Bruce This great to see again, I just hope one day my recital of Tam is half as good. I don't know anyone who is any better that lets you sleep with his sister, but I'm still looking :). All the best for 2010.
@juliuzbeezer Lionel's "Tam O Shanter" is like hearing an old friend telling an old friend telling me a wonderful story over a pint. A tale well told. An excellent narration with every nuance there" John Cairney "A man who captured the essence of the Bard and made it accessable to us all" David Baird (President of Robert Burns World Federation 2010)
Bruce, anyone who really gave a damn (and knew anything) about Scotland, Scottish history and all that wouldn't care if you were sky blue pink wi yellow dots on! A man's a man for a' that! Keep swingin' that kilt!
@shanxy7 Not ignorant. Just honest. When we publish our work publicly, then it is up for criticism I'm afraid. Well lerned but a bit quick and SHOUTY. The best reciter of Tam O Shanter (and Scot's verse in general), Lionel McClelland, sadly died 4 weeks ago. To see a selection of his videos, please visit my channel, and you'll see the list 'Lionel McClelland 1957-2010'.
@CaTheYowes I agree his delivery is a bit rapid at points, but I think M. Fummey conveys the drunken exuberance that is undoubtedly intended by Burns' extremely well. McClelland's delivery is rather safe, cosy and sober for my taste; vive la différence!
@CaTheYowes By all means go ahead and post--I've seen three male performances of Tam O'Shanter on youtube to date, and to my mind none have rendered the feminine voice as well as might be..."She told thee well thou wast a skellum/A blethering, blustering, drunken blellum" surely requires maximum fishwife. I imagine a cuff arriving around poor drunken Tam's ear on the word "blellum." ;-)
@cowgirlgaily1 grow up. who's 'white'?? not me. i may have skin pigmentation that people would call that, but too many people get on their high horses about the political correctness of skin colour, just like you did. remember that when Ali G asked the question 'is it cos i is black?' the reaction to him was one of trying not to be offensive. and he's not!! FYI, some of my friends are Chinese, Sikh and Muslim. i don't call them 'black' or 'brown' or 'yellow' and they don't call me 'white'.
this is pure Gold Bruce! the best rendition i have ever see! Weeeeel Done! Brucey Fummey!!!
