As someone with broad shoulders I can understand why you would want to get something tailor-made, sorry you encountered a shop that didn't understand their craft. These clowns aren't tailors! You'll get excellent service and quality when you go to Raja's at BTS Nana or Rajawongse (a bit more expensive - I prefer Raja's). I would have walked away, left the merchandise, and not paid a penny extra aside from the down payment. Cut your losses and walk to a proper tailor. BTW: For a tailor shop in Bangkok, it's a major red flag if someone from the owners (usually they are all family-owned) isn't in the shop himself.
Hmmm. I think it's best to avoid the tailor shops that are across from every large hotel the ones in the cheaper malls (MBK etc.) and *definitely* any that a taxi/tuktuk driver recommends or drops you off at. Given your industry experience, I reckon a trip to Bobae market might be fruitful. Aside from the massive wholesale/retail range, a range of quality standards, at least the few tailors there seem legit. Fun day trip, anyway, best coupled with a morning (and two to three breakfasts) at the nearly Nang Luang market!
Ya, you have to do your research. I went to Tailor on Ten. They do it all in house, most places don’t.
Definitely, lesson learned and I will be doing it again for sure but at a much better place 🙏😃
