efficiency of units, partly because hatches are the production buildings for the zerg.
The casters were right. Neeb absolutely wrecked everyone on his way to this Semifinal. But they were wrong that it was all about Serral. I think it was a little bit on Neeb's side too. In Game 1, he kept stubbornly trying to expand without properly defending the expansion site. He must have tried 3 or 4 times before just giving up and going all-in. By then, it seemed Neeb had already given up before even fighting it out. It's worth noting that Neeb had no AOE besides the archons. Why was there no psi storm? Why would you try to dark templar against Serral, who has shown multiple times in the past that he is very good against DT or archon drops? Also, Neeb didn't replace his sentries after key engagements. The force fields were huge during those fights against the banelings and not replacing sentries is odd for Neeb. Clearly he wasn't playing his best already. In Game 2, he had a great hold against those lings and then stubbornly tried to expand too soon. Why not just make a few zealots? Why not get a warp prism and a couple of archons? Heck, even a couple of oracles would have allowed him to take that expansion safely. There was no reason to force the issue right there, and I can only conclude that Neeb felt undue pressure to do something "tricky" instead of sticking to solid, fundamental play. Serral, as good as he is, is not THIS much better than Neeb. You could tell in Neeb's post-game interviews prior to this matchup with Serral: Neeb kind of psyched himself into a loss before they ever played the first game of this series.
It's sad to say but for me serral kinda ruined European starcraft. It should be really cool to see this perfect play and control, but when he wins every eu tournament it gets predictable and not that fun. There is no excitement at all, because you know who is gonna win. It isn't like that with maru, even when he was winning every gsl in a year these matches were really fun, maru winning wasn't a sure thing. He only smashed in a the gsl, a tournament where you get a lot of preparation time. Also it's way more fun to see terran win, they need to harras, drop, have versatile strategies etc and zerg just defends until he has an unstoppable macro and a broodlord, infestor army. Besides that Zerg is too strong at at moment and we see them dominate in every tournament. , I'm not saying that serral is only good because of balance because he is much better than any other zerg, but zerg is very strong in general. Terran and protoss have a hard time winning against a normal zerg, and they have basically no chance against terran because he is prepared for every thing possible. Maybe if blizzard switched some things around so timings and builds are different then the results could be different. Zerg is a reactive race and they just learned to basically defend anything

All those players have to play different races to some extent to test their builds and get into the mindset of their opponents to prepare for their competition. In these conditions, if there was lasting imbalance in the game, wouldn't pro players just choose to play the best race all the time ? - You either consider a race is unba until next patch, then it shouldn't affect stats since there aren't enough top tier competitions to make realistic stats considering the player pool. - Or you consider zerg has been unba for a while - say 6 months to a year. Any top pro would consider switching races if he thinks he could get more price money by doing so. They don't because... the unbalance is either too temporary or too small to justify it.
