thanks for the tips man, staying with friends in meppel and I dont want to spend the entire time there. This looks like a chill location and not a far drive. Do you have any other reecommendations in the near vicinity?
I personally did this as a day tour from Rotterdam, there’s plenty of small picturesque villages and towns and Netherlands is small enough to go pretty much anywhere in the country easily for day trips. If it is the right season look for the tulips in Keukenhof

I dont think saying to rent a private boat or to rent a car are the right things to say, "i did this but do whatever you want regarding your possibilites" thats what i would say..

I've been in Giethoorn and I loved it. But €1,5 million a house is absurd

Public transport is very easy in the netherlands, sad to hear this from someone who chooses a car over it.
I ALWAYS prefer public transport but in this instance it was not only far and very expensive, it was also impractical with at least 3 changes
