As someone who has been keenly interested in the Great War for the past twenty five years i have to say how much I enjoy your series, very informative and well presented. Many thanks Matt.
What i like SOOOOO much about your channel, video's is that you approach each 'subject' as an historian and NOT as an Australian. I very much commend you for your non biased views and opinions. Have seen video's in the past from other 'nations' point of view and many times they display nationalism and bias in their 'reporting' etc....... but what sets you apart Sir is your non-partisan approach and a heart-felt appeal that all genuine historians ought to have. I recommend your channel to all peoples i know who enjoy history on youtube. Keep up your wonderful work Mr McLachlan ! Oh also....you deserve far more subscriptions than you currently have, hoping 2020 allows your channel to grow significantly (smile)
Great. Would love to see a tour of the Mouquet Farm battlefield. I know it is private property, but would be fascinating to see actually what remains of the original fortification.
I’ve walked across the Mouquet Farm battlefield. There are still a few things to see from the fighting, most notably the foundations of the original farmhouse and the quarry which was the scene of some of the bloodiest fighting. Not to mention the largest pile of unexploded shells I’ve ever seen!
Hello Mat, I love videos mate, especially about the First World War, my great grand father was killed on the Somme and rests in Ancre British Cemetery, Lee.
The first day of the somme may have been a defeat for the aussies but in the end the British got revenge for our Australian brethren and took victory overall at the Battle of the somme 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

There was no fighting at the commonwealth memorials. The Germans shot at them as they moved past.
Gli australiani hanno sempre tolto dai problemi gli inglesi. Nella Somme come a Gallipoli.
