    PLEASE come check out the tour of the EV Lab, which inspired me to make this video. I got an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of UL Solutions' very fancy lab where they were in the middle of testing a 350 kW charger. Sign up for free here: keysig.ht/G3C1x6

    One of the best moves that Keysight made was bringing you aboard Daniel! I'm sure I speak for many who can learn so much from you with a good laugh or two, or three...!

    This should be taught in high school. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing

      Thanks! Getting this together started a lot of conversations in the office, I know I was pretty rusty on this and wasn't alone in that

    Superb summary! Follow up video might be a summary of typical household appliances and any tips for homeowners.

    Nice video Daniel, the math for this AC stuff does my head in, especially when doing it for 3 phase AC... im not a math guy but managed to at least pass this as part of my electrical training LOL.

      It's definitely something I hadn't touched in a while, I had to brush up!

    Nice demo :) What was your circuit, a simple low-pass RC, measuring the current across the resistor while adjusting the frequency past the cutoff (resulting in a phase shift)? Looks like you were running some 100kHz'ish

      I actually just used the WaveGen outputs on this scope since it has two of them built in

    The big problem is that the grid needs to be able to handle the full apparent power. For households thats typically not a problem as we use, relatively, low amounts of power and with typically a power factor close to unity. Industry uses much more power in aboslute terms, so also more apparent power. Also the power factor is often a lot worse from, for example, the huge induction motors they use. This is why such industries have huge capacitor banks to keep the power factor close(r) to 1.

    • @KeysightLabs
      @KeysightLabs  11 місяців тому

      Yep! If industry pulls too much reactive power, the power plant has to push a higher voltage too keep everything running smoothly.

    I like your video, for continuous DC you are right but what about when we use pulsed DC with reactive components?

    • @KeysightLabs
      @KeysightLabs  10 місяців тому +1

      This is for continuous AC. It gets more complicated with pulsed DC, you have to get into step/impulse response and take prior state into account. Basically there's maths.

      @@KeysightLabs It will be very interesting to see, DC pulsed, this subject being exploited by experts like you. Thank you for answering
