For anyone wondering about the lack of attention, that's not exactly it. Japan blocked a lot of music from youtube for a while and it's just somewhat recently being allowed, many artists have Vevo now. The labels decided to share. Japan is the second biggest entertainment industry in the world, right behind USA. And Kalafina has been around for a while. They don't need any attention. Japan appreciates any international attention but it doesn't really matter to them. And for comparison, kpop tries and succeeds to become popular internationally, because the Korean industry is much, much smaller. It's interesting that bigger and smaller markets gain more attention but I think Japan has so much from the anime and the culture that attracts visitors, there's no desire to really promote beyond Kyary who was trending a few years back.
+annie b There's no accounting for taste, but to my opionion, if you look at the quality of Japanese pop music, it is on a very high level. More chords, more 'eye for detail in the musical content, and diversity. I think probably because the emphasis is more on the music than on selling the 'product', where in Western popular music a lot of motivation for making a popular song, seems to be making profit. This is not really an analysis based on market knowledge, but from what i've seen and heard about Japanese culture and comparing that to the left upper corner of this planet (seen on 'our version of the world map). I think that South Korea is somewhere inbetween the US and Japan, and that's logical, since there's a large American presence because of the North-South divide. I live in the Netherlands, where it seems the market is very protected, even against US- music. Not necessarrily by economical means, but choices in airplay and as a result, diversity is very low, the product is clean, spotless, perfect, but it's lost it's soul. BTW, if you look at the 'non-pop' music industry, like fusion/jazzrock, progressive rock, soul, funk etc. it's a different story.

Not only is the song absolutely beautiful, the video is perfect in its elegance and simplicity. I didn't notice the first time watching, but it's all one long continuous shot with a single camera. I especially love what Keiko does after the "mabushii asa" line towards the end, where is seems as if she's about to say something else afterward, but then sadly chooses not to. Hikaru's expression of sadness during most of the video was also very nicely done, but I kind of expect the best emoting from her due to her past videos and live performances. Wakana's featured vocals are lovely, as usual. I'm pretty new to the Kalafina/Yuki Kajiura bandwagon, but I'm so glad I finally discovered them. Magia is the song that made me want to hear more from them, and I've been pleasantly surprised by how well they perform a variety of styles. I'd love to see them live.
I've seen a bunch of them and they really are great live. The Lisani Live version of Magia is wonderful, as is their cover of Anna ni Issho Datta no ni from an Animax concert. There are a bunch of great concert videos for FictionJunction as well, taken from full length concert Blurays/DVDs. I've gone so far as to sub a bunch of songs using Aegisub and lyrics from online (including this video). If it weren't for copyright issues, I'd upload my subbed versions to UA-cam.

(btw Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a MUST-WATCH anime. One of the best anime I've ever watched.)

There's plenty of good music across many genre's from many different parts of the world. If you can't find something good from the US... or anywhere else in the world at that, it's a matter of expanding your horizons and viewing music for it's composition and not restricting yourself to a specific style. In certain scenes there is amazing music coming out of America. It's just not usually the "popular" stuff - but if you have not noticed, popular opinion around the WORLD is nothing more than a collective of idiot's opinions. I personally believe most people from almost all industrialized (and otherwise...) nations have shitty taste in just about everything. That may be the nature of opinion, but singling out America in this seems a little silly, no? When you can walk down the streets of any Major city on this planet and hear a bunch of attitude and zero creativity on everyone's stereo.
Wakana is so beautiful,so is her voice..Those high notes are awesome and she did those notes perfectly beautiful in live performances too,especially in the Consolation Special Final Live Concert..
Despite the fact that this is a Wakana-lead song, it's easy to forget that Keiko held that note at the end of her 'mabushii asa' for an astonishing 9 seconds. Holy shit.
This is absolutely breathtaking... By far my favorite song my them... It gives me chills every time especially when the one on the right sings omigoodness 😭
I am reminded again why Hikaru's my favourite to watch. For me her expressions and movements are always lyric-driven. At 2:15, she took a short lead and seemed to stand apart from the others even looking to the side. It was fun watching her different expressions compared to Keiko's and Wakana's. From 2:38 moving gradually from the downcast look and gradually raising her head in time to enter her second lead line was subtly dramatic and effective. The little bouts of no movement then sudden outbursts of emotion. 🥰 From 2:44 onwards was the rising climax and all the three ladies' expressions and movements were amplified and synchronized. Emoting!
I really love this song! I do believe however that the girl on the very left should've gotten more features, she has an amazing voice! I noticed this by watching 2:15 and 2:44, those are her only features but prove that she should have had more melody lines, but nonetheless, this song is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have heard! (besides the song called brothers from FMA) :D

In certain scenes there is amazing music coming out of America. It's just not usually the "popular" stuff - but if you have not noticed, popular opinion around the WORLD is nothing more than a collective of idiot's opinions.
I personally believe most people from almost all industrialized (and otherwise...) nations have shitty taste in just about everything. That may be the nature of opinion, but singling out America in this seems a little silly, no? When you can walk down the streets of any Major city on this planet and hear a bunch of attitude and zero creativity on everyone's stereo.

I got literal chills. Kalafina is one of my favorite singing groups. Their voices are sublime.
Wakana is so beautiful,so is her voice..Those high notes are awesome and she did those notes perfectly beautiful in live performances too,especially in the Consolation Special Final Live Concert..

Despite the fact that this is a Wakana-lead song, it's easy to forget that Keiko held that note at the end of her 'mabushii asa' for an astonishing 9 seconds. Holy shit.

Madoka Magica always one of the best and 1st magical girl anime I've ever watched
I am reminded again why Hikaru's my favourite to watch. For me her expressions and movements are always lyric-driven. At 2:15, she took a short lead and seemed to stand apart from the others even looking to the side. It was fun watching her different expressions compared to Keiko's and Wakana's.
From 2:38 moving gradually from the downcast look and gradually raising her head in time to enter her second lead line was subtly dramatic and effective. The little bouts of no movement then sudden outbursts of emotion. 🥰
From 2:44 onwards was the rising climax and all the three ladies' expressions and movements were amplified and synchronized. Emoting!

I really love this song! I do believe however that the girl on the very left should've gotten more features, she has an amazing voice! I noticed this by watching 2:15 and 2:44, those are her only features but prove that she should have had more melody lines, but nonetheless, this song is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have heard! (besides the song called brothers from FMA) :D

Damn they sing so beautiful like WOW talented. They can harmonize so awesomely, they sound like they were classically trained. The blend with like the orchestra instruments & the other instruments was done so well. BTW did not expect that voice to come out of the 2nd girl who sang classy. XD
