I will never overlook Ocean Vuong in my search for books to read in the future. How this young man came to such wisdom is a gift to our world. Thank you Ocean Gorgeous!
I was tearing up listening to you Ocean. I just finished reading your book. "They say that nothing lasts forever and I'm writing you in the voice of an endangered species" You're indeed an endangered species.
Watching this man in interviews is astonishing. He makes every question’s answer feel valuable. I can’t stop looking at videos of him because he tries his utmost every time to provide you with something meaningful.
I know I'll probably get filtered out for timestamping, but around 37:30 was the part I saw from a short by UA-camr/writer Prince Shakur that made me search up this interview. With the prior statements about desiring what's essentially forbidden/not moving on (which I can also relate to), puts the clipped short in further perspective. I'm a year late on that clip, and four years late on this interview, but I'm glad to have caught this.
I went from a casual glance of The Poets & writers magazine with Ocean Vuong's photo on the cover to being moved to tears watching and listening to Ocean recite some of his poems on UA-cam. What a treasure this gentle spirited poet is!
I was not able to make this reading though I very much wanted to, as it was sold out. So happy that it's online, and so proud of this wonderfully talented Vietnamese American writer. *ugly cry*
I also feel that literary connection you speak of. Furthermore, through the curious coincidence of our shared family name I am inclined to feel a connection to you personally as well. Woodford is a relatively common name. We are probably not related. But , having looked at your saved videos it became clear that we seem to share numerous tastes and lifestyles. Just thought I would reach out and make this observation.
So glad to read your prompt reply. I'm curious to know more about you. If you would like to write to me, you can do so at woodford.dp@yahoo.com I would welcome an email from you and would reply. So far as I know, self distancing still allows for electronic communication .
Good Lord; the way this young man is expressing his thoughts and feelings - I'm totally blown away. And so humble, gentle!
Can't agree with you more !
So freakin' articulate it kills me!
I could listen to him all day long
Leave it to an immigrant to celebrate the English language. Ocean Vuong has added a certain richness to American literature.
Well, the majority of Americans are immigrants.

As a member of the LGBTQI community, I felt deeply connected to the world of the novel.
