Is it weird that I legit teared up watching this for the first time while playing? Seeing her cross the original areas from the first game, seeing the familiar machines and landscapes with a gorgeous song playing in the background. It's absolutely amazing.
there's something just so.... cruel about how many times she comes *this* close to failure in the game simply because the world goes out of its way to keep her from being used to this whole "Friends" thing. And im not talking about your standard "Life's not fair" cruelty, I'm talking about "It's been centuries and Kratos STILL has to have Lysandre and Calliope's ashes bound to him" cruelty. Ted Faro didn't have much to do with THAT one but we'll give him another foot up his ass anyway.
It’s good though in a way because aloy knows she has a mission and she is the only one who can save the planet and humanity and that she intends to complete it no matter the cost.
This has to be one of the best opening title sequences to any video-game ever made. The scenery and cinematic flourish accompanied by a powerful and matching composition is brilliant.
I agree. I just started the game and came right to youtube. But there are some intros in video games which are awesome u should check out Detroit become human or ghost of tsushima. Its the same. You play a lil bit and then the intro kickin in!
Machines in this cutscene when Aloy literally walks by them: *understandable, have a great day* Machines in the actual game when Aloy sneezes on the other side of the map: *all I know is that I must kill*
Attention to detail by the way: The locations Aloy passes by in this intro in order do accurately depict her taking the road from Meridian into the west, past Sunfall, only taking a slight detour to pass by Maker’s End where she first learned about Zero Dawn. Spoilers below But storywise, for Aloy she’s almost got a bit of Joel Miller mentality where she’s pushing people away for fear seeing them get hurt. Rost was killed trying to save her, died for getting involved in the whole Eclipse/HADES deal. Varl is actually Aloy’s first real friend, his sister Vala was pretty close to taking that spot too, and because of how committed he’s been to helping her, she’s afraid he’ll die too (and to substantiate those fears, he later does die), so she abandons him. This game seems to have a pretty prominent theme of loneliness through it. This intro, with the lone singer and huge wideshots of Aloy riding through the Sundom and the West with not a soul in sight are a real mood.
She actually rides a long ways east, past the thunderjaws northeast of the Sun Steps tallneck, towards Dawn’s Sentinel and even past Cauldron SIGMA in Nora lands. Maybe in-game she had to restock knowing she’d likely never be back. Though we know the real reason was for HZD players to say goodbye to the old map.
This was such an awesome intro. Seeing all the places we went too in the first game, the music, the moment the game title comes along the screen. Just got past the opening. Can't wait to see what else the game has in store.

Not gonna lie loving zero dawn as much as I do (no I don’t think it’s the greatest game ever and not gonna argue if others have a different opinion) this title sequence showing a larger more varied world with a song that imo really sets the tone for aloy’s mindset on this journey really do get me a bit emotional.
Clearly I'm not the only one who cried when watching this... man so glad to hear a song like this made by Westerners. Not enough music like this in the West. This is one of the rare English lyrical songs that hits me right in the feels unlike Chinese pop music which is full of gut-wrenching songs. Kudos to the developers - this video game series is just such an emotional masterpiece of science-fiction writing that is scarily believable in its potential to become our reality. I think what makes the story of Horizon so touching is - if we do end up preventing the destruction of humanity, I would hope that humanity can live on in a post-post-Apocalyptic world like the one in this game.
Tho I’m not a creator regarding HZD content, I love HZD. From the very first to expansion to the forbidden west. What an awesome game! Awesome story. Cool graphics, cool realistic characters with realistic movements etc. to amazing detail, from being out of breath to walking in the dunes, down to the design of a latch on a can! Love it.
The most cinematic moment ever created in a game. With this intro the developers set a monumental atmosphere which the game matched throughout. This game hits new levels in every category, graphically unlike anthing I've ever seen and the combat is just unprecedented.
and they released the first one the same week as Breath of the Wild lol. I love Horizon, but they're really shooting themselves in the foot with release dates
While not as engaging as the last game, I still love the Horizon universe and all it offers. Aloy is a fantastic protagonist for the setting. She has been done with normal tribal disputes and sees the big picture ever since she completed her journey into Mother. I can't imagine how lonely her life must be, and yet she perseveres.
I was torn between enjoying the moment and pausing to take loads of screenshots. Game is gorgeous. The graphics are very good, but the aesthetic is unparalleled. And I'd argue graphics are less important than aesthetics in making a game look good. Gears of War had great graphics. But everything in the world was brown or grey, and it looked ugly. There was no colour, no life in the world. Child of Light has simple graphics, but is still one of the most visually beautiful games I've ever played. This has both great graphics, and a great aesthetic. Definitely one of the best looking games I've ever played. Oh, and in the end, I played the opening, saved at the first campfire, started a new game, and screenshot-ed the hell out of it.
From City on the Mesa to in the Flood. An absolutely gem of an opening. Best I've ever experienced. 220hr in and loving every minute of it. Bravo Guerilla! Take your time with 3. It has to top this which will be no easy feat. Now back to Meridian :)
Sad that was the only time we saw meridian but hey maybe it’ll be in the story dlc or we won’t see it again until the 3rd one which I assume won’t be out until 2025 or 2026 we’ll see by the way horizon forbidden west best game of 2022 I’ll keep playing it until the year ends along with zero dawn uncharted tomb raider and the last of us Besides this is definitely the year for naughty dog too especially since we got the uncharted movie this year
Gorgeous scenery, beautiful song, a surprisingly nostalgic and emotional montage, and a mix of a somber and exciting opening to what I thought was an incredible game.
This opening mildly blew me away ngl and that song. Just exquisite it really was. It's pretty sombre but at the same time it's got this hope to it and it's just such a beautiful song. The vibe it gives off for me is like nier soundtrack vibes in a way. That's a feat in itself tbh imo. Also if they improved the 2nd one this much. If they do a 3rd one which hopefully they will I can only imagine how good it will be. See what comes next. Genuinely one of the best sequels I've played on ps4 or ps5 definitely.
For some reason it feels like I've already listened to this opening song somewhere else, probably in the money heist series, somebody please help me thinking about this is killing me.
After finishing the game, the song has so much meaning after Varl’s death 😢 what’s even more emotional about this game is that Aloy still thinks about Rost. Literally, I cried a waterfall. I love this game. I hope they make a third game.
This song gives me sisterhood of the traveling pants middle age white woman going through a midlife crisis who just dropped this song in from her personal playlist vibes
this song should be in a movie opening scene. Just hope they do a movie remake of this game . Imagine a big budget film with proper story telling and visual effects like in the game!

One of the best intro of all time. I think Sony is realizing a movie in the near future even if I think the movie wont be beautiful like the game
Man, I did too. This is beautiful and hits hard.
I absolutely love this game -- so, so much! This isn't just a game, it's an emotional journey! Thank you for sharing.
This opening is why the game is over 80 gigs of storage
Lmfao
Ark survival evolved has entered the chat.......250 gigs.....+
Bullshit, sorry.
128gigs for me
I was torn between enjoying the moment and pausing to take loads of screenshots.
So true , especially about gears of war
From City on the Mesa to in the Flood. An absolutely gem of an opening. Best I've ever experienced. 220hr in and loving every minute of it. Bravo Guerilla! Take your time with 3. It has to top this which will be no easy feat. Now back to Meridian :)
Sad that was the only time we saw meridian but hey maybe it’ll be in the story dlc or we won’t see it again until the 3rd one which I assume won’t be out until 2025 or 2026 we’ll see by the way horizon forbidden west best game of 2022 I’ll keep playing it until the year ends along with zero dawn uncharted tomb raider and the last of us
Besides this is definitely the year for naughty dog too especially since we got the uncharted movie this year
Such a fantastic game that doesn't get enough credit. The developers should be immensely proud.
This game makes me emotional.
I wanted the og violin score 🥺
I get goosebumps every time
Gorgeous scenery, beautiful song, a surprisingly nostalgic and emotional montage, and a mix of a somber and exciting opening to what I thought was an incredible game.
They knew the tutorial was going to be painfully long, so the intro was made to soothe everyone into the actual game. That is just lovely you know.
This is beautiful..
I was freaking out when I first saw this
This song gives me sisterhood of the traveling pants middle age white woman going through a midlife crisis who just dropped this song in from her personal playlist vibes
What an amazing game. Felt like a 35 hour (strictly main story mode) Hollywood blockbuster
this song should be in a movie opening scene. Just hope they do a movie remake of this game . Imagine a big budget film with proper story telling and visual effects like in the game!
There will be series about this game but time is in past
I can listen to music at 1:56 forever.
This is how you make an opening and what a beautiful song.
What a baller opening to a game. It hits you right in the feels and gets you pumped for the journey ahead while you appreciate the beauty and reflect on the environments from the first game, it's perfect.
So I just started playing and heard the song for the first time ever and oh my god almost cried. I'm adding the song to my normal music
Such a beautiful game, full of nuance. You can read the body language of characters through their animations.
strange how friendly the surrounding machines are during the opening scene, but not during gameplay.
Hahah so true
1:38 and 1:42 What about those new machines and animals in Utah ( HZD ) ;)
@@RafaelPereira-dc9ir I don't know. But I'll play it once it comes out for the pc and see for myself
Hello Dan i hope you showcase of the skill-tree, armor, weapons and machines in Horizon Forbidden West
Man I’m bummed. For some reason the song didnt play for me when I got to this point and I was sitting there like… hm seems like there would be music here?
I can watch this all day!
Honestly the best intro to a game i’ve ever seen, by far
best opening ever
