    That bike definitely checks all the boxes for an comfortable more DH oriented XC bike. I can’t wait to hear about your impressions on the trails. BTW, I really appreciate your videos, I ride a lot, almost daily and it’s mostly on my local technical steep trails with my hardtail SS and geared bikes. Because of your influence I’ve been measuring my frames Geo and going “experimetal” by sliding my SS to shorten and lengthen from 418-435 and playing with stack height with different riser bars. Probably try an angel set next.
    Honestly, I wish your services and videos where available before I bought my first custom frame in 2015.
    Thanks Steve!

    Absolutely in love with my Neuhaus! It's a Solstice 29, but I built up to be a light(ish) all-day bike with the geo to bail me out on the tricky bits. As smooth and playful as the Solstice rides, I have to imagine the Hummingbird will be amazing in those respects as well!

    100% on the Specialized Zee cages and SRAM shifting. I don't necessarily think any shifting system is necessarily better than the other, rather it is just personal preference. That said, I switched to SRAM in '05 and have have remained a fan ever since.

    Could be wrong but those chain stays look like they'd have quite a bit of lateral flex around the BB. Can't wait to hear what you think of the bike.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  Рік тому +4

      I haven't seen a cross section of the bb yoke yet, but the cool part about additive manufacturing is that they can alter the structure inside the tubes. So they could theoretically control the stiffness and direction of flex at the yoke. Pretty exciting stuff.

      @hardtailparty  Рік тому

      Yes, ideally you'll get the exact headset for this. It's the same as Santa Cruz with their integrated headsets. It wasn't worth the $45 for me to get one just for this video, especially since it'll be taken off in a few weeks.

    Have you ran 2.5/2.4/2.3s with 40s? I get that modern tires aren’t design for it so the tread would probs be weird, but if they were, a 40mm rim with 60mm tire is the same ratio as road rims to tires

    I'm surprised by the weight, I was hoping this would come in below 28lb without having to go with the lightest components. Doesn't have the wow factor of the pink Solstice.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  Рік тому

      The frames are within 1/2 lb of each other, so the weight makes sense. My brakes are pretty heavy, and the ti bars aren't as light as carbon. The wheels aren't exceptionally light either.

      @Cassienope Рік тому

      I built mine up to be 27 pounds with a mix of components (carbon wheels, inserts, decent xc tires, trp 4 piston brakes, stepcast 34) really just depends on what parts you have.
