The shopping list feature will be nice. Using to-do’s in the meantime isn’t bad at all. I kinda like that I can have separate to-do’s for separate shopping lists. Like a general one, one for Sprouts, one for Costco, one for Trader Joe’s, etc.
Since you had this for month now any changes or updates to the calendar that they added? Also Now that they have a Skylight max big screener would you have gotten skylight vs hearth? Honest question bc I’m in between the two calendar on which to buy.
Okay, I went and had a look. So my observation is they are very similar in their main features. Both can sync external calendars, make lists, add chores/to-do's and both have a phone app. Skylight doesn't have a ton published yet. For example, I'm not sure if they do a screen saver, have reminders, or has the option to text appointments to your calendar, etc. The big difference I see is the look. The skylight looks plastic-ish from the pictures, I also don't like the horizontal position, that takes up a lot of space on a wall. I prefer the vertical position, it just feels more natural as your tapping the screen. What are your thoughts?
They have a page on their website that shows all the requested features, and a roadmap that shows what they're working on prioritized. They do accept feedback, yes. After I bought mine I was invited to provide feedback and I did it via a phone call.
Yes. When you go to add calendar the options right now are google, apple and outlook. There’s also a “subscribe via URL” option but not sure what that is.
I supposed you could use the calendar to show your weekly meal plan by just putting it in the calendar. Laundry schedule I'm guess it depends what you mean, you can assign people tasks if it's their turn to do laundry, or again put it in the calendar. They have actual grocery list feature in their feature request roadmap, but the way I get around it us using a to-to and listing my items there, I can access it from my phone when I'm at the store.
@@PattiHicks-nw6qk yes! They have implemented reminders! So you can set a reminder like at time of event, 5, 10, 15 min before etc.. Also Shopping Lists!! This one just came out within the last 2 weeks.
I’ve only used outlook at work. I’ve never used it personally bc I have a MacBook and my husband hates apple. A family calendar (electronically) has always been a struggle..
Hi! Thanks for the review. Is there a limit to the number of calendars? We're a bigger family so we'd have 7 or 8 calendars. Is that possible or does it limit the number of calendars?
As of December 2023 you can add up to 8 total members in the family! Not sure what it was prior but they sent an email out announcing that as a new feature.
Skylight is tiny. It’s like the size of a picture frame. I see a lot of reviews where it sits on the kitchen counter. This is much bigger and finger friendly, in my opinion. I can’t speak to the capabilities, but there’s videos out there. The form factor alone made skylight a no-go for me.
@@brenckellh6842skylight is just like this, but comes in 3 different sizes,.. 10 inch - $99, 15 inch - $289, and 27 inch, $627. Skylight has a subscription of $39 per year. Hearth has a $9.99 a month subscription (if I remember correctly). From my research, it seems like both systems are very similar. I am just in the research phase, so I can't tell you which one is better... I do like the option of a smaller screen at half the price of the skylight. I also like the fact that I can purchase the skylight at Best buy down the street, therefore if something goes wrong, I can easily return...... I also like that it is only $39 per year for the subscription, which is optional if you want more than 15 pictures on the screen rotation..
Still very happy with the purchase. I’m excited to see the features on their roadmap. My family has started using it, they resisted at first but now they’re seeing how easy it is to add events and the instant relief that it’s no longer in your head or in an email or in a post-it note.
@@brenckellh6842 Do you have to buy one to get the roadmap? That's my biggest concern, not knowing what is coming b/c I can already see what something like the Skylight calendar has.
How is the display now? Any new features or updates? Curious about some more advance features. Does it let you connect a Microsoft calendar (to show my work calendar since wfh)
You can connect a google calendar, apple calendar or outlook calendar. Those are the options I see when I try to connect a new Calendar. There’s been 4 rounds of updates since I got it in Sept. The new features of note (to me at least) are there is a weather widget now that is always on at the top of the screen even when I’m screensaver mode. Gives your current temps, and if you tap it, it will show you a week forecast. There is increase in family size, up to 8 max. You can filter calendars, so you can hide certain calendars from the view.
@@brenckellh6842 thanks! Seems it just runs on Android. I currently use Dakboard (free) hooking a raspberry pi to a monitor. Hard to justify this price tbh. May wait a bit longer
Not exactly. They have an app and you can do everything on the app and it shows up on your wall calendar. So you can do it on your phone, tablet, pc, etc.
You can set one image as your wallpaper. This will come on if you have privacy mode on. But you can't upload multiple photos and expect it to cycle through, No. It doesn't work like an e-frame.
@@caryhughes6813 I still love it. I really do. And the app for iPhone is out and every so often has some updates. It beats my paper calendar, never going back :) they have implemented reminders!! And shopping list!! These were on my most wanted new features!
Thanks for the review.. for a product released in 2023 going into 2024 it looks poorly executed. The concept is great and looked promising but the laggy functionality and “web app” ilo a native iOS app leaves little to be desired. Also there is a trial for the cloud subscription after which there is a monthly cost around that of a Netflix subscription..
I can’t agree that it’s “poorly executed” because there’s really nothing to compare it to. There is nothing that is similar to this form factor, ease of use and provides features for an entire family. Also the monthly subscription is basically the cost of a Starbucks beverage. I’ll gladly pay that to be able to text events to my calendar, which I do quite frequently, it’s so nice. Sounds like you work in this industry.
Thanks for the detailed review! I'm waiting for mine (they said November...) and I'm glad to see people actually getting them. What was your rough order number? I'm in the 5500 block and curious when I can expect it.
Yes, the wait flew by. The price is definitely an investment but I’m the type of person that will pay for convenience. I work full time, and parent so if something is going to save me time and stress I typically lean into that :)
Do you know if this company is genuine? I'm still waiting, I ordered in August. I email and keep getting we ship according to orders received. Rechecked and was told, "Oh, we are having freight delays." Now my order should arrive in October. Does anyone else have this problem?
