The springtails will most likely be introduced from the food, try feeding sterilised food ,spring tails eat fungus and bacteria as well as the decaying food so they can live for quite a while in a sealed container once the medium is bacteria rich . Mushroom skin on charcoal will give you a good culture as the tiny splits in the charcoal harbour the bacteria
Thank you very much! I still have Grindals and Springtails cultures to explore - that would take many months before I could try something else. Happy Holydays to you and your family!
Thank you for the question! I wish I had a microscope and decent lenses for macro recording. And I may get some...one day in future 🙂This video I recorded using macro lance attached to my iPhone 6. You can see this macro lance and the other lances I show off in this video: ua-cam.com/video/wDRaMNTDrrs/v-deo.html
There are some types of Springtails feeding on mold - not the one I have. I will have to find those springtails that feed on mold - that would be interesting.
@@filamas I actually don't know for sure. I only cultivated mold in the container with springtails for the experiment. Normally I get cultures without mold. Also, I already uploaded and scheduled a video update with tips on culturing Springtails on any medium. You will see it in about a week. And than another video about culturing Springtails with Grindal worms on wilted leaves uploaded for April.
Springtails are much smaller compared to grindal worms. They also eat less to begin with. A quarter of cereal for one big springtails culture should do
@@gl3nnx Springtails help keep the culture going by braking down worms poop. They should not go after the food you give to worms. And you can use Springtails to feed top feeding fish or some other pets. There are many benefits and no efforts whatever on your part on keeping Springtails in the culture of worms. All the best on your adventure!
@@4me wow thanks, your comment got me into search for feeding springtails to guppies..lols.. Thanks for the idea now i do have some live feeds to my guppies. I used to culture grindal but mites kill them all.

The mold was likely gone to due to springtails eating the leftover cereal flakes. With no more cereal, the mold died due to starvation

@@4me Is the mold that you have, toxic? Not to humans but for springtails and grindal worms

@@4me 👍

Overfeeding is never good. It surely better to give less and feed next time when the food is gone.
I think I know how they always end up in every grindal worms culture. It could of springtails eggs carried on grindal worms
Most likely, there are different ways. Other critters could care them. and Springtails are great explorers too!
@@4me Yes!
i think the springtails purposely make mold to eat it
In my observations grindal worms don't go for mold at all. And neither springtails. I will try to show it in one of my future videos.
how did the 30mins. boiled cocopeat got a springtail? did springtail eat the grindal worm?
Springtails get nicely along with Grindal worms feeding on Grindal worms poop.
@@4me thanks, i have lots of springtails in my wormbin, (african night crawler) not grindal.
