In the first second of the video, you can see Rita's father who was battling cancer. Her father died 6 days after she won gold at the Rio Olympics. It's sad to imagine how much pain she went through yet the hardship of her life kept her going and succeeding for the love of her father. RIP Ali Mamun and thank you for believing in your daughter and helping her achieve success that will go down through history ❤
She didn't fail herself, she did'n desopointed the people. She is for all of us an example of effort, hard work, passion, discipline and extrem talented gimnastic woman. I am an American and I go rah rah rah all the time. That being said, we are all humans and some people inspire us no matter what race, color of skin. This girl is awesome, you just see it in certain badass people. Loved this. All should see it.

Me encanta Margarita.
Una vez Irina dijo que ella no era muy de competencia porque todo se complicaba si le decían que debía ganar. Me parece que ella es un ser espiritual y profundo que ha logrado superarse a si misma sin aferrarse mucho a la idea de ganar. Las cansonas comparaciones y subestimación de su trabajo con Yana K (cosa de periodistas y que es absurda porque han tenido un recorrido muy diferente y en realidad creo que no hay punto de comparación; entre otras cosas porque iniciaron a diferentes edades)ha forjado una prolífica carrera deportiva. Por el contrario Yana Kudriavtseva se percibe como el típico deportista vanal que sólo busca alimentar su ego y eso esta bien para ella y su personalidad.

Everyone is so excited about this film and Margarita, but have you ever asked yourself: why the film was about her, when there was a girl who won 13 times world championships and never let anyone win her? The girl that bit every record even at age of 15. Her name is Yana Kudryavtseva, and the film should have been about her. But Viner decided to justify the future planned gold medal of Margarita. She can never let a white girl win a black one (or not 100% Russian) because she is not 100% Russian (by blood) herself. Look up online for the video when she was awfully ignoring Olimpic Champion Yulia Bartsukova, who won Kabaeva. Cause you know who's wife Kabaeva - that's why. Look in Wikipedia what is written about Yulia Bartsukova - that her gold medal was received ONLY because Kabaeva did a mistake. But the same was with Mamun - she is not a honest gold medalist, she have a medal only because Kudruavtseva did a mistake. Or someone told her to do one?....

They were both worthy, life happens
The director wanted to show the struggle of the athletes for success and their interaction with Viner and their coaches under stress. She could only do the video if one them agreed to be constantly filmed, Margarita said yes. I don't know if Yana was asked, but the director didn't want to make a film about someone who is constantly successful, she wanted to document the struggle! Margarita had a real struggle overcoming herself, having made many mistakes. It made for a more relatable documentary not seeing perfection. It is worth reading the directors interview, there are a few on the internet.
As for your 'black' or half russian comment, how very disgusting. I'm actually black, I cannot imagine how far you have to go in your mentality to see Margarita as such, not that it matters if she was black or not! She ultimately won gold for Russia!
And people lose for drops all the time. Even Alina Kabaeva came third in the Sydney games because of her dropping apparatus and she is one of the greatest Rhythmic gymnasts ever!
Really, Alex! You're showing your bias. After seeing the movie, it's amazing Rita competed so well with all the vitriol she experienced leading up to Rio. She seized the moment probably out of anger and spite. Yana may have been a bit overconfident as the favorite to win, hence the mistake. What's sad is the disappointment that the majority of athletes experience after years of toiling in a sport where the pinnacle of achievement is olympic gold. It's only awarded to one (ties are rare) and it basically comes down to who performs best in that moment. There have been many top athletes across many sports who experienced disaster at the Olympics but had won nearly every competition prior to that event. On the other hand, many with lackluster results before had their best and winning performance at the Olympics. It's the ups and downs in the lives of imperfect creatures.
Rita was amazing the day she won the gold medal. It was important who capitalized the timing and minimised the error. Yana played well, she did the tactical mistake and obviously the day wasn't for her.
